Before I got married last year, I weighted 158 lbs. (I'm 5'7".) Now I'm 179 lbs. Being married has definitely sucked away some of the free time that I used to have to workout, but now I don't have a choice anymore. I need to get in shape for my fitness test that is coming up soon. The test consists of a 1 1/2 mile run, pushups, situps, and a waist measurement. The biggest chunk of points comes from the run time and the waist measurement. Last year, my waist was 33". When I had my waist measured a week ago, it measured 36", but I'm not sure if this is correct since the guy that taped me has never done it before and didn't even ask me to lift my shirt up.
If I could lose two inches off my waist, that would boost my score considerably. I've heard that every 5 lbs of fat you lose is one dress size. Is this true? Should my goal be losing 20lbs, or two inches...or will one cover the other? Last week I did a ton of running and cardio mixed with some pushups and situps and cut out all sugars and drank only water. At the end of the week, I lost one pound. Am I doing something wrong?
