This is a gym I might avoid...

I don't think it's different at all, and the two examples I picked were just that, examples. I could have picked anything.

There are enough people who don't mind being overweight, are overweight for medical reasons, are trying to lose weight and aren't as successful as they would like to be for one reason or the other. Besides, it doesn't matter what YOU think, it doesn't matter what the person in question thinks, calling somebody a 'fatty' is rude, derogatory, and also discriminating.

According to you, it's perfectly okay to discriminate somebody because of their body weight and state of fitness, but not because of a disability or choice of their religion? Interesting.

I don't think they're being discriminatory by using their chosen slogan. Mildly offensive? Maybe. Discriminatory? No, not at all.

Personally, I think that people just need to relax and realize that it's supposed to be funny. I could give a long winded speech on how overblown the reactions to this slogan are, but I think I'll just end it with that. It's literally that simple.

people go to gyms to lose weight and get fit, who would want to go to a gym that calls them fat? you dont need more insults to keep putting you down and lose your confidence. if anything, gyms should advertise "you can do it and we will help get you there!" or something along those lines.

Oh gawd. I don't blame anyone else for me being fat. I don't believe in fat empowerment. I don't think blatant name calling or cruelty is ever warrented, but this is just a dumb joke.

People really need to get over it. They obviously aren't offended enough to stop eating so much.

^^this

And I mean, if we really want to find something to burn angry energy at Im sure we all can find something that pisses people way more off like say... religious signs on public buildings or... quacks selling TCM at ridiculous prices to cure cancer or... psychic mediums or.. something we can really disagree on and get all huff puff about :)

This really isn't enough to tickle my angry bone, I have a world full inept people with fingers on atomic war buttons to deal with, they offend me vastly more than any gym will ever be able to :)

Also... aren't we suppose to keep out stress = cortisol levels down to aid in our weight loss? I mean... if we get all freaked out over this we'll never get slim ;)

im sure none of us here are that ticked about it. not even i am, hell i dont even know where that gym is. but just because you dont want to go somewhere because you dont like what they have to say about something doesnt mean you are gunna blow your top off.

Well this seems like a logical thing to me. We humans eat alot of fatty foods because the fat tastes better. Sooooo......wouldn't the fatter people taste better to the Aliens?

(Oh just relax and dont be so damn PC all the time, its a joke. People can and will get offended over just about anything. Everybodys just too sensitive nowdays...sheesh !)

I'm not offended by it, I just don't want to go to a gym where my predetermined identity is fatty. I don't feel like I'd get the kind of encouragement I need from them.

It's not like they're saying fat people deserve to be shot or anything...

I don't find it offensive at all. It's bad for business though (overweight people trying to get healthy won't go there). I don't think it's a bad ad though. I think only the people who are fat and not making a good enough effort to lose weight will get offended.

I see the attempt at humour in the ad.

However, if there were 2 gyms in town I was considering joining and one advertised like this.............I'd go to the other one.

Well I'd never join a gym like that- I'd be too afraid people would recognise my gym card in my wallet and assume I was trying to escape an alien abduction....that I believed the aliens were coming for me and the words gullible and stooopid would become an invisible written feature on my forehead!
