Tips and tricks to survive the holidays?

The pieces of nougat from Toblerones always got stuck in my teeth, it drove me nuts. I never bought coffee table-sized chocolate bars for myself, but they were usually given to me at Christmastime by my evil cow of a mother-in-law. She probably thought since I was obese, I'd appreciate a few lbs of Cadbury's Dairy Milk. Uhhh...no.

Yepp, same here. And, if you get the big bars, it's impossible to break them into pieces, so you have to kinda chew through the base to get a piece off, and when you bite through you ram the top of it up your nose....*lol* Billy Connolly was right, Toblerone is a violent sweetie!! *lol*
And my m-i-l does the same thing all the time, and I told her now not to get any kind of sweets for any member of the family anymore. Both my husband and I are fat as hell, and my stepson gets hyperactive if he gets anything that has sugar in. He's got enough problems as it is, doesn't need that on top of it. So there is no reason to get that stuff in the first place

Sweets were never the problem with me. It's savories, and shops like Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury's were just horrible at Christmas with those deliciously evil holiday treats. People who say the food in England is bad are insane; it's the only thing I really miss about England. The food was fantastic. I have the cellulite to prove it!

It's both for me. I love chocolate...don't like crisps and stuff like that though. As for the English food...there is good stuff, there is bad stuff. The thing is that most of the things that are good, and considered English food, aren't actually English at all....*lol*...I mean, fish and chips? Fries with vinegar on them?? :puke: And that's a traditional English thing!
They have, however, some really dangerous things over here....loads of sweet puddings, chocolate and caramel sauces, good ice cream, Indian food (with loads of cream and things), chinese food and so on. The only thing I miss is really good Italian food...even though right now it is probably a good thing that there isn't any of that available....*lol*

Fish and chips are GOOD! :hurray: I used to make them at home; there was a particular brand of frozen fish fillets that I could bake in the oven and oh my god, were they good. Combine that with some nice thick-cut chips and some mushy peas with malt vinegar and I was in heaven. Seriously.

Most of what I liked in England was "ethnic" food, but I also liked some stodgy English favorites like bacon butties and beef stew with dumplings. Also, the English are extremely creative with sandwich fillings. I've never seen those ingredients combined anywhere else. I'd also never seen a french fry sandwich (chip butty to the English) before I went to the UK. That was a step too far for me; I never did eat one. I like sandwiches and I like french fries, but not together.
