too fat in Sin City

Greetings, I'm brand new here. I am a 46 year old man from Las Vegas. I was thin and active for the first 35 years of my existence.; an active cyclist, was in the US navy Seabees, hiked alot etc.
However these last ten years have crept up on me and a month ago I found I was up to my heaviest at 225 lbs. My ideal weight is around 165( I am 5'9" with a smaller frame).
I have decided it's time to "get busy" and have already lost 11lbs in three and a half weeks.
Last year Mens Fitness did an article on the Fittest and Fattest citys and guess what? Las Vegas was rated the fattest! No longer will I be counted in as another overfat chunk o' lard standing in line at the casino buffet.:piggy:
My goal is to reach 175 lbs. by next April.
There seem to be so many people here having good success here. It is a great forum.

Heh... ironically I just got back from Las Vegas a few days ago. I couldn't help but notice the huge percentage of overweight people out there. But I can't help but wonder if Las Vegas is getting a bad rap because of all the overweight tourists, or they've determined the actual residents are also a large percentage overweight. Either way... yeah, it was quite an eye opener.

Last year I was one of those visitors adding to the percentage. I'm the same height as you, and my heaviest was a little bit more. I guess I have a small to midsized frame, and its hard carrying around an extra 70ish pounds. Definitely not fun in the desert!

Welcome to the forum! Go check out the diaries section, maybe consider starting one of your own. I've found it helpful to journal, even if I didn't start doing it until I'd already lost about 60 pounds.

Phoenyx, I think that the magazine was concentrating on the residents of Vegas but your right there definately is alot of overweight tourists here too.
It's funny that although a big percentage of the population here is out of shape I would have to guess that some of the US's most fit people live here too. With all the big shows here with acrobatics, dancers, physical performers, various models, actors etc. There are also alot of professional fighters and martial artists that live here too. Its kind of like Los Angeles in that regard.
It is sometimes hard to get outdoor exercise here because for about three to four months it's just too darn hot. But winter, spring ang fall arent too bad.
