Tiredness

Hi everyone!

This is my first posting and am very happy to have found a place to post questions, share experiences and get some great support from people who are experiencing the same things I am!

I have been dieting and exercising for just over 5 weeks now. I have quite a bit of weight to lose, 70-80 lbs, ideally. I have been doing a 1200-1400 calorie a day diet. My exercise routine is usually doing 40 - 60 mins cardio such as treadmill, elliptical or recumbant bike five days a week. On two days of those five days, I have been doing strength training as well. I have consulted a personal trainer who has guided me as to form, repetitions, etc.

Within the last couple weeks, I have been so fatigued DURING my weight training, almost to the point where I could just close my eyes and doze off! Just wondering if anyone has an idea as to how avoid feeling the fatigue. I can't believe it's "normal" as I was always told that exercise is supposed to rejuvenate a person?

Any ideas or input?

Thanks!

Hi And Welcome to the WLF!

Good for you for taking the steps towards reachcing your goal!

Five weeks is a great start!

You didn't mention how tall you are, or how much you weigh. Could 1200-1400 calories be too low for you? If you'd like to lose 70-80 pounds, I'm sure your maintenance calories are much higher then that, and perhaps upping your daily calories you won't be so tired.

Also, how are you sleeping at night?

Again, welcome to the forum and I look forward to getting to know you!

I'm 46 years old, 5'5" and weigh 224. I have so far lost 13 lbs in the five weeks since I've made my life changes.

I usually sleep very well, and try to get at least 7 hours a night. I wonder if my fatigue may possibly be caused because of something lacking in my diet? I try to get a good variety of all the food groups every day. I have just been hoping that it would stop soon as my fitness level increases. I was hoping there would be an easy answer, but I guess I'll have to break down and see my doctor just to be sure.

Thanks for the reply!

Seeing your doctor is always a good thing.

You might also want to check out or they are both sites that track your calories, nutrition & fitness.

If you're not getting enough calories, I think that could be an important factor in being tired.

Best of luck to you
