too much cardio?

Hey folks

Its been about a month now that I've added 30 mins of cardio to my routine. I usually stretch, warm up, weight train for about an hour and then do 30 mins cardio. I've seen a definite decrease in body fat but was wondering if this cardio might be inhibiting muscle growth. I train 3 days on 1 day rest and was now thinking of increasing muscle mass. I'm pretty lean at the moment.

I just started on ON Whey Protein, flax seed tabs and I take a multivitamin.

Can too much cardio be a bad thing?

Thanks in advance

This is debateable, has been debated, will be debated. My thoughts is up to 1 hour of cardio 4 days a week should not hurt your muscle mass. There are a few things to look at though, are you trying to seriously gain muscle? If so, take a look at your diet. How long also have you been weight training? If you've only been training a month. You've stopped making your "newbie" gains.

Hmm my diet is actually pretty good. Lots of protein, complex carbs, not a lot of cheats, lots of tuna etc. Protein shake first thing in the morning and right after workout. Solid food, usually tuna, 1-1.5 hours after workout. I try to eat about 5-7 times a day. Three fairly large and at least 2 snacks in between.

Been training now for about 2 maybe three months. Added cardio to routine about a month ago. Used to take creatine and aminos when I was lifting years ago and saw huge gains but don't really want to go back that route just yet.

But, maybe after this batch of Whey is done I'll get some creatine. Other thing hurting me is that I have no training partner so squeezing out those forced reps is kinda hard but I just cheat my way through hehe.

Thanks for the response

Btw just noticed Aevans410 that you do martial arts. What style/school are you doing/with? I've done martial arts for 13 years and been thinking of starting again and opening a school with my former sensei.

well the cardio will be taking alot of your calories, and thats what will be inhibiting your gains. so if your looking for optimal gains, then cutting down the cardio will be a means to that end, overtraining is also another factor in your legs.

i used to do hi impact aerobics every morning, and it took its toll on my knees. why not speak to a sports professional?
