Very intense program - questions.

Hello. I just found this sight, and it looks fairly reliable, so I will go ahead and ask some questions I have been thinking about. Hopefully these aren't very standard newbie questions and haven't been asked too recently.

First of all, I am on a very intensive fat-burning program. I eat 6ish small meals a day, with the biggest meal coming at dinner before weight-training and evening cardio. I am taking both Xenadrine and Clen at the moment. I'm not really looking for help with my diet.

I weigh 230lbs and have a very long history of sports and exercise. I am trying to lose about 15-20lbs of fat, and quickly; I have a tendency to revert to a standard lifting-only schedule if I do not see progress fast enough, and I rarely stick to a weight-loss program long enough to lose the amount of weight I want.

My big question is with cardio. I have a stair-stepper in my house, and am currently doing 2x 60 minute sessions every day, one first thing in the morning before a meal and one an hour or two before bed. I also lift about 5 times a week. So the question is, am I doing the maximum amount of cardio possible? I would be willing to ramp it up to maybe 90 minutes twice a day, if I thought it would help. I really don't want to lose too much muscle, but fat loss is still the top priority.

So is 2x 60 mins/day too much, or could I step it up to 75-90 or possibly add a 2-3 mile run in the afternoon? What is the theoretical limit to how much cardio one should do every day? I don't want to make my body so used to it that I stop burning fat, or something strange like that.

Thanks for your time.

Whoa! Slow down :)

Unless you are training for a triathalon or are an athlete... then you are over doing it big time.

You are not doing your body any good and you are probably destroying your metabolism as you read this. Sorry if this sounds harsh. I am writing in with a "wow, I cant believe this person works out so much" mentality. Im just a bit astonished.

Let me start at the beginning... I am not the person to talk to regarding Xenadrine and Clen. In fact I was just interviewed about my thoughts on Xenical and the new drug coming out, orlistat. I am against them. But I will not ramble to you. It's your choice.

Working out for more than an hour a day is too much. You did not mention what sort of strength training routine you have going for you. For example: on Monday I do 3 sets of 8 reps for biceps and triceps...

So I cannot provide any assistance there. I can say the 2 sixty minute cardio sessions per day plus strength training is A LOT. I sure hope you are eating enough calories to sustain your size and all that activity. If not... you are eating your own muscle and killing the metabolism.

I suspect that you are thinking "more is better" but that is simply not true. If you want fast results... I have ony a few words for you... you will always be disappointed with the eventual outcome.

What do I mean by that? Sure all this working out and taking Xenical and Clen may work right now. It may drop your weight. But what happens when you stop all this working out or taking these drugs? You GAIN fat. Not muscle. FAT.

Then you are right back where you are today. Wanting to find the best way to lose fat QUICKLY. It's a circle. A viscious one. What's wrong with learning to eat healthy and following a proper workout routine?

If you are unsure how to do that, there are plenty of posts on this board where many fitness enthusiasts speak their minds. You can also check out tons of websites dealing with proper fitness.
