Trying to get over a 1 year plateau

Hey all,

My name is Kristen. My highest non-pregnant weight was around 215 lbs. (and I'm only 5'2"). I got down to 200 just by breastfeeding. Then I decided I was going to change my life and lose weight. I'm now down to 170-175.

I've been in the low 170's for a year now. I can't seem to get past the plateau. I eventually became very discouraged and now have a hard time convincing myself to start exercising again.

One way I have motived myself was by creating an online weight-loss journal and writing weight-loss articles. (On my website , but lately I haven't even been posting in my journal because I'm feeling so discouraged. I know I've gone from 215 to 175, but I still feel like a failure because I'm not at 130 (my goal weight).

I'm here because I want to talk to other people who have gone through a similar situation. How did you get over that plateau? I need inspiration.

Happy day!

Kristen

Hi there Kristen,

welcome to the forum. First off, congrats with losing 40lbs. That's a huge accomplishment you should be very proud of. As for feeling like a "failure," there's really no need to be hard on yourself. Your goal weight is 130lbs. Awesome. So it's taking you a bit longer to reach that goal... that's not a problem at all. I think you just need to focus on how far you've come and to pay mind as to how much work/ effort you've put in to get where you are now.

As for getting through your plateau, you may want to do a forum search. There are TONS of plateau tips/ advice from various members. Good luck with it.

i know how you feel, im the same height and weight as you. i always get into the mood to lose weight and then in a couple of weeks i lose my will to keep going. its really hard but you just have to focus on what you want and the things that you can get out of achieving your goal. You could try doing something that doesnt really feel like exercise like taking your baby out for a walk, or instead of driving to places that r close you could walk there too

Hey there! Welcome.

I understand where you are. I went from 247 to the 170s and then quit for a while. I hit a stall that wouldn't break and then I decided that maybe I just needed to maintain at this weight for a while. It's been a bit over a year and now I'm starting to lose again.

What are you doing as far as food and exercise? Give us some more info on your current plan and maybe we can make some suggestions!
