Tyra Banks

clarification

I know it was about anorexia but I just happened to find the larger women on stage beautiful.

As for severe illness, it is a pity when you are ill and don't know it.

i agree...my boyfriend and i both watched it and we both thought it was a great show. i think tyra looked great! it was so sad though that yael thought she was completely healthy weighing in at a whopping 80lbs and being 5'9''.

yael

I don't think she was 5'9". She would be absolutely skeletal at that weight. When Tyra said "being 5'9" I think she was referring to herself. Still, 80 pounds is dangerously low.

Like that husband said, "she[his wife]won't just pass out or faint, she'll have a heart attack".

I guess I missed this show first time around but just saw the re-run last night. I had a totally different reaction to it than you guys. While I thought it was very sad that the two anorexic women seemed in denial of the health risks they were facing by starving themselves...I thought it equally sad that the two very overweight women (plus size model and eating disorder author) on the panel seemed equally in denial of the health risks they were facing by their attitudes of "I'm curvy".

Sorry, but while it's important to not base our entire sense of self worth and acceptance based on size (great or small), I just think it's equally important to recognize that obesity is more than a matter of being "curvy", it's a significant health risk and just because it's more common for the average woman to be overweight or even obese than truly (in the clinical sense) anorexic, does not make it less of a problem to be addressed.
