I finished watching this a few hours ago....Thought i'd share some thoughts
Heath Herring vs. Minotauro Nogueira.
I have to be honest here, i have never seen either of these two fight but having said that, i expected Nogueira to win and dominate given how much hype he has recieved. The first round was fairly even until that head kick by Herring landed. This really should have been the end of the fight but Herring was unable to capitalise. Other than that, despite the win i was unconvinced by Nogueira. Like i said, i havn't seen him fight before and you know what they say about first impressions.
Sean Sherk (C) vs. Hermes Franca....Lightweight title match.
WOW! Complete dominance by Sherk. Other than Franca landing a couple of well calculated knees and that guillotine in the first round, Sherk showed just how dominant and aggressive he is. Franca was never really in this fight and i was suprised at how much he dominated the fight. I expect a long title reign out of Sherk. I mean, does anyone really look like they can compete with him?
Tito Ortiz vs. Rashad Evans
You could argue that technically Tito won if it wasn't for the point deduction for grabbing the cage but you could also argue that if he hadn't grabbed the cage Rashad could've taken him down and dominated the round anyway, or better yet finished him off right then and there. Having said that, it was an even fight and the draw was the right result for this one. Only question is, what's next for these two? Do they have a rematch straight away? You could also say that had Rashad won the match than he would be the number one contender and Tito would have some work to do get back into contendership. Gotta love the depth and competition in the 205 division.
Anderson Silva (C) vs. Nate Marquardt...Middleweight title match.
Silva pretty much dominated the fight. In my mind, he had already won the match before it started. There isn't as much depth in the middleweights as the other divisions.
Kenny Florian vs. Alvin Robinson
Florian looks very small, he just about looks as though he could cut down to 145. I have never heard of Alvin Robinson. He has a good physique, but he couldn't hang with Florian. I think Florian vs. Sherk II would see the same result as it did last time just simply due to Sherk's size, conditioning and overall skill.
Overall thoughts.
Appropriately named stacked deffinately lived up to the billing but there was so much talking during the bouts and it just seemed to drag on a bit. By the time the lightweight title match was over we'd almost passed the 90 minute mark of the Pay Per View. But if that's my only complaint than it must have been good. Looking forward to UFC 74...Couture vs. Gonzaga for the Heavyweight championship and St. Pierre vs. Koshcheck. You would have to think that the winner of this match would meet the winner of Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra somewhere down the road.
