Time to find healthy..

Finally back online! We had a tree come down last week which was on the verge of our neighbors property, and it took out the watermains and phone line. A day and a bit without water was doable, but we've only just gotten back online... my poor email box is over flowing.

I am really proud - I got through my first week without added sugar. Winning! I am still sitting at 110.9kg, but I am not overly sad. It hasn't gone up, so I'm happy with that. The sugar headaches have subsided greatly, my pangs for sugar have reduced, and I'm back in the kitchen *gasp*. Yesterday I went on a cooking spree ready for my TA-ing job this week, I made lunches (my own spin on spag bowl, with a tonne of veggies (more veggies than meat!) and whole grain spiral pasta), and muffins (sugar free apple, sultanas, cinnamon + honey muffins (and I threw a LOT of fruit in there), and lemon muffins). 3 batches of muffins later, I was done. I threw half in the freezer, a few in the fridge, and a few on the side - they're super yummy! Although quite dense, so I think I could get away with half of one at a time.

Now I know muffins aren't exactly on the go-to list of healthy treats, but with every workshop my boss puts on a super delicious sugary spread of cakes, biccies and choccies. I *knew* I'd be tempted to have something with my cuppa while chatting to the students, so I made my own. It's not perfect, but I feel it's a heck of a lot better than the sugar-filled stuff on the table. I took 2 muffins, and I'm glad I did. I skipped breaky this morning (I wasn't feeling very well), and by 3pm I was needing a pick me up. Muffins to the rescue! I didn't even burn them - I'm quite proud. Even o/h is eating them, so that's better than him reaching for the chocolate (I hope). I have some bananas needing to be used, so might make some banana bread to freeze as well. At least I can grab and go.

Exercise has been........ok. I have gone for a couple of walks, I took the dog for a couple of laps of the oval yesterday, and have walked almost 10,000 steps today. I know 10k steps should be the 'norm', but we're getting there.

Aiming to do another 10,000 steps tomorrow, and the rest of the week. I am hoping to have a job trial next week (to supplement my current work.. Christmas isn't far off!), so hopefully that'll step up the exercise as well. Fun times ahead! My belly most certainly isn't as boofy as it was, still jiggly, but not bloated as much - winning! My face feels less puffy as well, and I'm sleeping better. I might not be shedding weight so fast, but I feel better. And that is ultimately my goal.

Good to have you back Beanie! Great work getting everything on track and resisting the sugardemons both at home and at work; your muffins sound yummy :p

You reminded me to take one of my homemade muffins out of the freezer today, so thank you! I've been neglecting them. I find that I don't even really enjoy the muffins that usually come in a big spread that much, but I eat them anyway.

As the saying goes, if you fail to plan you plan to fail so I don't see how making a weeks worth of pre-portioned meals, muffins or not, can fail you. You are ready to go hand to hand combat with temptation. That's awesome. Glad you're back online!!

Thanks for the warm welcome LaMaria! You'll be happy to know I didn't touch a single slice of cake, be tempted by a corrupted cookie, or nibble on any sugary evils. Win!

Oaks - how were your muffins? What flavors? I need to make some more over the weekend to freeze. I would have had enough for next week, but a certain o/h found them...

Kaplooie - thank you. I really needed to hear that, and I love that quote! I shall remember that. Muffins were a hit, I was a bit 'blah' about them on Tuesday, but am loving them now (much nicer after they've been chilled). I don't even want a piece of cake.. woohoo!

Haven't touched any sugar while at the course, I've been really proud of my efforts. There are moments where I want to moosh the entire cake into my face, but I know I'll regret that (both calorie/sugar wise, and reputation wise). My brain is slowly going from 'GIVE ME SUGAR' to 'Give me something nutritious'. My sugar headaches have subsided a lot, I'm reaching for some sultana's for a 'sugar hit' in the arvo, and I'm down another .5kg. Exciting times! Mum says my face looks less puffy, and I feel less puffy all over. My stomach is still wobbling, but now it's just wobble, not a puffy wobble. I'm sticking to my meals and it's sooo much easier to just grab from the freezer the night before, throw it in the fridge, then grab + go. I think this whole 'meal prep' thing might catch on ..

Being prepared is half the battle BB. Congrats on losing another .5kg! Very exciting times! :D Well done! Every time you choose something healthy stop & think about it & be proud of yourself. You now have a team & we are in this together. GO US! xo Cate

Well done beating temptation during your course! I hate hate hate food prep, but it makes life so much easier when time is limited.

Good morning all! Been a while, absolutely flat out with a second job + setting up a new business *squee*
As of this morning my weight is back down to 109... point something. I forget. I was so excited to finally be under that damn 110! Woohoo! I think my new job (cleaning) has really aided in shifting some of this weight. I am getting more comments that my face is looking thinner, and my pants are starting to feel different.. most certainly starting to feel a bit more roomy around the top. Winning!
Stomach is most certainly less bloated - I can no longer see my stomach past my boobs (when standing). Although considering the size of my boobs I'm not sure if that still counts as a win..

As much as I am enjoying my new job (as much as one can enjoy cleaning a strangers house..), my back is killing me. I am thankful I only do 1-2 days a week, any more any I don't think I'll hack it. Sciatica played up strongly last night, which made feeding the horses all that bit harder (especially since the wind stirred them up, and it was like trying to keep a helium balloon grounded). Resting today with work at home, and actively ignoring the house that needs a desperate clean (bit like the mechanics car..).

Hi BB. :D to being under 110! Congrats on the new business, the drop in weight, the loose pants, the thinner face :D :D .....your own housework can just wait! xoC

Thanks Cate! I am over the moooooooon! 109.2 baby, yeehar! I swear my hips have changed shape..
Might have to get some pics!

Hmm, up to 109.9 this morning. But that's still under 110, so I'm hanging on to that win ;)
I rode my horse yesterday, something I haven't done in months. So much for a nice, quiet stroll on my 26 yr old.. she was acting like a right trolly huffing and puffing her way down the road. Can only laugh, at least she's still feeling awesome. Not feeling too sore (yet) from the ride, even if it was a 'casual' walk, although sitting on her is a bit like the fellwell pics, she's extremely wide..
Figured our 'loop' around the block is 4km, a nice easy start. I might start alternating riding + walking this loop, perhaps encourage myself to walk more? Alternatively I could just walk the dog around the oval a million times.. that sounds nicer on my joints.

Eating is going okay. Still no sugar which I am very happy with. No cravings for chocolate or deep fried foods, haven't had a take away in about 6 weeks. Oh wait, no, I had a kebab. My favorite, delicious kebab tastes awful as the mayo tastes so sweet now!! >.< I wont be having it again in a hurry, maybe I'll swap it for sushi (Saturday night is 'treat' night for o/h).

Exercise......... mmm... that's a weak area. I am cleaning today again, I have my music ready so I can bop as I mop. I'm working with someone today, so better keep my (awful) singing to the bare minimum, or she might not want to work with me again LOL. I have some time next week available where I can walk the dog more, and squeeze in a few rides (depending on what the weatherman says). I have an extra horse staying with us at the moment, so that's more poop to scoop = more steps. He could do with a bit of boot camp too, so that might help me up my exercise.

Sushi is def. one of my treats. I love it. It all sounds good BB. Your job would involve a lot of exercise. Any extra you can squeeze in the better. Bop as you mop- great idea! Music always helps with any sort of work. Cheers, Cate.

Just ate sushi recently and our sushi chef made me a roll with no rice, I was so so happy with it. Sushi and sashimi are some of my favorite foods. *especiallytheunagi* which is so not low carb...
Speaking of scooping poop, we have a problem with large dog leavings at one of our apartment complexes and I was out there the other day in 66f degree heat (I live in Alaska, its not supposed to be this hot1!!!) scooping large piles...hating it. I would rather scoop horse poo, its less...messy.

Thanks Cate! Bopping has paid off, another kg gone! Winning!! 108.7kgs, booyeah. I am feeling the difference, less puffed when walking the hilly paddock to fetch a rebellious pony, I even jogged up the hill with a wheel barrow full of weeds yesterday. I actually enjoyed the challenge, will do that again today.

Kaplooie - that is warm for Alaska! Yes I don't 'do' dog poop. You can get a groovy little contraption so you don't have to touch it, it's like an extendable claw - scoops it up in one movement so you don't have to touch it. (Please remember to de-worm yourself, even if you haven't touched any of it). At least with horse manure I can compost it in large piles, or if I'm feeling lazy, just kick it around the paddock to cover the 'bald' spots lol.

Righto, quicky update as I'm off to work. Just had to share my weightloss with someone (o/h is still asleep!)

Thanks Trusylvr and Cate! I hope you're both going really awesome :)

I did a quick flick back through my diary here to see how far I've come. It's been 5 weeks since I started my added/artificial sugar free lifestyle, and I have to admit, I would be happy to never go back :coolgleamA: I am in full swing of it, and taking much better care of what I'm eating - even mum is on board by watching what she offers me when I go to her place (even making super delicious muffins!).
I only drink water now, or coconut + green tea at mums (super yummy!!). I have no desire to reach for a chocolate bar, or sugary drink (although I did dream I caught myself eating chocolate, and was so upset LOL!). I don't even reach for my coconut oil chocolate much anymore?! Who is this person??!

In saying that, my new 'treat' is salty foods. I have never been a crisp eater, but the past few weeks I cannot shovel enough potato chips in my mouth! I wonder why that is? I am getting on top of that (don't buy it = can't have it LOL), but my craving for salt has been quite interesting.

Exercise wise, still a work in progress... BUT I am doing more. I am squeezing exercise in where I can. I am bopping while mopping when I clean (twice a week, 3-6 hrs each time), dancing while I vac, doing squats while cleaning the walls, etc. Also for daily chores with the horses - lunges while mucking out, jogging/fast walking up hill pushing a full wheel barrow, pulling large sacks of hay, squats when pulling weeds, lifting buckets of feed while feeding up (like weights). Even though they're just short bursts, I am hoping it all adds up. I'm also playing 'dodge the bites from the young, teething horse'.. I don't like this game, but I'm leaning to move faster!
My new 'boss' is also a PT, and has invited all workers to join her classes (twice a week), which are only a couple of blocks away. I have said I'll join in this Thursday to try it out.. can't hurt, right? Plus it's free, really can't get much better value!

Life is feeling more in control again, I am working more, setting up my new business, and feeling much healthier. Weight is slowly coming off ... life is pretty okay right now :)

Hey BB, your life sounds pretty damned good at the moment. Go for it...free classes, bopping while you're mopping, low sugar etc. Go you! Steer well clear of the salt though sweetie, says Cate, who has had to overcome a massive salt addiction or risk a heart attack. Most of us have to be very wary of replacing one addiction with another. Salt & I were once besties. You are going so well *sigh*- life can be & should be good, xo Cate

B-b-b-but I love salt, Cate! It makes everything so delicious, and sweet! I know it's bad for me, I have finished my last bag of salty chips, and I will not have anymore. I'll only pinch the odd one from o/h instead. That's an interesting point about replacing one addiction with another, and I think you're right. Do you use salt to cook with? How much salt reduction are we talking, completely or just nothing added?

I am feeling the burn from yesterday. Apparently I have abs, or something similar, as I can feel a general complaint for the abdominal area. Legs are starting to burn, but it's good, even if it makes sitting/standing a challenge, at least I know the workout did something. I am going to take the dog for a walk this arvo, help get the blood pumping and repair the tissue. Another bootcamp on Tuesday evening. She pushes you HARD, but it's good.
She made us jog to/from the cricket pitch for warm up, then a gentle stretch to limber up. We then worked in pairs in a rotation of various exercises: jogging around the oval carrying a heavy rope, lunging + squats with weights, bicep curls + arms raised with weights, and the worlds stupidest contraption. It had two loops hanging from the high beam, you lay front first and rest your feet in the loops. You then did push ups, but instead of resting your feet on the ground, you had to use your core to stabilize yourself. That was incredibly difficult, especially since the only pushup I ever do is to get out of bed in the morning LOL. After 20 miserable attempts (and a lot of laughter later!), we then moved onto the next crazy move. Feet still in the rings and into plank position, you'd think that's the worst of it, right? Oh no, you had to 'crunch' - bring your knees to your chest, then back out to plank position again.
Oh.
My.
Gosh.
She said "stabilize your core to support you".. I have no core, that's why I'm here LOL! She then said "get a momentum going, it helps". Ok, I think to myself, let's give that ago. I get one done, YES! Feet swing back, so does everything else LOL! It's the hardest thing I have ever done. We did all those exercises twice, then stretched. Took a good hour to get through, again with lots of laughter from me. She said that they're on special for $20 in the clearance bin.. I am not surprised they're in there.... Horrible!!
But yet, I want to master it. I might swing past the shop tomorrow and see if any of the contraptions are still there.. just you know, to have a look.

Took the dog for a walk around the oval this arvo, was a bit of training for her (she gets nervous around other dogs), and some exercise for me. She did well, even if the smallest of fluffy dogs did look at her side ways, she handled herself well. I am feeling better for it too.

108.8kgs. Looking forward to being double figures again!
