Time to take that 53 pound shell off.

Hi Guys&Gals,

I'm 29 years old and have managed to put on 53 pounds over the past 5 years.
It started during a low point in my life where I sort of withdrew from everyone and padded myself up with 53pounds of emotional safety. In hindsight I should definitely have spoken to a professional rather than stuffing my face, but at the time I didn't realize how depressed I was. Gaining weight just seemed to make things a little better at the time.
Time does seem to heal all wounds and I am happy to report that it's finally time to chip away at that 53 pound shell and start catching up on the life that I've been missing out on. :)

I was a bit of a fitness freak prior to putting on the weight.
For the past couple of months I've been half-heartedly trying to lose it, but I have no accountability right now so it's all too easy to just postpone it a bit longer.
This is where this diary comes in. :) I'm hoping that writing it all down will give me the week-to-week accountability that I need, and the push to keep going during tough periods.

I don't think my challenge will be in the eating and exercise part, but rather pushing through busy weeks where I'd *like* to just put the weight loss aside until the busy period blows over.

My Diary will be updated with pictures each week.
While I do find it confronting to look at photos of myself at this weight, being able to see the changes along the way will hopefully help with the incentive to keep going.

I'm looking forward to reading everyone else's current blogs and to offer encouragement along your journey aswell. :)

How much weight do you want to lose?
-- 53 pounds.

What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
-- January 1st, ready to start a new year.

How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)?
-- Eating properly and exercise

How realistic is your goal?
-- The numbers I think are realistic. The challenge for me will be pushing forward during busy weeks.

When will you start?
-- Today!

Here are some before/after pics of myself. (they're supposed to be the other way around, right? :) )
My goal is to get back to the weight I was before things went sour.

Each week I'll be taking body measurements as well as weighing myself.
I find this better than relying just on the number on the scales.

My starting chart is as follows:

Hey! Welcome to the forum. Just wanted to say, great job on making the first choice. Keeping a diary can be really helpful. Do you have any diet plans, or exercise plans?

Hi Loch, thank you for welcome! :)

My diet plans are to implement a daily calorie limit.
I have an idea of the foods I'll be eating but haven't yet adjusted them based on calories.

Unfortunately I have some digestion problems so my options are limited.
Breakfast is usually cereal. A mix of good ol fibre all-bran, barley and amaranth.
Lunch is a chicken salad.
Dinner is either something with eggs, or chicken and steamed vegies, or a lentil curry with brown rice, or porridge.
A kiwifruit or orange will be thrown in throughout the day, depending on what numbers I come up with on the calorie count. :)

I've been working with my doctor for years to identify the foods that make me sick.
We've managed to keep me going with a lot of roughage/fibre and minimal processed foods.
I've been eating the above for years with no dramas, but I got fat by tucking into the worst kind of fast food imaginable, whenever I was depressed.

For exercise, I play sport most mornings before work. Wasn't enough to stop me getting fat though.
From this point forward I'll be going to the gym each night to do mostly weight training after work. Working on different body areas each time, and on "off" days I'll just do some cardio so that I get into the routine of going whether I feel like it or not.
