Hello,

I was active in Men's Health forum, but the magazine upset me with a political statement that went against my political beliefs. I have strong opinions that I will not share here (we're here to lose weight, I'll argue politics elsewhere), and could not allow my dollars to support those who go against my beliefs.

I am looking for a new place to be held accountable.

Brief background. Male, graduated HS at 180, probably 10 to 15% BF. Graduated College in 1999 at 265, probably less lean mass than when I graduated HS. Yo-Yo'd many times in the past 10 years getting below 210 several times, but never breaking 200.

Currently 250. Was 220 one year ago. Had worked out daily from July 08 until Feb 9th 2009 when we learned that we lost our second child while still in the womb. Taking care of my wife, and another medical issue with her led to me not working out for a few weeks and I never did get back on the horse. We have since had a successful pregnancy and welcomed our second child into the world 6 weeks ago. Please do not feel sorry for me, one minor setback in otherwise a great life!

On top of that, we moved into a bigger house for our growing family this past summer.

Moving, pregnant wife, toddler at home, etc. is a recipe for the pizza guy to come often and I gained a lot of weight back.

However, all that is behind me. I have a life to live in front of me. I'm ready to attack my weight problem one more time and keep it off.

I'll post a before pic and progress as we go, in the mean time, I just wanted to introduce myself and get on the board.

Hey,

I know about having kids and gaining weight. My three sons were born in 1989, 1990 and 1992. In that time, I went to work and then came home to the family. Not much time for exercising. I decided that exercising became an investment in myself that provided real payback to me and the family. I was happier, period. I had gained back a nice tight body. I am interested to know what is you real external reason for wanting to lose weight - looks, health, attraction, many others?

Hi and welcome.

Congrats on your birth of your 2nd and the move and new place. Sounds like a lot of positive things in your life!

As far as losing weight, here's the standard advice I give to everyone who is new to the board:

The first thing I'd suggest is registering for a free account on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, Food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate and starting to log your food. This will let you see how many calories you're eating and how your nutrition levels are breaking down. Once you know that, you'll be able to see more clearly where you can make adjustments, cut back, change your nutrition, etc.

The next thing I'd suggest is checking out the various sticky posts in the exercise area of the forum (Weight Loss Through Exercise - Weight Loss Forum). There are some very good posts on exercise, both cardio/aerobic and on incorporating weight lifting into your exercise plans.

I'd also suggest starting a diary in the weight loss diary area (Weight Loss Diary - Weight Loss Forum) as well as reading and participating in other diaries. This is a good way to make updates to your progress and to get support from others. It helps to find the diaries of people who have successfully lost weight (or are losing weight) and reading through them as well. Following the diaries of those who have been successful is both inspiring and informative.

Finally, I'd say you should read as much as you can of the posts on the board, especially anything that's marked "sticky". There is a ton of good information around here and a lot of times questions that new folks have has already been answered very thoroughly - so do take the time to look around and read. :)

Hope that helps you to get started! :)
