Trying to lose weight again :(

Hi, my name is Katie, and I'm fat! (I feel like I'm at a fat people anonymous meeting!)

I have pretty much always been fat. I started getting fat in about 3rd grade and had always gotten made fun of. Even as a little kid I would claim that I was "on a diet" when my friends would offer me junk food. By the time I was around 13 or 14, I weighed 173 lbs (most I've ever weighed). I am about 5'4". At 14 I got very depressed about how much I weighed and how bad I felt that I looked. I was still getting teased and all that so I had really bad self esteem. I decided I was just going to stop eating, my mom was worried about me so she asked me why I didn't try the Atkins diet. I did, and the Summer before I went to high school I lost about 30 pounds. I looked pretty alright, and then during the school year I lost 20 more pounds. The smallest I got to was 123 pounds and I felt great. A lot of guys liked me, and I was never used to that. It was a huge change and it was the first time that I felt like I looked good. Well anywho, I had a couple boyfriends in high school that didn't work out, and then by the end of my sophomore year I started dating one of my friend's older brothers. He was 21 and I was 16, and it worked out somehow, we are still together now. When me and him got together, I was probably around 130 pounds. Well, you know how it goes, people get comfortable together, they pig out together, then they get fat together. We both gained some weight and we go back and forth gaining and losing. It's driving me crazy. Recently I got up to 163 pounds! Not quite as fat as I used to be, but too close for comfort. I started doing Atkins again and now I'm at 150 (I kind of tend to stay at around 150 nowadays and have a lot of trouble getting under 150 for whatever reason) Sometime last year I had gotten to 145 and was so excited to finally be under 150, but then like I said I ended up falling off the wagon and got fatter again. I can't stand it anymore! I am sick of being fat, but for some reason it's so hard for me to find motivation to really stick to a healthy way of eating. I'm hoping that by being here and seeing other people's progress that I will be motivated to finally get to my goal weight (around 115-120) So, hello everybody!

Well, welcome.

As far as ideas, maybe you could try watching your calorie intake instead of the Atkins diet. Long term studies have shown that, unfortunately, most people tend to regain the weight and then some. The reasoning is you don't actually learn to eat right on Atkins. You are just told to cut the carbs.

Try eating a balanced diet of all things and just watch your calorie intake. Figure your BMR and cut from there. :)
