Mmm oatmeal with blueberries :) Your food looks delicious - yums! Great job kicking butt at the gym and working away at school like a busy bee :D

Thanks!! You're kicking some serious butt yourself! your diet always looks super yummy and healthy! And your workouts- wow! They're awesome!!! Keep it up girl! We're rockin' it!! :grouphug:

WOW- Look at you go!! Good for you. From your training and your diet you are going to be hitting all your goals very quickly. You are turning into an ATHLETE! A good test for your motivation is if you are tired and you still hit the gym. Great job!! I just came back from Las Vegas and got up early every morning just to run-lol. My wife thought I was nuts but I am in training for a run so I HAD to do it. Believe it or not there are there are actually a lot of people that run early in the morning in Las Vegas ( who'd of thought). The best part was I could run in T shirt and shorts-lol. Better than running in hat, gloves and long underwear for sure. Keep up the good work. You are going to meet and exceed all your goals- I know you are!!

Awww! thank you!!

i can't believe you went running in Las Vegas! I have to kind of agree with your wife- that's insane! BUUUT you're so motivated and determined! It reminds me that I have to keep it up!!

how was your trip anyways!?! I would love to go there!

I can't wait to hear how your run goes! less than 3 weeks!! You're going to do so great!!

Does your wife run!? Or are you going to recruit her as a running buddy? :)

Hey Jill!

Yayyyyyy! I knew you would rock the tank top at the gym. Lol @ the hair flip. I LOVE IT!

Good for you for making the commitment to do the 5km. I KNOW you will run the whole thing.

Girl…you are kicking butt!!! 12-hour work days?! AND going to the gym after?? You are kicking MY butt.

Your diet also looks spot on.

You're doing absolutely amazing, Jill. Always sooo inspirational. <3

Eee! thank you girlie!!!
You push me so much! Reading your workouts makes me motivated to go to the gym and give it my all! :)

We're going so good! I can't wait for the summer- we are going to be working our stuff like nothing else :) :)

I hope you're feeling better! I know how much you love your workouts, and how much they help relax you (they help relax me too!), hopefully you'll be back on your feet in no time!!

Also, with support like you and the others...i HAVE to do the 5k! I don't want to disappoint hehehe! Just the kind of motivation I need to make sure I do it!

Hi Tik,

My wife does run but she started after me and doesn't love it quite so much-lol. She did run one day in Vegas with me but got a bad cold and didn't want to run the other days. She is going to run the 5 K race on the day I run my 10K. They have a 10K run and walk and a 5K run and walk. She entered the 5K run. She is doing great with her running- she has come a long way even though she doesn't feel my love for it-LOL. Vegas was good. I don't know if you have ever been there but it is a madhouse of activity. You can go 24 hours a day- stores are open from 9 am till 11:00 pm. Casinos etc are 24 hours. I actually went down there to see Garth Brooks. He was great- I like some country music but I am more of a classic rock guy-lol. I do like Garth though- he puts on a great show. I was just looking at your post about running outside. I know we live in the Great White North but I have been running outside at least once a week all Winter. If your area of the country is like mine we have a lot of snow. Heard on the news this week that we have received 1.5 M this Winter. Anyway, my point-lol- I actually like running outside better than inside on a track ( I usually run on an inside track, when I am not outside- we have one here at our local gym) or on the treadmill. The coldest I ran outside was -27 with wind. It isn't as bad as you think. I usually wear underarmor, a long sleeve light T shirt, Nylon track pants, Nylon windbreaker, toque, light gloves, and sometimes a neck warmer ( if it is really cold). I am cold before I start but once I am running your body warms right up. You should try a short run outside and see how it feels. Believe me I can run farther and faster outside ( no matter how cold it is) that I can on a treadmill or inside on the track. It was nice to run in Vegas in shorts and T Shirt though. I am looking forward to my race. I am still losing weight- down to 185 with 10 pounds left till I reach my goal. I should reach that well before Summer - which will be nice. Stay motivated- you are doing a really great job!!

WOW...I am SO glad it's Friday! I am completely POOPED!!! I don't think I can do another day!

I have such a long day...I have work from 8-12 (which, I'm not working at all here), a meeting from 12:1:30, PT appointment from 2-3, and class from 4-7 ...I'm sooo tired! I don't want to go to my class tonight..it's a painful class that completely drains me - Advanced Epidemiology ... kill me...please :svengo:

Yesterday I did a bunch of cardio before my PT appointment...which was SO bad...i was feeling good and energized, but half way through I was so tired, I kind of gave up...I actually feel like I was pretty pathetic...regardless, I'm taking that emotion today, and going to work extra hard with my appointment this afternoon- regardless of how tired I am! I'm actually a zombie today. Yup. I've literally turned into a mindless being that eats and eats...except I've been making sure I don't eat and eat hehehe ... I just can't get over how pooped I am!

This weekend I have my last paper (for a week) to do. So I think I'm going to take it easy, relax, and make sure I catch up on my sleep! I also have a really good book! it's been torture knowing I have it, and don't have time to read it! so i'm looking forward to laying in bed and reading this weekend! hehehe

Yesterday during my workout, when i was feeling soo tired, pooped, and rotten, all I wanted to do was get a bottle of wine and relax at home. THe gym is next to the liquor store, so on the way home it would have been so easy to stop in and get wine...but I didn't! I said, "Jill, what do you want more? The wine? Or to be happy, healthy and thin this summer?" ...that totally made me smarten up, go home, make some healthy soup, and forget about the wine! hehehe...the soup I made is so yummy, and very filling! I've made enough to feed a small army, so i'm glad I like it!

Oy! I can't wait to smash out a good appointment this afternoon! I really need it. I had my reassessment yesterday...according to their scale I weigh +4lbs more than my scale at home. my pt said the scale here says she's heavier too...so i don't know which one to believe. Regardless, my bodyfat % went down a bit more than 1%, I gained a pound of muscle too! and I had lost +5lbs since our last assessment - which...I would agree with. I had put on a pound or two this past week...everyday I weighed myself and I was at 194/196 so that would have put me at -5 lbs or so from my last assessment. However, when i stepped on the scale this morning, it said 192! wahhooo! I'm a little leery to take it as my actual weight- but i'm happy...i felt like I was at a bit of a plateau, but i think i got over that hump and will see changes. I just wish the scale at the gym reflected my weight. I actually don't know which is right- but I mean, i'm going to have the tendency to believe the lower number! LOL The scale I use is actually really old...so it's probably not accurate! I also have a hard time seeing the numbers...I think I'm finally going to have to invest in a real one...but if I do, what if it says I'm heavier? hehehehe...I like this one right now! it's soothes my ego! I had also lost 5 inches in total! I really feel like I'm losing the weight. I notice a lot of differences. My legs are looking great! I notice a huge difference in the cellulite there! My arms and boobs are smaller! And my belly OMG!! My pants are falling off of me! My pooch is going down! I feel like my pants are riding so low, then I realize it's because I don't have a giant guy there holding them up! LOL

So things are good! I'm not going to let the numbers define my loss :biggrinjester::biggrinjester: what is important is that I feel it, and I notice it, and I'm happy! That's the real goal of this!!

I hope you all have a great day! I imagine I will be surfing this site during my class tonight! So I'll have time to catch up on all your lovely entries in your journals!! :)

Take care! Happy Friday all!

Congrats on the loss! You are so close to your goal! that's fantastic! Certainly all your hard work and training are paying off!

It's great that your wife has started too, and that she's entering into a 5k!! Good for her! I can't wait to hear how she does! it's nice to know that there are people out there who pick it up, (don't fall in love right away), and are motivated to do a 5k! that's fantastic! I'm sure you're an excellent mentor/motivator for her! You've encouraged me so much, that I can't imagine how great you are with her :)

I have never been there- although I would love to go! I hear it's insane! That you can stay indoors all day, and it still feels like it's afternoon! I think that's so interesting! I'm not sure if it's a place for me! I feel like I would go insane from all the shows, shopping, food, and gambling! I would want to do it all, and come back with no money! hehehe!

That's great that you guys saw garth! I hear he's an awesome performer! I imagine his show was pretty spectacular!! I think that's a smart way to do it too! Vegas would be a great concert trip! So many big acts go there, and I imagine they're even more amazing there with all the show biz that goes on there anyways :)

I can't wait until i run outside- my biggest obstacle is myself! I'm so conscious that I can't do it or that I won't have the stamina- i know it's silly, and I shouldn't, but I'm my own worst enemy!! I am using the winter excuse to my advantage, even though i could be running outside! it is super cold here (-30C with windchill, and it's a damp cold since we're on the ocean!) ...I'm hoping that running on the treadmill will spike my confidence enough to do it outside! :) I really shouldn't be so concerned! i should push myself and not let my own insecurities bog me down!

have a great weekend cowboy!! And once again! thanks for the great post! :grouphug:

You are right when you say the biggest obstacle is yourself-lol. Let me tell you a story-lol. When I went from 5K to 10K I had a hell of time once my 5 K was done to keep running. My body and mind wanted to stop. I couldn't break through that 5K wall. So what I did was I changed from distance to time. I knew I ran 5K in about 23 or so minutes so I started running 30 minutes. I find when I am running outside that running one way for 15 minutes and then running back for the other 15 got me past that mind block of 5KM. When I ran for time I didn't really know how far I was running until I was all done. Once I got past that 5 KM then I did 6( increasing the time each week) and so on. A couple of weekends ago- I ran for 55 minutes straight- after adding 10 minutes of running to my outside runs each week. I then got in my car and drove where I ran- know what- I ran the whole 10K in 55 minutes. You should have seen me- you'd have thought I ran the Boston Marathon-LMAO. I then figured out what most runners know that running is definitely a mind sport. You mind determines how far you want to run not your body. Your body will keep going as long as your mind says it can. Weird but it is SO true. Now I wonder what my mind says about the possibility of me running a half or God forbid a whole marathon-LOL. Have a great weekend.

Hey Tik,

Ive been slowly reading your diary up to date (havent done all of it yet lol!!!) and you are very motivational!!!!!! With lots of get up and go.

Well done on getting over your plateu and getting to 192! thats amazing!!!

Cannot wait to hear about your training in running, as soon as ive lost around half of what i want to, im going to start running, not at the moment though as i dont want to damage my joint lol

Hugs Green x

Yeah it's nice that he runs but the week I sid my first c25k session on the treadmill he got on the treadmill next to me and ran 5k just like that!!

I hated him right then!!!! Grrrr

yep I am red faced hot sweaty when running - it's not just you. I am now trying to focus on looking like one of hhe really toned girls instead of hating how big I am next to them!!! (not the super skinny ones though - eeek!!

I am impressed by the walking past the wine determination!! Alcohal is still causing me issues!! I was thinking I may give it up for a month then remembered I'm hoing out clubbing next weekend for the first time this yr and I cannot do that sober!! So think I will give it up from 14th!!

Your doing really well Hun, keep going!! XX

Hey Tik. I just completed a real long distance achievement....I read your entire diary this morning!! With a cup of tea...(needed the stamina!!).

So, first off - well done hon, you have come so far and are doing SO well. It sounds like after 5 years of hell, this is such a positive step for you and a new phase of life. Enjoy the first couple of years of your PhD too - these are the times to explore and think and go to conferences and for me were about new fresh directions.

As for the 5k - I did the couch to 5k program back in spring last year when I was a similar weight to you. The first couple of weeks are tough but it gets easier. For me, once I was running say 8mins without stopping, I just found it easier and easier from there on in. I think it is a mental thing...somewhere in my diary, you can read that exact week or two..one day I just stayed on the treadmill and did 12 mins and I freaked out!! Then the next time I just said how far can I go...and did like 16 mins...then 20 mins...then 30 mins...then I stopped the program and just started running outdoors. Once i was over the mental stop of watchign the clock and thinking I couldn't do it...you just get into a complete rhythm of running. The first 5-10 mins of ANY run are always the hardest then your body just does what it does! I now run for an hour and 15 mins or so...and usually do 8km plus...I am VERY SLOW!!! LOL but I don't stop, hills don't bother me, nor does rain or traffic, I just keep on plodding. I love the way that all the troubles and problems or theories just fall through my mind and work themselves out and I end up feeling so much more "sorted" at the end a run.

I've not run any races though but signed up for a 10km run in May...which is a bit scary - not because I don't think I can run it...I can do the distance, just I'm quite slow and lots of people from work are running it in a team. That's what I'm going to have to work on for the next 2 months!

Start running outside though, with some good music and run to songs rather than time once you are beyond 8 or 10 mins on the C25k program - it makes the time fly by and there's SO much more to look at - I thought I'd get bored not having a TV to watch but outside is so much better.

Anyway, back to you! 193...the 180s will be there before you know it. And is a really interesting "decade" in terms of lbs as you will start to actually, from some angles and in some clothes, feel a normal size!

Where are you coming to in the UK for your conference? Is it London based? I used to come to the states for the Annual Association of Geographers conference each year but I left academia and went into the financial sector instead so it seems like a distant world now!

Thanks Katie!!!! :) Confidence is hard to build! But totally worth it!!

I would LOOOVE to push each other to keep up with the running program!! I hope I start to like it! I'm still finding it not too enjoyable- but all in good time, right?!!

Is it getting warming where you are!? I hear running outside is much better, but a lot different than a treadmill!!

I'll be excited when i can get the confidence to run outside :hurray:

Hopefully the love for running will come. i guess for some people, it never does... which saddens me. lol definitely give it time. i found i started to love it once i was seeing results in my endurance. haha i'd come home and be like "MOM!! MOOOM! I RAN FOR 20 MINUTES.... STRAIGHT!!!" hahaha i hope it comes for you. would love a virtual running buddy. lol

its warmer today here. its topping out at +6 celcius today, which is my running threshold. lol but its raining, so no outdoors activities for me today. soon though, hopefully. it is defintiely harder to run outside. i notice that propelling yourself on the stationary ground, as opposed to the moving treadmill, makes me tired faster. i cant seem to make it as far/long as i can on the treadmill. but it is more interesting, being actually moving, as opposed to running in place haha

Take care! Happy Friday all!

I am away for a few days and have to catch up on like 4 pages of posts :p haha such a popular page. its amazing! haha

your push for yourself with the wine is amazing. i am going to steal this question and use it on myself, if you don't mind lol. ive been having a tough time with cheating on my diet lately, and this question just really puts it all back into perspective. awesome.

and AWESOME job on the results with your assessment!! thats a really big achievement, especially to be feeling it in your clothes and daily living. you should be super proud. 5 inches lost is great. you are doing so amazingly well and are so inspirational. :) keep it up girlfriend *high five*

Hey Tik - finally had some time to read (skim) through your diary. You are super motivating - especially reading the posts in ohter diaries. I had to come check yours out. I've been through a range of emotions...lol.

was really upset with your friends...not acting like friends....but then totally uplifted reading that you had the courage to stand up for yourself. GOOD FOR YOU!!!

Your ex sounds like a very negative spot in your life. I had one of those (different experience tho) - my friend and I go with the saying "Time, Everything Takes Time" - that was so true of that relationship. I never thought I would heal...over time, I not only healed, I began to truly feel sorry for him - I now remember the good times we shared (there were lots of those too) - I can no longer remember the really bad, hurtful times - and wish him the best.

Keep up the great job....I shall be checking in regularly for a pick-me-up.

I am sorry I have to make a quick stop by here tonight!!

I have so many wonderful comments to respond too! Reading them this morning motivated me to get up and go to the gym! you guys really do make a difference!!

I've been working so hard, and eating what I thought was right....but yet I can't seem to beat the scale.....

I don't know if it's because TOM is coming up...or if I"m actually not eating as healthy as I think...

time to buckle down and really start counting the calories..... :(

just a drive by right now, as I'm so peeved with the scale......I might toss end up stomping on it, and then tossing it out the window.

Your food looks so healthy Tik! And wow what exercise; you're a machine woman! Ha!

It's a shame you're still hovering in the 190s. I think it's time like these - where maybe you're not getting results that you think you should - that you've really got to be strong and just hang in there. I know it's tempting but I think pushing yourself even further can actually be counterproductive. You've got to save something for later when you REALLY need it haha. You might just be better off keeping on with what you're already doing (because it looks GREAT!) and being patient.

But of course it's about what feels right for you!

I hope the next week or so gives you the loss you want!

Keep it up, you're doing soooooooooooo well! You're a real inspiration!

Just hang in there!

Hot damn girl! March 5th's exercise log... day one of the c25k PLUS all that other work! 30 push ups?! What the hell woman, you are DOMINATING these work outs!!!

Your eating looks good too but I think the reason why you are stuck in this range right now is because you might not be eating enough or at the right times. I'm sure it's different every day, but March 5th's eating log should have been bigger considering the workout you did. Your body needs those calories to burn! Try aiming for a 200 cal snack between breakfast/lunch and lunch/dinner. Maybe another thing you could try is changing your breakfast choices. Try eggs if you have time - I love cooking egg whites and putting them on an english muffin with cheese. It's my version of McDonald's "egg mcmuffin" :D

Hang in there - we all get stuck sometimes and plateau but you will get through it eventually. I remember being stuck in a plateau for at LEAST a few months and I was eating perfectly/working out perfectly, and the one week where I had a crappy weekend and ate junk food, the next weigh in was when my weigh just dropped - sometimes you need to confuse your body!

Keep up the hard work! You're doing great :D
