Tone workout.

I have lost right at 110 pounds in the last year due to surgery and running on a treadmill every day. Now I have developed shin splints and running is becoming extremely painfull but I want to continue losing weight. Any suggestions on workout /station uses at the gym that will burn a lot of sweat by working other muscle groups like the back , waist and arms?
 
+1 on the eliptical. Also try the bike and rowing machine for cardio.

If you're thinking about transitioning to weight training, I think that's a good idea. Check out the weight training forum and read the stickies, especially the 'weight training 101' and 'feel like posting your inefficient split..' stickies. That's a good starting point.

Have you tried real running? I can't run on a treadmill for more than a few minutes without the muscles on the front of my shins feeling like they're about to tear off the bone. Even at a slow jog. But I have no problems running in the real world.
