WARNING: Brand new...still crinkly!

Hello all,

I am a 25 y/o female and I've never posted on a forum before so this feels a little strange. I can hear my mom's voice in my head reminding me about "not talking to strangers" but I guess we live in a different age now. Anyway...I'm almost 5' 8" and about 210 lbs. I've already lost about 20 lbs through diet alone but my goal in to get down to about 160ish lbs, which would put my BMI on the high end of "normal." I"m aware of the debate over the BMI scale so save your breath. I did do Weight Watchers for a minute but I found the points system too confusing since I'm used to counting old fashioned calories. I'm really just trying to follow a healthy diet (i.e. no pop, fewer processed foods overall, more "real" foods like fresh produce and whole grains). I've noticed that I physically feel better having dropped some weight and improved my diet (which was actually fairly healthy before), but I'm sort of in a motivational slump right now. I don't have a date set for my weight loss goal, I'm not losing in time for a graduation or wedding. I would really just like to reach my ideal weight and be healthier. Any advice would be welcome and like I said I'm new, so be nice!

Peace peeps!:coolgleamA:

I think what would be helpful is to set some goals for yourself and reward yourself at the end of it!

Its hard to get anywhere in life If you have no goals!

good on you for making the change! welcome to the forums, join in the fun and meet some like minded people :)

Everyone here has their own tips or tricks on what they did that helped them lose the weight, the thing though is to try what sounds like it'll work for you, and if it doesn't, then try something else. Following someone else's diet plan can be difficult, which is why I had to make up my own. What's helped me the most is meal planning. I plan out all my meals for the entire week and leave about 300 extra calories per day in case I estimate too low, or decide on a snack some time during the day. That way if I DO have a snack, even if I feel guilty about it, I stay under my calories.

Cutting out the processed food and the pop made eating right so much easier for me, though it made counting calories a little harder. But it was totally worth it.

Good luck!

Yeah , you need to check what others are doing and generally work out what works best for you.
I dont have a long term goal really either, other than a loose one of where i want to get to, but i'm happy to take my time and get there when i get there. I found dropping processed food hard but worthy diet option for me. I pretty much eat meat and vegetables, eggs, low fat yoghurt, nuts and fruit.
I find it helps me control my cravings, though at times it can be hard to stick to. I always carry a tin of tuna and a protein bar in my purse for emergancies :)

It's cool that you're able to follow a system of better habits and overall better foods, as opposed to a specific system.
I'm sorry that the Weight Watcher's plan didn't work out for you. I'd swear by it any day of the week, and am the opposite of you in that I feel counting calories is more confusing than just using my daily points.

Best of luck to you; welcome to the boards.
