Two Quick Questions

1.) What are the advantages/disadvantages of lifting all muscles on the same day 3 times a week vs. lifting 5 different muscle groups (giving them each their own day) meaning 5 days a week? On the first, you are lifting each muscle three times in one week, and on the second, each muscle only gets worked once a week. But from what I see on people's work out regimens, they seem to divide their lifting as in case two.

2.) Is there any problem with lifting at 11:00am and then running on the same day at 7:00pm? Does it hurt healing time, or counter the lift in any way?

Thank you

1) i think there are lots of different opinons on this, id say 3 times a week full body workout. you get enough rest, you get the muscles worked 3 times, and i think ive read somewhere that you should work a muscle 2-4 times.
also, your body wasnt made to use one part one day and one part the next day, was it?:p im a fan of all in one. bodybuilders often do the different muscle each day thing, so i guess it depends what your goals are, but for str, id say go with 3 full body workouts.

2) ive been told it can confuse the energy path systems or something like that, the best to do is to do weight lifting on one day and cardio on another day, but if you dont have time for that i dont think theres anything really wrong about it. aslong as you do cardio after the weight training

Cardio after weights? What is the difference if you were to do cardi before weights... back when i was talking to a PT they reccomended doing like 5-10 min of cardio before working out just to get warmed up? Was she wrong, i mean she was a PT. But i don't really do that, ha, i just run in the morning at like 6am before classes for a half hour and then lift around 11am or 2pm. I don't feel tired or anything, but is this hurting elsewhere (recovery of muscles, "energy path", etc...?)

Thanks

Tex,

More advanced lifters only need to hit their muscle groups once per week to maintain or make gains. As a beginner, you may want to do 2 or 3 times per week.

As to why not do everything at once, in theory it is great, but your body breaksdown and your first couple of exercises will be at a FAR greater intensity than the last couple of exercises.

How about breaking your workout down like this: push one day, pull one day, legs one day, repeat all three. This gives you 2 workouts per body part and a seventh rest day.

Cardio on the same day with workouts is fine. I know some bodybuilders who workout one body part in the morning (super intense), run at lunch for 60 minutes, and then finish up the evening working another body part with weights! That is hardcore, but people do do it.

The key is to find a groove that you dig and stick with it. Everyone's body responds a little differently... Try different ways and find what works best for YOU.
