unreal... i was talking about this in my journal earlier

I do not get people at all..

I can be extremely harsh on the internet but to encourage someone to commit suicide? that I can't even begin to understand...

I can bet you ten bucks, no ones gonna get in trouble? Why?

"Other people can't force you to commit suicide, thats one persons choice"

Think of that chick, who was harrassed and lead on, by some girl and her MOTHER. And yet....it dragged for months and they kept saying "well...no one did anything wrong....."

Some will say "It's the internet, you shouldnt take people seriously"

And some will argue "I only cheered the dude on cause I didnt think he'd do it."

And I can bet, most people who saw it, will go to bed and wake up and forget it ever really mattered in the first place.

I didn't mean it doesn't fly - That's the same excuse that the moron who drives drunk uses.. I didn't intend for somethig to happen.

people need to think about consequences before they do something... and realize their action or inaction also does have consequences.

my diaty last week I ranted about one fo the trainers from the biggest moron show who was arrested for child abuse... the landlord heard the child cry for a month... and did nothing.. for too long...

His decision to kill himself is his own...

However, that in no way makes it ok, right, acceptable, or ignorable - the behavior of the asshats on the two forums that called, and encouraged, and didn't do anything to try to stop him. I've been an admin and/or a moderator on a several very high volume forums... Every couple of months we'd get the "i'm going to kill myself posts"... Common sense says you kill the post - some people are attention whoring others are serious...either way... the post gets moved and the ISP/email provider gets contacted (both info a moderator has easy access to)

The guy wrote a letter...this was decided long before he went online.

1. The letter supposedly was not his. He took it from some other corner of the web and pasted it in the thread.

2. Even if it were decided.... he is obviously someone in need of serious help and has a very skewed perception. Just because he 'might have made up his mind' doesn't mean complete strangers should show no compassion at all, egg him on and make fun of him, and watch him lay there and die for hours on end before doing anything.

Sorry, I don't see how his decision to do what he did has any relevancy to what's wrong with this 'picture.'

EDIT: Read Mal's post after posting this, but I share the same thoughts obviously.

I don't know what my feelings on this are.

I can't imagine a 19 year old being sure enough to commit suicide. I don't know the situation, if he was depressed or it was a terminal illness thing, but It doesn't sound like he was dying.

I don't think he thought he was really going to die. You don't broadcast something like that, and advertise it ahead of time if you want to succeed. I think he thought he would get help if it was needed. 19 is way too young, too immature to know concretely that nothing is going to help and theres only one option left.

As for the people who didn't call the police. I don't doubt they thought it was a hoax, or refused ot believe they just witnessed that. Denial is so natural, and once they called 911 it would be admitting it was real. Especially if they said anything that was "egging him on" I'm sure they really believed, or made themselves believe, it was a hoax.

The guy didn't post asking for help, he asked for an audience. I don't think charges are necessary. Unless theres info that I am not privy to, I don't see what good it would do.

I agree. What those people did was terrible. However, I don't believe anything should "happen" to them.

I don't think this kind of thing will ever stop. If people are capable of killing others, then of course they're capable encouraging others to kill themself, and I think that the entire world has become a little bit more liberal about suicide all together.

It may not have been anyone's fault but his own, but if even one of these people had thought to react and contacted the police instead of egging him on, it could have been their fault that he lived, and was able to get some help with his problems and progress with a better life.

And I think that's the way for everything, not just suicide. If instead of teasing, or taunting, if they'd just have an ounce of compassion and support people when they're having a hard time, or to stand up for someone who needs help, if people would just stop to consider that we're all human beings for just 10 seconds before they said a word, or threw a punch, we might live in a better place.

I personally don't understand this need to degrade others or make them feel bad. I really don't.
