Hello everyone I found this forum and hope I can get motovation from others as well as give it. I am at 297, 6'4" and 45 yrs old. I have three bulging discs in my lower back that the doctors say if I lose weight they may heal themselves. I have a pretty high stress job that is mostly a desk job. I feel tired all the time and just today I couldnt play tag with my 7 yr old daughter due to me becoming really winded. So to say that isnt depressing would be lying. I have a goal weight of 215-220lbs. Going to start with weighing myself monday morning and then doing to do weight training 3 days a week and try cardio 5-6 days a week. Hope we can help each other in the forum. Thanks, Dan

I was in the same boat a few months ago (July or August)...I am 5'11 and was 277lbs...and in the beginning of fall, I started being thirsty at the end of the day...it got to the point where I was drinking 3-4 liters of water (about a gallon) each day...I went to the doctor to ask about the thirst and found out that I had developed type 2 diabetes...so they had me do a physical, that's when I found out my weight is now 256lbs (I knew I had lost weight because my pants were getting pretty loose, but I didn't realize it was 20lbs)...so drinking lots of water helps, I think it was curbing my appetite replacing snacking with water drinking...so my suggestion is that every time you get the urge to snack, have a big glass of water...I would be lying if I said it worked every time, but I have some pre-made salad in a container in the fridge that I can just get a bowl and grab a handful of salad and have a better choice for a snack...

You may also want to try to find some exercise that you enjoy doing...just saying weight training and cardio sounds right, but you may find that you loose interest...for cardio try taking you daughter to the park and playing with her...swings, playing tag, climbing on the monkey bars, etc...those are cardio exercises...weight training is something that I would maybe delay a little, until you start noticing some gains being made in the weight loss dept...it's easy to get a little too gung-ho and start "working out"...over doing it will cause you to need to take extended breaks for your muscles to heal...it's really hard to get back into it after a few "healing cycles"...

For me, I am working on eating right & portion control (my big issue is snacking when I get home and over eating at dinner)...the problem with "dieting" is that most people view it as a temporary change, and once they reach their goal weight they feel they have made it and relax, or let go...and most "dieters" gain the weight back and then some, which starts the nasty and unhealthy cycle of the yo-yo diet...you have to view your diet as a change for life...so find some recipes that you enjoy, and watch your portions...

I just found out about my diabetes a few weeks ago, so I am just figuring a lot of this stuff out...it is amazing what will affect your blood sugar...most of the foods that I really enjoy eating are on the "try to avoid that..." list...but I will figure something out...

Anyway, I hope my input helps...

Good Luck!!

Later.
