was undereating...when will i see results?

Apparently I was undereating for the amount of cardio and weight trainig that I was doing. Therefore, I have plateau-ed. I have been gradualling increasing my calories by about 200-300 for a couple weeks and am closer to my goal (i am currently eating 1700 cals/day where i was told i should eat 1900-2000 cals/day and previously i was only eating 1500 cals/day).

How long does it take for the body to realize that these changes have been made and to start losing again?

Agree with Stingo. Just keep following the best and most effective (safe) program available. Eat the correct amount of calories, strength training and do cardio properly and rest accordingly :)

If after a few weeks nothing is changing then tweak something more.

I like your systematic approach to caloric increase.

What does your weight and current activity look like? These are key factors.

With that said, 2 weeks at your personal maintanence level should do the trick and restore hormones, boost metabolism, etc.

i am 5 5'', 30 yr old female and weigh 140 (started out at 160). i'd LIKE to get down to about 130 and keep a muscular build. I have this layer of fat that is preventing to see the muscles that i have been working hard to grow. I am currenlty eating about 1700-1800 cals/day (1 1/2 weeks now) and supposedly should go up to 1900??

activity is cardio 6x/week (either running 5 miles hills, elliptical intervals or HIIT for 20-30 minutes, high aerobic step class) and 3x week weight training fullbody but truthfully focusing more on upper and core as i cant stand lunges..but i do do squats...(dumbbells, swissball, resistance band as i have no gym membership) and pilates.

what do you think?

Hey there!

I know how you feel - I was stuck on a flatline for 3 months, trying all kinds of changes to my diet and killing myself during workouts, but still wasn't seeing anything.

Finally, after exploring several options (eating more/less) and different foods, I figured out how to break through it. Someting caught my eye while reading through the South Beach diet, about eating high fiber foods. I found a great high-fiber cereal (plus swimming twice a week) and immediately started dropping the weight again. The concept was that the body has to work harder to break down the fiber, and it worked great for me. :)

That doesn't mean it would work for you (or others), but it's just an example of 'testing' out different solutions. It will take time, but eventually you'll figure out what will trigger your body out of its dormant stage.

Good luck!

i just joined a gym. maybe that will help w/ 'changing it up'.

geesh. thanks for your response.

now i just wonder - do i focus on more cardio or more strength training...i think more weights, less longer cardio sessions but i'm not sure...

isnt it true that if i did a ton of cardio, i would lose weight but it may not be fat??
