trimming arms

I am a fairly fit girl. I ran track my whole life and now that i dont do it anymore I cant seem to get myself around working out. As a result Ive gained a few pounds. Its not much and is only noticeable to those who see me everyday but its enough to knock me outta my funk and ive recently started going back to the gym.

Because of track im used to lifting heavy weights but since ive stopped running and continued lifting, the fat built up over my muscle so my arms look bigger than they should.

I just want to know how to make my arms smaller. If there are any specific excercises to do. I know I shouldnt lift as heavy as usual bc that just builds up muscle and doesnt make arms smaller. Thanks.
 
You can not spot reduce. Your genes determine where fat will tend to accumulate on your body. You can only reduce your overall body fat with a sensible combination of diet, resistance training and cardio. Lifting heavy weights does not make your muscles big unless it is combined with a the proper genetics and an excess of calories. In fact a lot of women find that as they increase lean body mass and reduce body fat that their measurements decrease and their body weight increases. Do NOT Be afraid of heavy weights, unless you are a 1 in a million genetic freak and devote your whole life to eating a caloric excess and 2 hour a day weight workouts you will NOT get big muscles. If only it was that easy we would all look like Arnold in his prime.
