Video Game Work Out

Whoever posted the best workout video post made me think to post this new thread. Instead of working out using workout videos, you can actually work out with video games. I love how video games have evolved into actually moving while you play.

The best 2 workout games are called "dance dance" which you can play on the playstation system, and the sports game that comes with the new nintendo wee.

Dance dance, is a dance sequence game where you can chose certain levels of dance, and try to match the dance patterns with your feet on a dance board. It is a lot of fun, and it can be an intense workout.

The sports game on the nintendo wee gets you to do the motions as if you were actually playing the sport. They have virtual boxing, bowling, golf, baseball, and my favorite which is tennis, and you actually do the movements and use all the muscles in your body as if you were playing the sport - but instead you're doing it in your own living room.

Anyways, hope this helps those that are video game addicts, those that like to workout at home, or those that are just wanting to try something new.

Errr actually, the game you're talking about is called Dance Dance Revolution, DDR for short. It's actually helped me a lot with weight loss, anybody who's the slightest bit coordinated can do it. It's got several different levels of difficulty, and tons of music on it from just about every genre.

The Wii, I'm not so sure about. It looks like you'd have to have a LOT of coordination to play it and play it well, along with a lot of patience.

I love DDR! I own 3 games. I have also played the Nintendo Wii and think it's an awesome workout. It's not as hard as it seems.

There is an XBOX workout and stretch "video game" as well. It's really interesting and you put your stats in the game and watch/mimic what "you" are doing on the television. It also increases the number of reps and time as you progress through the game. It keeps up with how often you make time for exercise using it as well. It might be worth a shot for those of you with the regular old XBOX. I'm not sure if it's on the 360 as well.

I have a friend who also uses they Eye Toy for the Playstation 2, and a particular game that's just for workouts (can't remember what it's called though). It uses the Eye Toy (basically just a webcam) and gives you tips on your form and can tell when you're slowing up and not really giving it your all ;)

Kind of an interesting idea.

Is the game your thinking of called Kinetic?

I have an Eye Toy for Playstation 2 and own a few of the Eye Toy games - Eye Toy Groove, Operation Spy, and Antigrav. I've had tons of fun with it in the past and still have tons of fun with it now. I bought the Eye Toy with a game called Play 2. Play 2 goes along the same lines as Play on the Nintendo Wii. It is a blast to play! The games are along the same line as the Nintendo Wii Play game too. The game has boxing, ping pong, and about 20 other different games.

The best workout I've had with the Eye Toy was playing AntiGrav. You have to move every part of your body while playing that game.

I don't own Kinetic, but I had thought of buying it before. I never did.

Yeah, Kinetic sounds familiar, that might have been the one she told me about :) My playstation is at the tv at the foot of the bed so we don't have to buy a second DVD player, so I won't be getting much of a workout with it ;)

lol, I know all about Dance Dance Revolution.. my brother went to the Nationals and came 6th, then got invited to goto the worlds in las vegas; however, he couldn't afford the trip there.

i love ddr! i do it pretty much every day now. you can put it on workout mode, and set a calorie goal, so then you can always know how much you've burned! and it is a lot of fun.

Video Games can help you lose weight

I don't know if any of you have ever tried this, but it really helped me in losing weight. I would play "traditional" games...not really "workout" games on my playstation while walking on a treadmill. All I did was have my playstation, T.V. and treadmill all in the same general vicinity. I enjoy playing Madden and I would play through a couple games and it wouldn't even feel like I had walked 3-4 miles but I did. It's a good way to actively relax because when I workout like walking or such, my mind is usually the first thing to get tired.

I remember reading in the news last year that some if the middle schools across the country were getting DDR machines for the kids to use in gym class. They figured the best way to get kids to work out was to get the kids doing something that they were already doing afterschool. I haven't seen anything on it recently but I thought it was a great idea!
