Urgently Required Diet Help

I am 5ft 8, weight 145 and want to get down to about 135 for the summer. I am 17 years old and female. Please don't tell me dieting at this weight or age is unnecessary- I just want some help :)
My new diet is:
Breakfast: Glass of Fruit Juice, Fruit and Fibre cereal with semi skimmed milk
Lunch: Cream crackers, Apple
Dinner: Vegetable Soup
I don't do much exercise but I don't sit on my bum all day either, I walk round college and cycle about a mile a day at a really gentle pace. I can only eat 3 meals a day, and I can't change lunch as thats the healthiest it gets out of cafeteria food.
Basically I would really appreciate any help on the suitability of my diet and how fast I will be able to lose the weight. How much will I have lost in 4 weeks time?
Thanks ever so much,
Emily

I really think you'll lose weight at that meal plan, but do you think you'll have enough energy? I'm not into the high protein diet, but I'm wondering if you're eating enough protein. Can you add a couple healthy snacks and eat them in class?

You're breakfast is probably fine. My husband lost 20 pounds by adding fiber and avoiding his snack machine at work.

Your goal should be to lose 2 pounds per week. I don't know how much weight you'll lose in 4 weeks on this diet, but I know I would never be able to stick to such a diet. I'd be famished around lunch time! Are you a vegetarian and is this diet close to what you usually eat?

I am a vegetarian and normally have the same breakfast and a healthy dinner (rice dishes, vegetable dishes) but I used to eat hot food at lunch and the hot food offered in the canteen at my college is high in salt and really not very nutritious. So its only the lunch that is really different. I also used to snack a lot, not during the day but when I got home I would probably have some biscuits, a sandwich, some crisps and a couple of yoghurts other than dinner!

You are definately eating way to many carbs at breatfast. Cut out the fruit juice (which is often worse than pop), try low fat milk or water, or even coffee if you really want the kick in the morning. Eat eggs or whole wheat toast with peanut butter, it will stay with you and will not spike your insulin the way cereal will. Try and incorporate some snacks in between so you do not slow down your metabolism. Pick anything that is low in fat and carbs.

Well, emz, if you're prepared to eat a disgusting, low-energy diet like that, I've got something better for you.

Breakfast: a cup of oatmeal, mixed with a half-cup of low or non-fat cottage cheese.

Lunch: Stay away from those crackers!! Find something at the cafeteria that's healthy, something with some fat, Like a peanut butter sandwich if you can get one, preferably. The apples alright, but not by itself. If not, get some sort of good whole grain going. Limiting yourself to cafeteria food will hurt your diet, but cream crackers, the healthiest thing in a cafeteria? I don't believe that. Eat some vegetables and dip,or something. Get some protein.

Dinner: Vegetable soup? Are you insane? You'll die. I'm a vegetarian, too, but I get over 250 g of protein a day, most of it complete. Of course, I'm a bit of a fitness freak,so I need it, but your diet has no protein in it at all. Get a significant source of protein at every meal, since you're only eating 3. I recommend having some good, quality bread, like dempster's wholegrains (I'm not advertising,it's just good stuff, nutritionally balanced, any whole grain bread will do), and i recommend you eat some imitation meat, like veggie burgers and veggie dogs. Seriously, stuff your face with them. As much as will fit is good, limit the bread. Go easy on the garnish.

Some ideas:

*keep your total calories between 1200-1500. No lower, no higher.

*drink lots of water. I mean lots. Many litres. Many meaning more than 3!

*resist the urge to snack, but if you MUST, have something like peanut butter mixed with cottage cheese later in the evening, and dont go overboard

*lastly, get motivated. Tell people you're on a diet, and have them harass you into sticking to it. Harass yourself. Remove all the food from your house that isn't something you should be eating on your diet. Again,I seriously recommend packing your own lunch. Something healthy, not "im an american" healthy, actually healthy. I have a recommendation that's easy to make, tasty, and healthy. Get some whole durum wheat semolina (that's whole wheat cous-cous,often available in a package), cook it in some vegetable broth (i recommend mccormick's), takes bout 5 minutes, you've got your lunch. I find it tastier than most vegetarian foods. (I used to be a total carnivore, to tell you the truth, there are few vegetarian foods I don't find disgusting, heh heh)

If you do things right, you can lose the weight you want to lose in about a month to six weeks time....quicker than that and you're not getting enough calories, unhealthy. Happy dieting. :D

I hope I've been of some help. Feel free to give us more info and ask questions. I enjoy answering them.
