Trying to lose 40-some pounds

Hey everyone,

I'm new here...obviously. :waving:

I'm a 40 something woman looking to lose about 40 pounds. I've been pretty athletic my entire life..or at least until the last few years. I jumped back on the fitness bandwagon in January and thought I could use the extra support. So, here I am.

Thanks for having me!

Hi, I'm in the same boat in that I too am in my 40's, and I too want to loose 40 odd pounds. Only difference is that I'm a man. I recently joined a health club and started a meal replacement shake diet that includes cardio workouts. So far, so good. I'm looking forward learning and sharing with this community. Good luck on achieving your goals.

Don't worry about calorie counting! Your body is weighted down by toxins. Deal with that first. Stop consuming processed foods, and the detox you will get is very cheep and dramatically effective!

"Don't worry bout calorie counting"????
:ack2:

What a crock of crap. You might as well just "wish" those pounds away!
In order to lose weight, you need to eat less calories than you burn. PERIOD!

"Your body is weighted down by toxins????" :ack2:

My body is weighed down by fat. I do not have 40 extra pounds of toxins in my body. Even after I had my colonoscopy, I was still 40 lbs overweight. And the doc didn't find any hidden lead or pcb's in there.

Now we find a link to a website...which promotes a book that has never before seen techniques on how to lose weight and exercise ...for 17 dollars.
"The miracle of rapid weight loss"
:willy_nilly:
Bahahahahahaha!!! The only thing you are going to lose is 17 dollars.

"Milk Thistle"
I don't have any experience of milk thistle but it has been around for 2000 years. If it was a wonder drug and actually actually proven to do anything it claims to do, I'm sure we all would be more knowledgeable of it. (ie penicillin)

Be leary of thread posters who promote websites on their first post.

Thanks for debunking that bogus post, Flumes. That kind of stuff could seriously mislead newbies looking for tips!

And JPono- I'm glad to find another 40-something woman around here. What kind of fitness regime are you doing, exactly?
I haven't been getting into too much excercise yet- just a bit of step aerobics with a pal from time to time...

Hey, thanks for the replies!

I'm doing some strength training 3 days a week and cardio (tennis and running/walking) 3 days a week.

Hi and welcome.

The first thing I'd suggest is figuring out how many calories you need to be eating by reading this thread: http://weight-loss.fitness.com/nutrition/40273-how-many-calories-should-i-eat.html

Then register for a free account on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and start to log your food. This will let you see how many calories you're eating and how your nutrition levels are breaking down. Once you know that, you'll be able to see more clearly where you can make adjustments, cut back, change your nutrition, etc.

The next thing I'd suggest is checking out the various sticky posts in the exercise area of the forum (Weight Loss Through Exercise - Weight Loss Forum). There are some very good posts on exercise, both cardio/aerobic and on incorporating weight lifting into your exercise plans.

I'd also suggest starting a diary in the weight loss diary area (Weight Loss Diary - Weight Loss Forum) as well as reading and participating in other diaries. This is a good way to make updates to your progress and to get support from others. It helps to find the diaries of people who have successfully lost weight (or are losing weight) and reading through them as well. Following the diaries of those who have been successful is both inspiring and informative.

Finally, I'd say you should read as much as you can of the posts on the board, especially anything that's marked "sticky". There is a ton of good information around here and a lot of times questions that new folks have has already been answered very thoroughly - so do take the time to look around and read. :)

Hope that helps you to get started.

Welcome to the forum. I wish you success. If you need any help, let me know. You could start a diary on this forum and save it to your bookmarks so you don't forget it. And then you could watch your progress each day and let us know how your doing. I started a diary today. Also by starting a diary, people may leave comments and be your support team :)

Thanks for the advice. I've already done the calorie work-up and have a diary of sorts of my own going.

Thanks again!
