Trying to Design a Good Workout Routine

I used to be go to the gym a lot but now I'm rusty. I've started going out and spend most of my time on the elliptical (1 Hour) I want to start adding in the weight machines because I know this is what will increase my metabolism and burn fat.
Can any of you recommend something for me? I'm not sure if spending over 45 mins on a cardio machine is hurting or helping.
I'm not overweight or anything and I'm 24 if that helps. Thanks for any tips or ideas!;)

A weight routine will depend on many things. But if you're just getting back into it... stick with a full body routine done 3 days a week. Start with lighter weights so you can focus on movement and form.

Once comfortable with the movements, move up to heavier weights. Select an exercise for each major muscle group. Do that exercise for 3 sets of 10 reps with a minute in between sets for rest.

There is a lot of information on my

Lynn - I dont think its fair that you use this forum to addvertise your website.
If there is information you want to give people then you should cut and paste it on to this forum. Its bad enough that your website is on your signature. People have been band for a lot less and the only reason your here is because you are able to give good advice in the womens forums.

You know normally I would be right there with you on website advertising but I think in this case you are wrong.

For one Lynn does have a ton of stuff on her website that can be helpful from activity calculators to exercise movements and food information. She helps the women here all the time and doesn't ask for anything in return. She helped me through email free of charge when thats a premium pay service on her site to get. She isn't just here for the "money or promotion" and honestly so many women have gotten where they need to be on this board because of her help and her site.

And didn't I read you wanted to advertise you upcoming site through worldfitness? I don't mean it in a point finger way, i just mean that this is a possible place of advertisment for you as well. I think you are a smart guy and give good advice but why you would call out someone who obviously really helps people here and bring that negative energy I don't really understand. There are people that have just started coming here throwing their sites all around, shes got over 1000 posts and is in my opinon a staple here so I just don't see the beef there. Lets support one another efforts. I by the way would feel the same way if you threw in a check out my site for info link because you have given advice and helped people out and its beyond personal gain.

Just something to think about.

Just to clear this up. No, I wanted to addvertise this forum thru my website, not the other way round. Plus, I would be making no money on this project, I will only loose money as I will have to pay for webspace. And the project that I am starting will give 100's maybe even 1000's of people all the information for free.
I think its wrong that people can regurgitate and practically copy from other books and sourses and charge money for it.
We are talking about the health of the human race. This information should be free to everone.

Dont get me wrong I think that Lynn does a great job in helping others and I thank her for that. I just feel its wrong to charge money for information on the human body. Just think of all the people who cant afford to pay for some information pack and are not clever enough to find the information themselves. They will end up crash dieting and causing harm.

I do understand your point and am an avid supporter of free information. However some people are just not either inclined to read up on that information or feel its to overwhelming and don't know where to begin. I kind of look at it like this..

My toyota camery transmission is messed up. Now I have two options, I can go to the library or look online for how to fix it myself or I can take it to professional and have them do it for me. There are pros and cons to both of course. It goes back to the whole "if you teach a man to fish" way of thinking. I for one like to learn as much as I can about whatever I can. However I understand and sometimes need the ease and knowledge of those who are more knowing than me.

So yes I think all this information should be free, and it is. There isn't anything I need to know that I can't find through google or in books. However if someone doesn't have to time or the desire to learn themselves, or just needs a place to start I see nothing wrong with someone providing a personalized guide to that for them for a fee because that uses up their time in life. It is the same with personal trainers, I can look up how to have good form, however sometimes having someone beside you helps that process go smoother or with less trial or error. However they deserve to be payed for their time it took to show you that and guide you on your way.

In my opinion that is what Lynn does, she says here some info, research what you will, but hey if you want me to help make it personalized to your life/body and give you the exact details you may need then sign up for my program/ebook. Nothing wrong with that to me.

I'm the moderator of a record producer/engineer site just like this one and we call them pimps. Not in a negative way, it's just they are selling either gear or a service. As a moderator I have to keep them under control because it can be damaging to the site in the long run. Some guy may sell a specific peice of recording equipment and then they passively put down competitors gear when it shows up on a thread.

Lynn sells weight and strength training, that's her bread and butter. So she will always lean in that direction. Remember personal trainers make no money telling people to do cardio! I know from experience, I managed a health club for 10 years and was a trainer, nutritionist and a medic in the United States Army. Like Chris Rock says "the money's in the medicine, not the cure". The fitness industry lives by selling suppliments, protein powders, magazines etc... Most all of this is geared towards selling weight training. There's no money in hitting the street in a pair of sneakers except the initial shoe sale.

With all this said, Lynn is solid and has vast knowledge in weight lose and getting in shape. Her posts are almost always the same; small meals, weight training, cardio, cup of water with each meal and 8 hours of sleep. Can't argue with that.

Gosh, lots of hub bub over me. Thanks to those sticking up for me. I was not advertising my product or service. I posted a link to my site in this post because the first post in this thread was very broad and general.

Typically I post sincere responses to each person's individual questions. The only time I copy and paste is the 5 tips to fat loss. However, I only post them when someone new is on the boards and asking the same questions over and over.

I don't take offense to anything. I am not blatantly selling my product or service. It's in my sig line- not as a link. In fact, I don't believe I even make many sales from spending tons of time here.

I only know of 2-3 people that bought my ebook because they saw me here. Me posting here is to pass on information from my experiences. I'll keep posting to help people. Believe me... I don't make any money from posting here as much as I do...lol

Nothin' but love for ya. I just re-read my post and it seemed a bit harsh. I apologize Lynn. Honestly, I'm so f***ing hungery I'm ready to kill.. lol Healthy food just never hits me like a number 3 from McDonalds. Keep the fitness alive!

Thanks for responding.
Lynn - since posting that Ive been reading some of your posts and You do seam to be helping a lot of people. The thing was was against is the fast that you had an advert on the link that you gave.
Your selling is more classy that a lot of ppl we get here But I dont think we should be aloud to give out links with an advert on the same page.

Im glad you didnt take offence, and I completly understand everyone point. Maybe If I worked in the fitness industry I would feel diffrent.

No harsh feelings. I spend over an hour a day on these forums helping people. I outpost to all sorts of sites... not just mine. The link I posted above doesn't lead to a page where I am selling a product. It leads to a page where I have tons of free information.

HollywoodBlvd, I had a late breakfast- which is unusual for me- and I got that grumpy, angry feeling too...lol! Now that I ate... my anger is settling down :p

Keep it up Lynn, I always value your post and suggestions.
Your advice has been a great benefit to myslef personally.

Thanks!

Lynn does fine

I believe Lynn helps lot of people. It is an easier way to link website for details sometimes. This should be fine as long as no conflict to the rules of this forum. :)
