This time I'll do it

Hi everyone. I have decided that this time I need to make a change because I want to live (I don't want to die but that's not what I'm talking about) I'm sick of missing out on everything and not enjoying life because of my weight and health issues. I need to make it if not for myself then for my 3 children.

A little about me:
I'm a 32 year old white male with a few health problems on top of my weight of 368lbs. I've always been the fat guy in fact I remember back to childhood always being embarrassed when they weighed us in the nurses office for PE and I think I hit 200 pounds in 6th grade.

My issue is I use food as a crutch because I was abused physically and sexually as a child and currently have PTSD from this. When ever I have issues and an event triggers some old difficult memory in my mind I have always turned to junk food for support. I don't want to do this anymore.

I've joined a gym and plan on going 5 days a week for at least 1 hour a day and because I'm currently unable to work I need to find ways to keep physically active when I'm at home watching the kids. I'm already seven days into my new mainly fruit and vegetable diet and I really hope I am able to keep this up.

Hi, You need to read the stickies that are here to get more of an idea of how much and what you should be eating. Mainly fruit and veg isn't enough you need to make sure that you are getting enough of all the other food groups. You can use your children as a way of working out by playing with them, chasing them about, taking them for walks etc.
Maybe you need to get counselling for your past problems if you haven't already and maybe then you won't use food as a crutch. I find that if I start the day off fairly active then I keep active for the rest of the day but if I sit around too long then I can't get up the energy to do much later on.
The most important thing is to get the food sorted. Start a diary and write down everything that you eat and how much and people will come along and see where if anywhere you are going wrong.
Read other peoples' diaries for inspiration and look at the before and after pictures particularly when you are lacking motivation.
Good luck, you sound ready to make a good go of this :)
