Too much cardio? PS, this board rocks!!!!

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if you can do too much cardio? Probably yes, im guessing, it can eat away muscle mass?????

Here is my routine

Mon, tues, wed, weight training in morning alternating areas of course followed by light cardio
but cardio monday tues, wed night after work as well, im good for about an hour of cardio.

So basically im doing two a days monday tuesday wed.

Thursday is carido only in the am(l hour) Thursday night off

Friday am weight training light cardio, friday night cardio (1hour)
Sat morning weight training followed by cardio,,,,
Sunday off completely

Im also following the diet guidelines from this page.
My results arent coming like I thought they would with this level of exercise and nutrition. Any input.
Thanks a milion everyone!!

That's a good question, and one I've never heard anything about specifically. I would be inclined to say that you can have too much cardio, as you could overtrain just like it's possible to overtrain your muscles when lifting. Might wanna check with a vet around here first, I'm just guessing =)

Too much cardio for what? And what kind of cardio?

I like to MTB and ride my bike in general, as a primary cardio exercise, and I've never had any problems no matter how much I ride, even if it's a seemingly high distance for my level of fitness at a fast pace, and im all exhausted towards the next, with a few hours rest and a solid meal, I feel 100% again.

Biking is something I feel I can do forever. Running on the other hand o_O
So back to my question of what type of cardio and too much for what.

I really don't know what the answer is btw, but a very interesting subject, this is.

training for more than one hour a session begins to be contraidictory rather than be more beneficial. It wont eat away at your protein, im sure you have enough fat in your body to match anything you require.

No matter what always have a at least one day off a week.

How long have you been doing this programme? looks a little heavy dont you think

I have been on it about 6 weeks. As far as the cardio goes, its a combination of running, both treadmill and outdoor, and biking both in they gym and outdoor.

I broke it down so I could see it better.

Monday -Morning(Weight Training + Light Cardio) Night(1 Hour Cardio)
Tuesday -Morning(Weight Training + Light Cardio) Night(1 Hour Cardio)
Wednesday -Morning(Weight Training + Light Cardio) Night(1 Hour Cardio)
Thursday -1 Hour Cardio
Friday -Morning(Weight Training + Light Cardio) Night(1 Hour Cardio)
Saturday -Morning(Weight Training + Light Cardio)
Sunday -Off

I used to have the same problem as you. Unless you just really love your massive amounts of cardio or just have nothing at all to do, that amount of cardio is too high. I used to have the same problem as you, I would workout everday and I never saw the gains I see now.

Why 1 hour cardio? Try 20 min of HIIT, save yourself time. Why everday? You need a break, if you need to work hard at something work hard at nutrition. Working out is the fun/easy part. Quit doing the 2x a day workouts. Stick to 1 session a day, Lifiting then light cardio is fine but not 3 days in a row. Mix it up, try to get 3-4 days cardio + 3 FBW days and eat healthys and you will see better gains with less time wasted.
