Water in my ear

That's no advice I would reccomend Dallen. Simply allowing warm water to run in will probably make it worse.

What's your reason for being aboslutely against putting oil in you ear? That's basically what you get when you buy ear things from the pharmacy, it helps soften the wax up which is especially important when using a syringe to pump out the wax.

I'd reccomend putting warm olive oil in your ear and seal it up so it doesn't escape the ear canal, then leave it overnight. You might find the wax has come out in that period, and if not, it will be eaiser at least for the syringe to get all the softened wax out.

The danger is perforation of the ear drum. If you have a hole in there previously, and you put in oil or something else, it can cause illness, hearing loss, etc. Not only that, an untrained person putting things besides water into his/her ear can cause perforation of the ear drum which includes hearing loss, infection, etc.

Unless you've been trained, only use warm water. Besides, it should be gone by now.

Anything in your ear can be dislodged by simply moving your jaw or using warm water while you shower. Of course, don't blast water in there or directly put your ear into the path of a strong current. Simply tilt your head enough to allow the water to run in and it'll work its course.

No, but I'm not going to recommend shoving things into one ear or dumping fluid into one's ear that just doesn't belong. As a matter of fact, since I have hearing problems and wear a hearing aid, I do see one every once in a while and he always says not to put anything into my ear and when I asked about ear wax or things stuck because of hearing aids tend to push ear wax back down, he said to use water, not q-tips, shoving oil into your ear, or sticking candles into your ear. Just plain old water.

Well firstly, the OP doesn't have a hole nor in the past (which is irrellevent anway because it heals). Putting warm water in won't do anything, the wax is predomitely hydrophobic so unless you use a syringe with warm water don't expect anything. There's nothing wrong with putting olive oil in the ear, why do you suggest that will cause an infection? The chemicals you buy from the pharmacy used for blockd ears is basically the same substance.

Every doctor in the world says to never use q-tips in your ear, but I clean my ears out with them every day after I shower. I've never had any problems from it...maybe because I'm awesome.

It's alright around the ear. It's putting it into the ear hole that's dangerous.

I'm not quite sure why your doctor would recommend putting chemical into your ear when warm water works just as well, if not better. If it's that terrible with wax buildup, you should go see a doctor. Excessive ear cleaning tend to cause natural ear wax not to build up which can cause ear infection and cause ear wax to be pushed down into the ear.

I believe a case study indicates that over 80% of hearing loss is due to the fact that ear wax is built up inside of the ear due to excessive cleaning or a natural problem that happens everyonce in a while.

Maybe you haven't really experienced a full blown blocked ear. Having been an avid surfer for a while, I've had a few pretty bad experiences with blocked ears - once only being able to hear no more than say 10% either ear. It's safe to say from my experience that water alone does jack *****, even made it worse!

So in conclusion; sorry for the ramble, try leaving warm olive oil in the ear canal overnight an if it hasn't solved the problem, at least when you visit the doctor to syringe it out, it will all be softened up so that there won't be any stubborn wax that won't budge.
