Week 1, let's start.

Hey everyone. This whole idea of weight loss has been a big factor in my life. Since I got out of high school I made the decision to start. It has been two years since I chose to make that decision and man it's been so on and off. Sometimes I go through a week of eating right and then I fall off. Sometimes it is just a day. Mind you, this cycle has been going on for 1-2 years. Yeah. Pretty bad. So now I've made the decision to just ease into it, which was not what I planned to do at first. I cut my calories a bit too short, in a small interval of time, and I think that's where the mistake was. So instead, I'm going to make the effort of small and easy changes. Here's my plan:

Week 1 (Dec 4 - Dec 11) - 2400 calories
Week 2 (Dec 12 - 19) - 2300 calories
Week 3 (Dec 20 - 27) - 2200 calories
Week 4 (Dec 27 - Jan 3) - 2100 calories
... and the all the way to 1500-1600 calories a day (stopping there)

Mind you, 1500-1600 calories was my goal per day when I started. To others that may seem quite attainable, but for me, not so much. I'm sick of tired of this constant cycle of success and failure. So, hopefully this will help me. So if there's anything that you can learn from my mistakes, don't do what I did and start off at a decently low calorie intake. Well, for me at least, it did not work, so if it is not working for you maybe try this method.

So yeah let's cut the negatives and bring in some positive results from these past two years!
1. I have already cut off all drinks other than water and black coffee in the morning (sometimes). I haven't had a pop in at least a year. Seriously aha, I don't even remember when I drank
anything but water or black coffee.
2. Leaving high school I was 205 pounds at 5'5 (DAMN), I am now 176 pounds at 5'6.
3. Learned so much about weight loss and diet this past few years. I have implanted in my head that it all boils down to how much you eat (CICO). Calorie deficit = weight loss, and it is a simple as that. Not diet pills, special liquid diets, no carb diets. Those are out the window. Though, for other people those diets may work, but for me, nope. I'll stick to counting my calories daily, which again is another positive that I have gotten from these past 1-2 years.

Well, that's my plan so far. I don't expect to lose too much for the first month as I'm only at a 100-400 calorie deficit per day in the span of 1 month. Maybe I'll lose a pound or two, only time will tell. But yeah, I hope this plan will work. I feel that it is easier than what I tried to accomplish, and will build those small habits/goals that will keep me going. It's kind of funny thinking that the notion of small, easy, attainable goals is finally drilled into my head after 1 and a half year of failure. Well, at least I'm starting now.

Oh and exercise?
Let me get my diet straightened out first. Dieting and pushing myself physically is not fun, especially when battling the stresses of school comes into play. Maybe I'll consider this down the road when I would like to gain muscle/look cut.

Thanks!

First week is always the hardest, if you can just be as positive as you sound here, I'm sure you're going to kick the rest of the weight's ass! I will be with you on this journey, bud, good luck and always remain positive. Mental aspect is just as important as anything else!

Yeah man, keeping a positive mind is just as important. Not going to lie though, its been tough trying to stay positive when I'm constantly going up and down with my diet. But, I haven't given up yet so that's one thing! :)

Good luck to you too!

Well done Systane! It's such a big commitment to take control of your health and it's great that you realise how important that is. As Dudeitstime mentioned it will be tricky at first but it's all about breaking those old food habits and replacing them with healthier ones.

This does take time and consistency. I think it's great that you have goals in place and have a time frame to achieve them. Even though exercise does help with our weight goals, as I've learnt, what we are putting in our mouths is what's affecting us the most.

Best of luck to you and feel free to continue to reach out for support and encouragement!

Hi systane & a great big welcome to the forum. It sounds like you are planning on being successful, so you should be. We are capable of doing so much more than we think we can. Make sure you give yourself credit every time you make a good choice. Every time you choose something healthy over something that's not, take the time to tell yourself so. Good habits & good choices eventually build up to become new habits. When you start losing weight regularly you will start feeling like doing some exercise. Once again take it slowly. There's no hurry. It can be something small, like taking the stairs, instead of the elevator, even if only the last floor or 2, or parking a little further away, or getting off the bus a stop earlier. I think you sound like you are going to win at this & I look forward to sharing your progress. We are in this together & there are some lovely people here in the WLF forum, who will help support you along the way. Cheers, Cate.

Wow, thanks for the words of encouragement. Some good tips too! I will definitely acknowledge whenever something positive happens as I never thought of doing that. I always kinda focused on how much I went over my calorie limits. Thanks for the post.

You're welcome. I think most of us are inclined to be harder on ourselves than we deserve. Focusing on the positive things you do, rather than the negative, makes you feel better about yourself. Cheers, Cate.

Thanks, and so far so good. I haven't gone over my 2400 calorie limit in the past few days. And yeah, I didn't realize how much I lost coming from 205. I was so focused on the negatives :(. Anyways, thanks for the reply Oaks.

I went to the Optometrist yesterday & came home with some Systane eye drops instead of new glasses! :D

Week 1 - Completed

Hey everyone. Everything is going pretty well so far with the diet. I am now hovering at around 174-175 pounds, which is 1-2 pound decrease from yesterday. Surprisingly, I was able to get through the week, staying within my calorie limit of 2400. So now I'm heading off to 2300 calories/day, which shouldn't be to bad. Pretty happy with the results so far, and I already feel my collar bones becoming more defined. Also, I had to go a bit tighter than last week on my belt so I'm quite sure I'm losing a bit of fat. Pretty crazy how only a 100 calorie deficit made a difference. I think it's because my body was so used to my daily 3000+ calorie diet before I started. Idk, I'm not a doctor. If anyone knows the reason for that, please reply! :)

Well that's it for now. Let's hope for even better results next week. 2300 calories, let's go.

That's where I got the name. When I made this account, and had to choose the username I just looked around my room, and saw the eye drops I used. Pretty lame lol.

It's so hard coming up with a username that no-one has already taken! Jastin's tips are good ones & I think you have already taken them on. Keep up the good work systane :)

Week 2 - Completed
Hey guys, I'm still hovering around 174-175. No real changes, just 100 less calories that the week before. I did cheat a little bit I think on Sunday if I remember, but other than that the diet has been going well! I'm thinking of adding unsweetened, decaffeinated tea to my diet. Can't wait to get to lower calorie limits so I can start losing a bit quicker haha. But slow and steady wins the race, and I'm sticking to the plan. Also, the belt size is shrinking! I still can't believe it, I went down another hole from last week. Crazy stuff... I also added a bit of callisthenics, but nothing too crazy. See ya guys next week!

Yay for people making reasonable plans and taking the healthy approach to weight loss! You´re doing awesome, isn´t belt size shrinkage the best feeling?
Good luck going forward, LaMa.

It's weird. Like, I'm making very small changes to my calorie limit, and already my waist is shrinking. Sticking to this diet is so much easier and wish that I started this earlier lol. Crazy stuff eh?
