Wayne's "Couch to 5K" Journey

I feel better today :)

I went to the doctor last night and they gave me several antibiotics to help my foot... and guess what - they are working! I might not have to go to the ER this time; and it looks like I will be able to run tomorrow. YAY

Now I just need to find a place to run. My normal place is too hilly... the track is too flat. Maybe I'm just too picky!

I think tomorrow I am going to try my normal place and see how I do with the inclines. *fingers crossed*

I don't know what it is lately - maybe a mid-program crisis?

This morning I had to FORCE myself to go run. I have never had to force myself before... I was tired and just couldn't get out of bed.

I made it through the first 3 minute run just fine... and then about 1/2 way through the 5 minute run my legs cramped so bad I had to stop. I could not push through the pain this time. I walked for about 1 minute, and then ran until the end of the interval. But then when the next interval started, I couldn't. My heart wasn't in it today... my legs hurt... my knees hurt. ugh.

I feel disappointed in myself. I ended up walking the entire 2 miles... so at least I did get some exercise in.

Corrective action plan: Take today, Sunday, and Monday to stretch and ice my legs. Start week 5 on Tuesday (three 5 minute intervals) and see how it goes. If I'm unable to complete the workout I will do the week 4 schedule on Thusday and Saturday... then try week 5 again.

So, Tuesday my legs were in good condition... I had a great run! Then on Thursday my legs were kinda sore and my run sucked... but I finished. Today my legs hurt so bad that I couldn't finish.

Looks like I have some research to do on leg cramps and muscles.

Hey there.

Please don't get discouraged by this. You obviously need to rest your legs and give you foot time to heal. I have had this same problem this week because of the shin splints. I don't want to overdo it cuz then it will cause even more problems. So, I have been doing the exercise bike & swimming so I can still get in my cardio.

I have been reading a lot of runners world magazines, and one of the main things was that if you have an injury that you need to make sure and rest it, but you can still do other things to cross train.

Congrats on fitting into that shirt! That is awesome. You can do this. Don't give up! Just rest until you're feeling better and then you can hit it hard with enthusium again.

I'm officially not running for the rest of this week. It was pouring down rain yesterday and I just decided to wait until I finish my antibiotics before I start back (next Tuesday).

I was dog sitting again this morning, which meant I was able to weigh myself... I am down another 3 pounds. YAY! Food is going very well and I feel anxious to start back on my running program. I am going to try to jump into week 5... we'll see how it goes. Hopefully, I will be back to my normal energetic self!

I haven't had a high calorie day in about 2 weeks now... and I can definitely tell. I have been having some major cravings lately... like MEXICAN! We are going to a pizza place on Friday and I can't wait... it is supposed to be VERY good. I think it is a much deserved cheat day :)

Well, it's been nearly 5 months since my last post. I sadly have to report that I have not done well since this time. I still don't have a scale, so I'm not sure if I've gained all of the weight back, but I'm pretty sure I have... if not more.

Something has to change. I don't know what, but something does. I've been saying (to myself) for the last few weeks that I am going to start back on Jan. 1st. But, I've recently decided, why wait? I am officially going to buy a scale tomorrow. I can't stay motivated if I don't SEE progress. I just have to trust myself not to obsess over the numbers.

I will probably start a new thread for my journal - but, I wanted to let everyone know that I'M BAAACCCKKKK!

Challenges will be kept general and flexible. I'll keep them like the first one where you can individually tailor it to you. I'm a university student living abroad and I know what it's like to have no money. There will be possibilities to do this however you want. I've chosen pilates. Making the small investment of ordering a video but I know you can find videos on youtube, I found coretraining videos there that I use. And there is always jogging!
For those of you that are new. Join! Ask questions, read logs. There is no right or wrong way to do it. The more you log the more you ask questions the more feedback you will get and the more you will reflect on your choices. Even if you just write a note about how you are feeling about your diet or exercise you are logging. The biggest challenge for most people is getting past their own excuses. I'm still overcoming this, I'm guessing we all battle with our own mental limitations and excuses. The more you share and the more open you are to criticism the fewer excuses you will find. Look for small groups or browse through member profiles and invite people to join. Or if you have friends invite them to join PT and start your own. PT is really just a great toolbox to share your experiences and to reflect back on your journey. Lastly, Welcome!
