hey everyone!

I've been dieting and trying to lose weight since I was 9 years old. I've been fat my whole life. I reached 200 lbs when I was 10.

In the past year and a half, I managed to lose 50lbs. I started out in a unhealthy way by just fasting for days at a time. Then I moved on to the Atkins diet and lost a good bit of weight, but the cravings for carbs would always get me right back in trouble and I would eat away some of my success. That leaves me at the point I am now. I'm 257 lbs and I have been as low as 251(which I have reached about 3 times now) but every time I get down to about 250, something happens and I end up binging and regaining, sometimes up to 10-12 lbs back. For the past 3 months or so, I've been losing and re-gaining the same 10 lbs.

Now I've set the Atkins approach aside, because I just cant adhere to it. This time I'm concentrating on calorie intake and exercise. I am able to control my appetite better when I know that I can have whatever food I'm craving, just in small amounts. The exercise also keeps me very motivated every day and I feel great. Plus I keep a food diary of everything I eat. I feel very positive about my success this time and I'm determined to make it to 125!!

Gratz on your loss to date!

I too tried Atkins, but no lasting results. I too have a tendancy to get a rut- just when I reaching lowest weight- weird. Anyway, I'm sure you will find lots of information and inspiration on the boards. Good luck in your journey!

I'm glad you've switched to a more sustainable diet. Portion control is a very sensible approach and one that is very easy to adopt! Stick with it and you'll make it!

yes portion control is my new approach,as I to did aktins like 3years ago I did lose a lot of weight but, sometimes the carb cravvings were bad.

Diets never made sense to me at all. I am glad you are no longer depriving yourself of carbohydrates-- they are the one and only true love of my life. Forget chocolate, it's the salty, cheesy carbohydrates that I crave! Congratulations on incorporating exercise into your new lifestyle. Oh yes, and welcome here.

I totally sympathize about hitting a wall. The lowest I've ever seemed to get to is 187. Once I get there I seem to just bounce back up to a higher weight. Right now I'm at 199 (5'6). I'm new here as well, and am looking for a little support as I continue on. I'm working out 6 days a week, and have cut back on "bad carbs". So far I've lost about 4 pounds. I'm in a good groove for now, and hope to continue to make progress.
