trigger foods

Although some people say anything is good in moderation, does anyone have any trigger foods that they just will not eat because they fear they cant control themselves?

cookies.

oreos, mainly.

i had avoided them for about 2 years but got a craving and broke my record.

sigh.

Nachos, I think. I mean, I can handle a bite or two, but every time I come close to a plate, I ALWAYS drastically under estimate how many calories it holds. So, I banned myself from nachos... At least for the summer, or maybe until I get down to 130. We'll see.

Other than that, as long as I have either pre-packaged food OR put aside what I'm going to eat into a bowl or something (basically, so I'm not eating right out of the box), I can prevent myself from going too far.

....oh yeah.
And sushi. I can NOT turn down Sushi, EVER. Lucky for me a roll is usually only ~300 calories, AND pretty darned expensive. So, once a month (or less) I'll order three sushi rolls, and eat just that throughout the day. Mmmm~~

Blue Bunny Peanut Butter Panic Ice Cream...
So good...so good...
I could literally eat the entire 1/2 gal of this in one sitting. I try not to buy it, but it seriously is like I cant help it. So I'll buy it occassionally, workout like a crazy person, and then treat myself. That stuff is so good I'd take a bullet for it!

Pizza, Ice Cream, and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies....... Are not allowed in the house! I will continue to eat pizza until it is all gone, even cold for breakfast. Hagen Daaz has a white chocolate rasberry swirl that is made by Satan himself. I don't even want to talk about those damn girl scouts! :drool5:

my trigger food is mango con chile (mango with chili)... I will eat the entire package of it if I'm not payin attention. Its just so damn good.

For some people there is actually a tendency toward eating "hyper-palatable" foods, I just wrote a about this not to long ago. Basically there are certain foods that act like a drug on the brains of some individuals - calculated amounts of salt, sugar and fat combined will trigger an opiate-like response in our brains. According to Dr. David Kessler (he wrote the book The End of Overeating - a great read I highly recommend it!) we have hundreds of olfactory senses in our brains programmed to ferret out fat smells and sugar smells as these foods were rare and hard to come by back in the old cave days, when famines were common. Though the threat of famines here in the 1st world is a non-issue, the primitive structures of our brains have not caught on yet, so when foods are manufactured in such a way (and I'm mostly talking about highly processed foods) to manipulate and exploit these centers of our brains, we eat for pleasure instead of fuel--much like someone who shoots up heroine does for it the hyper-stimulation and not for any reason that benefits his health or well-being.

The good news is that having this information empowers us to make informed choices, it certainly changed the way I look at highly processed foods!

Anything sweet but also anything baked- cookies, chocolate croissant, cheese croissant, cinnamon roll, ham and cheese roll....

There's a really amazing bakery on my way to work. The obsession with baked good got intense...i could eat four chocolate croissant in one sitting. It was disgusting. Now I take a different route to work. I go there for bread sometimes (maybe once in two weeks), and don't even look at the baked item section.

I also have the tendency of finding one obsession when i let go of another. If it was one kind of chocolate this week, it is sugary donuts the nxt, and fruit leather after that, or cheese croissant.

Anything for me. IF I start eating bad I find it very hard to get back on board. Last weekend I meant to have one treat (a Cupcake). I had decided what I wanted during the week which was NOT the right thing for me to do cause me and my mom ended up going for breakfast so I over ate there but I had my mind so set on having the cupcake I just hadto have it so then I did and it just spiralled out of control from there.
So I find the best thing for me do to is not plan anything, Try to eat good then if something does randomly come up (dinner out) I can use that as my treat and not crave something I already decided on.

Sweets. I think I have everything else under control. I can go grab a 3 pack of tacos every 2 weeks or so and be fine. I ate pizza a week ago without blowing things up. (didn't even enjoy it that much, TBH) I can even grab a carton of chinese, eat till full, and be done.

But let me get my hands on a desert - preferably something with fruit - and it's on. I ate a slice of key lime pie of over two days last week. And followed that with a 2 pack of the Edward's apple crumbles. And 2 fudge Pop-Tarts. All in like 5 or 6 days. Put 2 pounds back on, and just now showing the shed again. blargh.

BBQ Chicken Wings and I have parted for life. It was just time. I cannot have just one. I need to have them *all*. I do *not* like to share them. I made the choice and I can live with it. Working on some other choices now but most of those foods are interchangeable - there's not one thing I would say in terms of sweets I always crave - it could be popcorn or chocolate or ice cream or even just a block of cheese. But chicken wings ... I ate rarely but fully, if you catch my meaning (the whole plate, if you dont). It wreaks havic on your digestive system...and I decided after 25 you can't eat fried foods like french fries and wings and get away with it. And, what I've dubbed "celebrity science" backs me up on this - Cameron Diaz says no Cheese Fries after 30. So there. :-O

For me it's potato chips. Any kind of potato chip, but especially Lay's sour cream and onion or any kind of kettle chip. I just don't buy them, don't eat them, don't bring them into my house.

Anything else I can resist or eat a single serving and be happy. Chips? I'll eat the whole bag at a sitting and not even blink.

Good Beer, Cheese sandwich with mayo and crushed chips....Pizza, Greens, Cornbread, Fried Chicken, Red beans and rice, Whoppers, Italian food... Arabic food...

I'm Screwed....lol

Um ... greens? :) Greens are one of the healthiest things you can eat? Why would greens be a trigger food?

Because thats like driving to vegas without walking down the strip...lol... With the greens comes the rest of the not so healthy friends. i eat greens.. then im going to want fried chicken, cornbread, fried chicken gizzards and livers, hushpuppies, hoecakes...

I too have a sweet tooth. So I guess anything that is sweet I have to eat until its finished! Cant hide it in fridge also. I eat at the sight of food. When I see it I want to eat it. How weird..

But I agree with RunningGirl, I too feel hungry all the time. I can probably eat even after I have had my meals. I am never full. Dont know what the problem is. I always thought I was the only person like this in this world. Nice to know I have some mates with similar tendencies. Now I am making a lot of effort and self control to make a difference

Ahhhhh ... yes. :) I totally get that.

I'm lucky I think in that I don't really have a sweet tooth. I like sweets now and then and I love brownies and chocolate chip cookies - I have a hard time saying no to them. But other than that, I don't crave dessert after my meals or have times where I have to have sweet food.

Salty, crunchy, starchy foods, however ... those are my nemesis. :D

I know that once alcohol enters the equasion... I seem to magically turn into a hoover vaccuum and suck up all the food.
