Turningpoint's Diary 2014-2015

Well, I have finally reached a point in my life where it's time to start caring and about being healthy. 2013 and thus far 2014 has been tragic to say the least on my health. My weight skyrocketed from an already overweight state of 209 pounds up to my current weight of 253 pounds, Wow, it didn't just sneak up on me, like a thief in the night, I have been ignoring it desperately hoping that it would go away. That of course, has not worked and I'm utterly miserable and unhappy. So I am trying a new approach beginning today called accountability to me for a new me. I do this not for vain reasons alone, but more for health reasons including a family history of heart disease ( father passed at 52 from a massive heart attack), high blood pressure, ankle osteoarthritis, knee and back pain, shortness of breath, fatigue...:nopity:

So, I say to me...YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Current Weight: 253
Goal Weight: 160

Thank you for your welcome. I fully intend to take full advantage of the wealth of knowledge available here. I am still working on my game plan and hopefully by tomorrow, that will be in place.

Great job on taking the first step in starting your weight loss journey! You can do this! I have my own medical history that is scary enough, and if you add on my family history, that's definitely all the reason I need to get the rest of my weight off. So I completely understand you wanting to get your health in order now. Good luck and welcome to the forum! :)

Welcome aboard Turningpoint!

And you're right, you can do this. The three of us who have commented so far have all dropped a crapload of weight. No reason you can't join us.

Thank you all! I am so impressed of all three of your accomplishments with your weight loss. It is truly inspiring and congrats to everyone on this journey.

Today is the beginning of the soda wean for me. I'm determined to wean free from my 30 year addiction from you! You're controlled my life down to the point that I have fooled my brain into thinking it can't function without you. Well guess what, I intend to prove you wrong. It is also a baby step into the exercise arena.

Baby steps are the way to go in my opinion. All the small changes eventually add up and give you results. Good luck weaning off the pop! :)

Thank you. Weaning off the soda has not been as dreadful as I originally thought it was going to be. I need to put a certain amount of water into my diet as a mandatory intake. I'll need to look up how much is recommended to drink on a daily basis. I've yet to get started on an exercise routine to date. Set a time and allow no change in plans at least three or four times a week. Baby steps... I'm going to move my goal weight up by 5 pounds, I'm almost 5'10 and want a healthy look. So, I'll see when I hit it if I still need to drop anymore. I just want out of the 200 range right now.

If anyone is reading this and can point me in the direction of how to put in a footer on my posts. I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks

Baby steps all the way! You can't run if you don't first walk, and you can't walk if you haven't yet learned to crawl. Its all about slow, steady progression. I'm sorry to hear about your father (however recent that was) and can understand the need for accountability due to health issues and family history. Those are two of my biggest reasons for wanting to get fit, along with career advancement, and once you put those sort of things into perspective, it really opens up your eyes.
I wish you nothing but the best of luck in your endeavors, and know that we're all here rooting for you!

As for the footer, I'm not entirely sure, but I believe it can be added/edited in your 'advanced settings'. Don't quote me on that though :p

You can add a signature under settings. The option for you to add one won't show up until you've made a certain number of posts though, or at least that's how it used to work. I think it's 10. :)

Welcome! :D Good to see you've got some goals to work towards. A positive outlook always helps, maintaining that can be hard sometimes but that's why we're here :D Good luck!

Thank you for this information! I couldn't find it anywhere, I hope to see it once I hit the set number of posts. Have a great weekend!

Thank you for your words of encouragement. Baby steps all the way. I'm looking to make positive long term changes to my diet and life. I know all the ways to lose the weight only to put it back on again, so this time I'm working on a long term process and getting rid of a few bad habits along the way. Have a great weekend!

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I have goals and a long way to go to hit them, but think with the wealth of information and encouragement that is here...I can do it!

Yeah! The scales finally went under the 250 mark this morning at 247. The soda wean has reared it's ugly head with the presence of a few good headaches, as I continue to decrease the amount everyday. My goal is to be completely off them by the first day of November or before if possible. I have been far too sedentary for the last year and a half and my muscles are screaming at me with the introduction of exercise back into my life. After spending a total of 15 weeks in a cast on my right leg and 6 months in a walking boot over the last year, I picked up some bad habits of not exercising the rest of my body from fear of further injury. After all that time I learned there is no "fix" for it and the excess weight that I am carrying only further adds to residual discomfort it places on the joint. Another good reason to be at a healthy weight!

Whoo! Congrats on making it under 250! :hurray:

Oh gosh, I can totally understand the thing with your leg. I've had multiple surgeries on my left knee due to a chronic ACL tear, and know how it feels to be stuck on your butt for months, and then suddenly trying to get back into a more active lifestyle. It isn't fun at all... but know that you can do it! It just takes time, patience, and perseverance. You're off to a wonderful start!

Sorry to hear about your leg injury. I hope you are taking exercise seriously (and carefully) now :p Plenty of low impact stuff can still be really beneficial without causing a problem to your leg!

Well done on the loss :D And well done on the headaches lol, it's a good sign that your body is reacting, it shows that you're actually depriving it enough to have an effect! Keep it up :D

I'm sorry to hear about your knee surgeries as well. Those lower joint issues are problematic and do land you flat on your back due to the pain and swelling that come along with prolonged activities. I'm working on some low impact exercises trying not to add injury to insult, but still having to drag out the ice packs after the fact some of the time. Deep down I know that the pros will definitely outweigh the cons with the added activity .
