Trying to find strength and health ...

Hello folks ... my name is Lee. I suppose I should start off by saying, I'm a caveslave living under my g/f, I live on disability for severe depression/anxiety. It makes life rough, but I stick with it and don't let myself give up.

I've been fiddling with fitness and weight lifting for *many* years, but in the past year (mostly due to diet and worsening depression) I got badly out of shape.

So the past few months, I've been trying to do research, into the best exercises, proper form, good foods to eat, but I feel like I can't pull it all together into a focused picture, which is why I am here. Hopefully I can find more knowledge and assistance here, and start finding my inner strongman.

EDIT: Just looked at the sticky, thought I would include some more detailed info.

I'm 29 years old, 5'10, 240 lbs. My goals as of now are to lose fat from my body, while building strength and endurance. My resources at the moment are kinda limited (a bike, a standing heavybag, 2 pairs of dumbbells [10 and 20 lbs]). Being a caveslave, I am afforded an open, fluid schedule, and I do exercise, but, I feel like it has no focus, and like I make no progress. Better equipment is kinda outta the question at the moment ... so yea ...

Its good that you've played around with exercise for a few years, that shows some consistent interest. Yes, its hard to maintain a fitness regime if your exercises feel meaningless.

What I suggest is that you look at fitness with fresh eyes. instead of limiting the purpose of fitness to keeping or getting you in shape and good health, look for movements that you enjoy. Look at the different types of sports and activity there are out there and see what draws you. Try different things and search for what feels good that you'd want to do it regardless of results.

I would lose focus on health/exercise alot, due to how bad my depression gets at times. Like, I would build a routine for a bit, then get discouraged and fall off, and have to find the desire to exercise all over again.

I do like kickboxing *alot*, so I would always work in shadowboxing, either as a way of warming up, or do it harder/more intensely as a form of cardio (which needs alot of work, I think). I'm really not much for sports ... the only sports that ever caught my interest were wrestling and kickboxing.

I do like weightlifting, which is why I've been trying to read up on the best types of lifts, and proper form. I wish I could get a barbell, but at the moment, it's financially out of reach.

Diet still needs alot of work. I'm gradually phasing out some of my more unhealthy favorites and phasing in healthier stuff (all bran, sweet peas, etc). I hate being a picky eater.

But that's why I came here, to gain more knowledge, to find a better focus and figure what is best for me.
