This is the time

:) Thanks Randy. It makes sense that you're right about what's to come, though I don't know how quick it will be. I must say I am surprised at how much difference the last 4 months have made.

Breakfast 10:30 2 weetbix,. 1C lowfat soy milk. 1/3 C tinned peaches. 1 slice wholemeal toast with minimal margarine and marmalade. Boiled egg. ½ glass tomato juice.1 C coffee with 40 ml Hilo.

Lunch: 2:00 2 wholemeal (they’re always wholemeal) Salada crackers. 100 gm low fat cottage cheese. Handful sugar snap peas, 1 carrot, 2 mushrooms.

Dinner 6:00 2 pieces takeaway skinfree Portugese chicken. 1 microwaved potato. Handful sugar snap peas, 1 carrot, 1 stalk celery. 3 marinated black olives. Bunch crimson grapes.

Exercise 10:15 Walk at the beach with husband and dog. 6.9 km (4.3 miles).

We parked the car at the dog beach and walked along the path at the top of the sand, where everyone else was walking. The day was overcast and the sea was grey. But the sea is always beautiful regardless. There were lots of surfers out, and a couple of surf skis. It wasn’t crowded but there were lots of bike riders, joggers, walkers, dog walkers, joggers with 3 wheeled prams etc. After 1 km of this my husband wanted to cross the road and head into the sandhills where he could let the dog off the leash.

So we walked in the sandhills. There are paths there too, but not one other person walking them, and no ocean sounds or sights or smells. This is pretty typical of us. I take about 5 times normal to even notice what everyone else is already aware of and then he wants to do something lateral anyway. :) Well I’m sure the extra steepness of the hills was one benefit and the stumpy rough barked gum trees growing in the limestone in there brought back pleasant childhood memories for me. We did end up on the highest point around with a stunning view.

Then we walked back along the beach path. There was a little breeze in our faces. It is just so relaxing any time to be near the water, and watch the waves foaming around the rocks and onto the sand. When we got back to the dog beach we walked down and along the beach and over some rocks. There was just one surfer there. The dog bounced around chasing pieces of seaweed and barking and grinning.

One nice thing is that I kept up with my husband the whole way. I did have to jog a couple of times to catch up because my mind wanders and my speed drops and it would never enter his head to vary his pace. He did wave at me to catch up though. After one hill he said “Do you remember that time we walked up Mount Talobrup, in the Stirlings?” I said, “Is that the one where you were about 10 minutes ahead of me the whole way and you kept stopping for a rest but every time I caught up you would start walking again.?” “Yeah.” :D We did have the same hill in mind but I don’t know why, because it was pretty much like that for every hill we’ve ever walked up!

I had plans for some stair climbing, which my daughter had suggested we do this afternoon, but it has been pouring down rain making big puddles everywhere. We have had over 1 ½ inches, since lunchtime which is a lot for here.

It isn’t cold yet and it was kind of cosy inside with all that rain out for once – but I will need to get used to feeling like that without the bad food I used to have in winter. I expect if I just ignore the old ideas and keep practicing the new ones the others will fade.

OK - that singlet is what we call a Cami (for camisole). I love those but have always worn them with a cover up myself - just use them as shells underneath another top.

It sounds like a nice day at the beach and I bet it feels good knowing you were keeping up with your husband :)

As for the step ups - don't you have galoshes???
That could be fun :)

No I don't have galoshes!! :D (Or rubber boots, which is what I think you mean).

We weren't planning stepups as such. The idea was to go to a park in the city which is built on a hill and has a few places with substantial sets of stairs. I thought they might not be all that safe for the girl and I in the rain. It really was pouring down too. :) We are still hoping to get in there in the next couple of days. The rain should be clear by tomorrow afternoon but she has already started organizing a different activity for then. :)

I thought it was sweet that my daughter had suggested going there to climb stairs. She's very alert to what activities might suit the interests of other people she knows. Even when she was little she would hunt out her brother's toys first if she was expecting a boy over on a play date.

Your daughter will make you very wealthy someday :). I'm glad you had a great walk. It won't be long until you're having to wait up for your hubby I'm sure :)

In some ways my daughter does have the potential to get into the kind of work that pays well for limited hours :). She reminds me of one of her cousins who has done that very thing. My daughter doesn't have a money coach living in her home though. :)

I like the overtaking thought! :D It would only work if I was feeling cranky though. LOL Plenty of scope there I guess.

She’s eleven. She can be very sweet. She’s also the irresistible force in this house, balanced only by me as immovable object. :)

We ended up going to King’s Park today after all. We started with the DNA tower which is a double spiral with 100 steps up. I walked up 10 times and she ran up 15 times. It was more challenging for me than what I did the other day because I wouldn’t stop until I got to the top each time. Before the steps only had 20 in a row. I only timed it one time - 70 seconds to go up. Mostly it was beyond me to remember to stop timing when I got to the top. I tried a couple of times to get a heart rate but that was totally beyond me, always.

Then we went to Jacob’s Ladder which is a little over 200 steps up the side of a hill. It’s a bit steeper than the other place and it was a real challenge to finish without stopping. The girl was ahead of me as ever, and ran back up to meet me at the end. I had considered adding another half a set just to beat my step number from the other day but just after she met me she slipped and turned her ankle a little. She seems fine now but at the time it was clearly time to call it a day. I was overtaken by joggers a twice on the way up but fortunately we missed the big groups of youngsters in training that ran up as we left. One day… :)

The most valuable commodity in the world I think is people skills. There just aren't many people who have them. Your daughter sounds really sweet which isn't really surprising :)

Thank you. I have been having a good time. I am enjoying my time with both my children right now too. I am aware of being much more relaxed and easier to get on with, now that I am taking more time for myself and feeling healthier.

I agree with you about the people skills and I'm hopeful the sweet aspect will dominate.

The stairs were fun. My legs don't scream as much the next day as they did the first time! I love it when they just feel tighter.:)

I only give well deserved rep. :)

Thanks, Cerella. I do have more energy than I did and the good people at this forum have a lot to do with that. I'm feeling very conscious of being at a lucky time in my life! :)

Good morning weetbix temptress :)

Ooo. Finally some progress with the weet-bix! :) Vegemite next?

That is excellent !!! :D:D:D
Thanks. It is. :D

Vegemite scares meView attachment 3149 but I would like to go down under just to flush a toilet and watch the water spin opposite of ours.
I suppose that's something that really happens... When I was younger a very naughty friend of mine rang someone random in America to check up on that... but the person who answered was rather bemused and we were never really sure.

Breakfast 9:30 2 weetbix,. 1C lowfat soy milk. 1/3 C tinned peaches. 1 slice wholemeal toast with minimal margarine and marmalade. Boiled egg. ½ glass tomato juice.1 C coffee with 40 ml Hilo.

Lunch: 2:00 (?) 2 wholemeal Salada crackers. 100 gm low fat cottage cheese. Celery, broccoli, mushrooms, carrot, capsicum.

Snack : 4:15 Handful of almonds

Dinner 7:00 Celery, broccoli, mushrooms, carrot, capsicum with a teaspoon of low cal French onion dip. 1 corn on the cob.

Dinner 11:15 150 gm lean grilled lamb. 2 dried apricots.

Exercise

5:30 Local walk 3.2 km (2 miles)

10:30 20 minutes low impact aerobics with weights. (I don’t know how heavy these ones are, about 1 kg I think. This workout feels right with them anyway.)

100 skips. Mixed in every step I could think of because constantly changing made it made it more bearable. I really really wanted to stop after 7 skips and 2 lots of treading on the rope. :( So now I know how much harder that is to do than it sounds. It seems like it would be very valuable to be able to really use it so I guess I will persist.

Oh my GAWD, Felici, skipping is SO hard!! I tried it once and wanted to stop after 7 times too. Good on you for 100...! That is the height of exercise far as I'm concerned. There's a reason boxers use the rope too...it's a killer. Something I aspire to.

Good morning weetbix temptress :)

Weetbix temptress...I like that...I think we should make T2's nickname for you stick.

had to edit the word "wanted" cuz I spelt it wnated...musta had a dyslexic moment...tee hee

Ohhhh...I just got a rope today - went outside, did 20 skips and promptly fell over dead!

That thing is going to kill me!

Brava on 100!
