Turbo Jam question

I just started using Turbo Jam today. I've done the learn and burn twice since that is the only thing I can really keep up with right now, even though I need to take a minute or two break in the middle. My question is I heard you're supposed to really feel it in your abs but I feel it more in my upper legs. I think I'm doing the bass position correctly (shoulders back, tail bone under). Maybe I'm not. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Another question I forgot about... I have pretty big man boobs. I've started doing pushups a lot. For instance every time I get off the couch or computer chair I do 10-20 push ups. I know that is supposed to help but does any of the moves in Turbo Jam target that area as well?

As you can tell I'm pretty new to all this fitness stuff. Sorry for the dumb questions.

No such thing as a dumb question....or at least yours isn't dumb. I don't have an answer for you but saw your introduction thread and figured I'd respond here as I have the opposite problem of you...I don't have man boobs or even girl boobs. Losing weight robbed me of the boobs I did have and I would like to learn what sort of exercises I need to do to build pectoral muscles. For some reason I suspect that both of us will need to do similar exercises to build the underlying muscle...but I'm not sure.

Anyhow...welcome dude! :)

I have been taking a Turbo Kick class that is taught by a certified trainer. It's the same as Turbo Jam.

To answer your question about feeling the burn in your abs....the burn you feel will be in your legs buddy! It's all about using your legs and arms, and when you stand in position yes make sure your shoulders are back, your tailbone/pelvis tucked under and squeeze your ass. pulling in your abs tight.... AND GET LOW!

Just remember ...

A less than perfect workout is better than no workout!

And for the manboobs I'm not sure what to suggest....I guess just cardio and strength train and I'm sure you'll see some results that you'll be happy with!

Best of luck to you!!!

Thanks for the info. I really feel it in my legs like I did after doing squats when I used to play football. In my arms I don't feel it so much. Maybe it's because I'm a drummer so my arms are used to a workout.

My BF played drums for 20+ years and if you're drumming you should be feeling it in more than just your arms. Drumming is a full body workout...unless you're drumming to back up the church choir.

I mostly fool around with "simple" stuff like Boston, Journey, Foreigner, ect. So it's not too much of a workout unless I play some Metallica or Rush type songs. I'm not in a band or anything so it's just me fooling around with my set when I get bored here at home. Which is quite a lot. Maybe 3-4 hours a day.

"The only dumb questions are the ones that go unasked"

As for the man-boobs. Lose fat. As you lose body fat you will lose it from the chest as well. Unfortunately it is up to your body where the fat loss comes from in the same way as it is up to it where it is deposited. You can't spot lose it. Keep up the resistance training though because it will help with your overall fat loss. Also when you get that fat off of it you will have a more muscular chest.

Well I hope that it's just because I have some large pecs under them, at least that is what a couple people have told me. Don't ask how they know. :sifone:

Still though I'm worried since that is the area I'm most self conscience about.

I feel ya. I got the love handle blues. It amazes me how that seems to be the first place the weight goes on but the last it comes off. Maybe one of the gurus could explain that but not me.

Well get yourself a double kick drum and rock out. You'll burn off hundreds of calories and develop strong abs. :) Seriously, I never realized how much work drumming is until I met my BF. Drummers are hidden behind their drum kit and you can't really see just how hard they work.

Yah... I'm just a beginner. Not only will a double bass setup and harder songs blow my mind I can't afford to add onto my set right now. =p

Turbo Jam?

I have been contemplating on whether I should get the Turbo Jam DVD or not. I have been reading up on them and the reviews seem pretty good and it looks like fun so im *thinking* about trying them. Amazon is selling a whole set with the hand weights for about $66.00 but before I buy them I was wondering if any of you have ever tried Turbo Jam and if it's even worth it? I have 3 workout DVD's. ALL Denise Austin. I have her Pilates on, the cardio one and the pre-natal workout DVD. I haven't used them that much and have owned them for awhile [can you tell I get bored with DVD's?] but the Turbo Jam looks like it could give me a really good workout!... Something different in my routine other than just running.

if you have a netflix a ccount or blockbuster account - rent them first and see how you like them -- or check the dvd section of your local library...

Thanks for that link. I read through the responses. Im pretty much sold on it now after reading what other people wrote about it and especially that one women who posted her before and afters... She looks awesome. Soooo I went and ordered me the Turbo Jam package!

Good for you! I know I'm a bit late in replying...but I LOVE Turbo Jam! I ordered the original package when it first came out and ended up buying every single Turbo Jam package available at Beachbody, even the TJ on the ball dvds.

I was never disappointed with any of them. I can honestly say it's the first time I ever exercised while SMILING. Chalene is goofy, the music is awesome and really gets you pumping. Let me tell you, you sweat buckets, too.

Try to start slowly and learn the moves. Once you got the foundation down, you can add the intensity and enjoy! There's nothing 'magical' about turbo jam, it's just an awesome cardio workout that's actually FUN!

Oh I am late posting too, but I love to workout in front of my TV and I have also been looking at the turbo jam workouts out.

Keep us posted on how they workout for you!

Cheers,

feeling your abs doing turbo

i am a certified turbo kick instructor. which is the gyms version of turbo jam. when you are doing the zig, zags moves, you really need to tilt your pelvis forward and sqeeze you abs tight. like someone is punching you in the stomach. when you are pumping it up, really use those hips. i know this will be hard starting out. but don't stop trying. it will get easier. for your upper arms you should gets those hand weights beach body sells, they are a terrific addition to your work out. and you can use them while you are drumming also, just make sure you put the weighted part on top of your hand. best of luck to you.
