Hey. I'm an 18 year old female who is roughly probably 220 lbs right now. I'm 5'3 and definitely have a pear shape body. My goal weight in 2 years is maybe around 125 lbs. However, I've read about loose skin after such a big weight loss... I guess I have good genetics and I'm young but am I sill in danger? there is no way I can afford surgery...

I've become overweight the past 2 years as I gradually gained weight back after having snapped and gave up. (after I lost a good amount of weight and was pretty thin) and well..here I am now as depression kicked in the past 3 years.

Most of my weight is in my thighs and butt which I'm guessing are the danger areas for this. But do I really have anything to worry about? any stories would be appreciated. thanks.

There is a chance that you will have loose skin for a while, yes. There is also a very good chance that it will tighten up with time.

There are a lot of factors that influence how severe the 'loose skin' issues might be. Age being one. You're still young, your skin is elastic and has the ability to bounce back.

It also depends on how long you've been overweight, and how severely. Both things seem not too bad for you, so again, good chance that your skin will regenerate and heal itself.

There are things you can do to help your skin. Losing weight gradually is one - it gives the skin time to recover, and 'shrink as you go', so to speak.

Make sure that you're always hydrated - plenty of water helps your skin to repair itself.

Some sort of moisturiser - some people swear on body oils, others tell you to use cocoa butter or stuff like that, personally, I don't think it really matters. Any kind of lotion will do, it's actually more the massage you give your skin while rubbing the stuff in as opposed to the actual product. In other words, be good to your skin.

Something else you need is patience. Skin won't go back to the way it was over night. It can take a long time.

But look at it that way, would you rather stay how you are, feeling depressed and unhappy about your weight (not to mention risking health problems because of your weight), or deal with a bit of loose skin which can easily be covered by clothes? I know what I would pick.

Don't let the thought of loose skin put you off losing weight. You probably don't even have a lot to worry about in that department anyway. :)

hey you!

i think you have a really good chance that your skin bounces back.
your biggest advantage is defo your age!!! i m 29...its not nearly as easy (esp that i yo-yod a lot)
i did an intensive research on skin - i could get a phd :) (as it s my biggest scare - i m obsessed)
unfortunatelly i cant paste any links for you here.
but i think there are few basic rules you should follow:

-- lose weight gradually - dont crash diet
-- drink at least 2 l of water a day
-- try to eat plenty of vegetables/fruits - half of it raw (salads)
(fruits and veg esp good for skin: spinach, nuts, everything that contains Vitamin C, oily fish, carrot, avocado)
-- try to avoid processed food
-- use mosturizer - or if you can: creams esp for weight loss
-- exercize - do weight training
-- try to eat small amounts of protein with most of your meals (e.g feta cheese, fish, grilled chicken, egg, quinoa)

Good luck!!!

i`m only a bit worried about loose skin, u can lose alot of weight before loose skin becomes a problem so i suggest you lose as much as you can untill its a problem if atall it is a problem.

Here are 5 no-nonsense ideas for fast, healthy weight reduction :
1) Drink 8-10 glasses of water every day – this helps flush your body of impurities and fat. It is possible to also substitute a couple of glasses of water for green or natural tea.
2) Break up your meals into 5 or 6 more compact ones – this may help speed up your metabolic process and keep you from acquiring also hungry in in between meals.
three) Enhance your fruit and vegetable intake – these are full of nutritional vitamins.
4) Lower your extra fat consumption – try for no much more than 20 grams daily.
five) Exercise for 30 minutes each day – take a walk, or play a game together with your kids. Just get transferring.

Most of my weight is in my thighs and butt which I'm guessing are the danger areas for this.

Actually these are NO danger area. Fat in butt and thighs is fine.
The bad fat is stomach fat. For a woman, there is a increased risk of heart disease if your waistline is more than 35 inches.
