Time to Re-motivate!

I've been mainly a lurker on this site since Mar/09, and have found it to be tremendously helpful (and entertaining). I do believe that it played a big role in helping me go from 175 lbs to my current weight of 153 lbs. (I'm 5'8"). My original goal was to reach 150 lbs and re-assess whether I wanted to take it further.

I have been around 150 lbs most of my adult life, so I am comfortable here. However, I now feel like it's time to get out of my rut and get even healthier (not to mention possibly feeling comfortable in a bikini for the 1st time ever.) I lost the first 20 lbs, now I would like to start "round 2". My new goal is to reach 135 lbs using the same technique that took me this far. Namely: tracking calories and walk/ jogging 4 miles at least 3 times/week. My husband and I are also going to start weight training together.

I plan to use this diary as handy way to keep track of my calories, and the things that I have found to be motivating and de-motivating. I will be recording what I eat on a daily (or near-daily) basis. Not very entertaining for other readers, but I hope it will help me with my goal :)

Hello Scorpiogal, welcome to the Diary Section. OW OW!!!!

Congratulations on the 20 lbs down!!,

and thanks for your tips/reps along my way. :)

Day 1 Summary

My first day of calorie counting went well in the sense that I didn't eat any junk. I am unfortunately feeling a little under the weather though, so I wasn't able to eat as many calories as I should have. I felt very naseaous right around dinner time...hoping it's just a minor bug and not pregnancy! LOL. My goal is 1200- 1500 per day. Here's the food summary for Aug 12th:

Oatmeal w/skim milk and 1/2 cup blueberries: 231 cal
Roast chicken legs (2- approx 6 ozs): 320 cal
1 cup red grapes: 110 cal
V8 veggie shot: 35 cal
Grilled cheese w/sprouted grain bread and non-fat cheese: 320 cal
1 cup chopped broccoli: 30 cal

Daily total = 1046 cal

Hello Scorpiogal,

I know you'd said you've been lurking around the site, and maybe you'd picked up that you can also eat more and still lose. :)

You've most likely been going by 1200-1500 though for the drop of those first 20lbs and maybe that's still going quite well for you?

If you did ever get into a bind, this is something I've found helpful;

CW x ( 14, 15, 16/ calories per pound) : Maintenance - 20-30%: Cut Calories Stage.

Hey :)

I most definitely did pick up the fact that you can eat more and lose. However, my doctor has actually said that at 150 lbs, 1500 cal is quite reasonable as long as I get the required nutrients. (Plus my bloodwork shows extremely healthy levels of everything.) I don't feel hungry, and I know that in some cases I am underestimating my daily intake. My whole life I have been a very light eater, it's the way I was made.

Anyhoo- the 1500 guideline has worked well for me so far, and when I took a month off of counting calories I maintained the weight loss with no effort whatsoever.

Thanks for the advice/info, it's always good to sit back and look at things with fresh perspective.

Day 2...I have no problem with keeping the motivation so far. To be fair, I didn't really have trouble with that before either, I just kind of got off track with all the summer festivals in my area (all of them involving fried food...yummy).

The food summary:
Oatmeal w/skim milk and 1/2 cup blueberries: 231 cal
Yogurt: 80 cal
V8 veggie shot: 35 cal
Smart Ones Ravioli Florentine: 250 cal
Banana: 105 cal
Roast chicken (3 ozs): 160 cal
Toast (sprouted grain) w/peanut butter: 380 cal
Carrots: 35 cal
Bud Light Lime (mmmm...limey goodness): 116 cal

Daily total: 1392 cal

I'm going to be away for the weekend with the hubby (my daughter will be with grandma. Hooray!) I won't be counting calories, but I will be avoiding the really bad junk. Back to my journal next week :)

Well...I'm back after a weekend of somewhat reckless eating. It always amazes me how freaking FANTASTIC I feel when I get back to eating well after a couple days of not. You'd think that would be motivation enough! Tomorrow is my 1st weekly weigh-in after re-starting the calorie counting. Hopefully my weekend didn't completely sabatoge the effort :)

Monday's calorie total:
Oatmeal w/skim milk and raspberries (fresh): 220 cal
yogurt: 80 cal
banana: 105 cal
Chicken soup (campbells's soup at hand): 110 cal
1/2 chocolate chip muffin: 178 cal
Chicken breast: 250 cal
small potatoe w/margarine: 200 cal
Carrots: 35 cal
2 beers (I know, I know...not good, but the situation called for it! LOL): 290 cal

Total: 1468 cal

Hello Scorpiogal,

I hope you had an awesome time away on your weekend!

Your meals look pretty good. I like that you keep it so simple & a healthy balance! :)

I hope your weigh in goes well for you.

Yay! A very successful 1st week.

Woo hoo! The weigh in went fantastic...I am down to exactly 150 lbs. I did a little happy dance this morning. I must have been carrying some water weight around, but I'm still ecstatic :D

Tuesday's totals:
Oatmeal w/skim milk and raspberries (fresh): 220 cal
yogurt: 80 cal
V8 Veggie shot: 35 cal
Smart One (chicken fetticini): 290 cal
1/2 muffin: 178 cal
Turkey burger patty: 190 cal
2 oz havarti (cheese...my downfall, but so worth it!): 240 cal
1 cup cherries (fresh): 100 cal

Total: 1333 cal

I'm really not a veggie person, which is clear from reviewing my journal. Must make more of an effort in that area.

I got sick of my baggy butt jeans yesterday, so I took myself down to Old Navy so I could have at least one pair of nice fitting jeans (at least you only pay $25/ pair, so it doesn't matter if they're too big soon.) To my complete delight, I found that the size 8 actually fit me perfectly...it's been YEARS since I could fit into a size 8. (Like over 10 years.) Commenced with another happy dance :) I feel so fantastic, and so full of confidence right now!

Wednesday's summary:
Oatmeal w/skim and raspberries: 220
Smart One: 250
Yogurt: 80
V8: 35
1 oz havarti: 120
Slow cooker chili (yum): around 600
PB on whole wheat: 330

Total: 1635 cal

I went for one of my 4 mile walks last night...I live in the country so it's very lovely and peaceful. The sun was getting low on the horizon, the air smelled sweet from ripening wheat, and it was sooo beautiful out. I love walking this time of year.

Thursday summary:
Oatmeal w/skim milk & raspberries: 220
Chili leftovers: 600
Yogurt: 80
V8: 35
Pizza (Delissio): 510

Total: 1445 cal

I had a great weekend- kept the junk out of my diet (didn't record what I ate, but definitely kept a tally in my head.) I got lots of exercise. I'm sore as he** today from doing lunges. I know they're effective, but man are they hard!! For me at least. But I would really like to see some tightening of the rear/thigh area, so I will persevere! I'm psyched and ready for another week...feeling fantastic and highly motivated :D

Hi Scorpiogal!
I'm your height and i have the same weight loss goals as you :) Congrats on your weight loss tooo! Amazing that you are able to maintain your weight without much effort-i hope i can say that about myself some day.

Must have been such a nice surprise to fit into a size 8! Way to go!!:hurray:

You're doing such a great job with your food choices-keep it up!!

Thanks for the positive comments Nightrunner! I wish you luck and a neverending supply of motivation in your journey.

I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to maintain my weight...I did weigh myself every other day to keep on track, and it only ever fluctuated by about 3 pounds up and down. It gives me hope for the long term! Gonna get rid of my fat pants tomorrow :D

The last few days have been spent taking care of my sick little girl...but she's on the mend now thank goodness. I've been keeping a tally of my calories, but not writing down what I eat. Now that I'm back on track, I'm not finding it necessary to be such a stickler :)

I did my 2nd weekly weigh-in....happy to say that I'm down to 148.8! Things are going fantastic! I haven't been in the 140's since the time I got a kidney infection in college and couldn't eat for a week. LOL. It's good to be HEALTHY and at this weight. I also took a new head-shot of myself and am struck by the difference in my face. I look like a different person (compared to my high weight of 175 lbs). Decided to change my avatar to better reflect the new me.

Congrats!! I can totally see a difference between this headshot and the last one :)

It's no fun being sick, hope your daughter is feeling better

Hi, Scorpiogal!

Posted in another thread of yours so I thought I'd drop in and say hi.

Looks like things are going well for you.

Have you thought about adding resistance training to your exercise plans? It is great for both fat loss and making your body look good - which would be useful for your swimsuit aspirations.
