Too good to be true?

Hi everyone, this is my first post on any weight loss forum as this is the first time i've really taken losing weight and exercising seriously!

I have lost 7 lbs in 9 days and noticed that I look slimmer or toned or both not sure though.

when I was younger I was quite sporty only recreationally though, but I have never eaten well either and my weight was always quite steady. Then I stopped being active and became really unfit and fat. On an average day I would eat 4 pieces of toast, a cooked lunch, 4+ packs of crisps, sweets, a takeaway, a bowl of cereal and all I would drink is 3-4 cans of coke!

Now all my diet consists of is a normal lunch followed by fish, vegetables, granary bread and maybe a pack of crisps or two, all I drink is flavoured water and fruit juice. Exercise wise I jog for 20 mins, 20 push ups, 20 sit ups, 20 crunches and a few weights, but i'm trying to do a little bit more every other day.

I have cut out takeaways and fizzy drinks completely, but I am using these as an incentive for when I reach a goal.

I just wonder how long I can keep losing this sort of weight and is it healthy?

It really depends on whether you are losing muscle or fat and what your starting weight is. But the recommended loss is 1-2 pounds a week. This is the rate at which you will be most likely to maintain the weight after you lose it. Keep in mind some of what you lost may be water weight and that you must drink a LOT of water. Water helps to break down food and give you the nutrients needed for your body to efficiently burn fat.

Good luck!

Hey,

First of all congrats on the lifestyle changes and welcome to the forum!

Usually the recommendation is 0.5 to 2.0 lbs per week or 1-2% of your overall body weight. Many people experience a more rapid weight loss in the first few weeks, then it often starts to level off. Often, the drastic initial weight loss is actually a high percentage of water that's been 'flushed' out of your body. Eating junk food, takeaway, and other high salt content foods causes your body to retain water, so when you cut those foods out, your body gets rid of some of the excess water.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!

P.
