Water

Can someone tell me how much water am i supposed to be drinking a day?
i am 5'9" 230lbs, and have a physical job. I used to drink 6-8 cans a day
of pop (minimum) but i havent had pop in the last 3 weeks. And i feel
a lot better already. but i drink about 1.5L-2L water a day, but i am still
very thirsty always and i figured this was just cause i drink so much pop, but im
not too sure now why. how much water a day is too much? and just a
guess, how long does it take to rehydrate a body? (again, tons of pop, rarely any water till 3 weeks ago)

now for the gross questions, I always heard after you start drinking a lot of water, you will have to go to the bathroom more often, but i still have to go every 20-30 minutes, sometime extremely badly and cant hold it--IT SUCKS

any advise is appreciated...

keep drinking water so that your urine is almost clear.

Dont worry about too much, you wont drink enough for it to be clinical.

While drinking a lot of water will cause you to have to urinate, if you are still thirsty even when you are drinking so much that you have to urinate every 20-30 minutes, you may want to see a doctor. Those symptoms could mean diabetes.

7 cans of pop is about 2.4 litres, isn't it? Did you have to urinate as frequently before you replaced the pop with water?

i didnt go nearly as much as i do now..

my dad and my dads uncle and my cousin have diabetes, so i will definetly go in and get a blood test.

thanks for the replies, i hope to hear what you think about the pop vs water bathroom differences, its got me curious to why this would be different.

In what time frame are you drinking this water? It sounds like you're drinking water rather frequently. Unlike food, your body has no method of storing excess water. This is a double edged sword. On one hand, if you drink water throughout the day, you'll be hydrated. But drinking water all at once, and you'll just end up going to the bathroom a lot and have to drink more water later.

i start work at 7 30 am, and work till about 7 pm on average, and i drink at least 1.5L-2L water while at work, plus an additional .5-1L water in the evenings and before work. is this enough?

Try a BANa

Try drinking enhanced water, such as BANa. This drink is formulated off of a saline IV and prevents or cures dehydration. It's all natural, so it truly is just enhanced water. It does have a higher sodium content than other sports drinks, however it does not have any calories or sugar. The sodium will help keep you hydrated (bc it's mixed with water rather than in food, which gives people the misconception that it will DEhydrate you) bc it will retain any water you consume...and hopefully cut back on your bathroom breaks:)

The product is new and is only available online, so search for "bana drink" or "bana serious rehydration" and the website should come up.

Everyone keeps saying how important water is. i know i should be drinking enough water, but how much is too much?

If I drink too much i tend to not get hungry and have difficulty eating.

What to Do What to Do?

I think what you drink varies very much from person to person, depending on your lifestyle, where you spend your time, where you life, what you eat....the going suggested amount is 1.5-2 liters a day depending on who you ask and then 500mls for every hour of aerobic/cardio you do.

I have a fairly 'normal' lifestyle, in a chair most of the day and use public transport for about 2-3 hours a day, standing for about 50% of that. I spend about an hour to two hours a day walking in total.
Then there is the gym 5-6 days a week, 2 hours a shot, cardio is 9-12 hours a week and then cool down and stretching the rest of the time.

So I live, travel, work and workout in airconditioned environments all day every day, I also have quite a few nasal problems that leave me drinking through my mouth rather then my nose and so I drink alot!

I get through about 1 liter of drinks in the day through tea, water at my desk or a can of diet pepsi (if you can count that!) then at the gym I get through 1.5 to 2 liters of water, then I get home and drink another 2L as I get so hungry and I am trying to lose weight! (its not going down but I don't want it going up so the last 2L is staying put!)

So I get through about 4-5L of drink a day, most of which is plain water. I don't pee very much more then anyone else to be honest, aside from the early part of the day when everything just seems to go straight through me! I think the environment I am in makes a difference and really means I need to drink as much.
