I'm a 27 year old Male who is up to 310 pounds. In 2000 I weighed 200 and could benh press 300, and I jogged about 25 miles per week. Ate a mostly healthy diet, avoided fried food and soda and red meat etc...
The next 8 years were basically bad diet changes and an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. The working outdoors got traded for a desk job, the healthy eating got replaced by picking up something on the way home from work, the time at the gym got replaced with movie time with my spouse and play time with my kids, etc.
So here I am... realized I'm almost 30 and want to live past 40, and I don't think I will if I keep gaining weight and getting less healthy. I have joint pain in knees/elbows/shoulders, low energy levels, etc. Also recovering from a severe dislocation of my left shoulder from 12 or so weeks ago.
I started 1 week ago on a routine of cardio and weights, basically light versions of what I did years ago when I was in shape. I'm doing 30 minutes of cardio / 45 minutes weights on day A, 60 minutes of cardio (mixing machines) on day B, with one off day per week. I'm focusing on rebuilding strength and joint health and building up energy, mainly feeling better. I feel like the weight loss will happen as a part of it.
I'm working on awareness of when/what/how much I eat and improving incrementally. I know I won;t stick to big drastic changes right now so I'm just working on cutting back soda and fried stuff, and I'll go from there. Using thedailyplate.com to track my workouts and meals.
My ultimate goal is to be back down to around 210-215 1 year from now. I have a huge frame and at 210 pounds I look very lean and healthy. So that's my goal. I doubt it will be as easy to lose weight as it was when I was a teenager, but I'm hoping for the best. The energy levels I have while working out and for hours after are huge motivations for me, and I've found my moods and rest to be much better after just these few days of working out.
