Thinking of cutting back on circuits....

Alright.

I don't know if it's just sheer laziness, or actually a half decent thought.

I think it might have been laziness, and then escalated to a decent idea.

I I currently do the following;
======
Day1; Wieght training
Day 2; Abs, circuits
Day 3; Legs, circuits
Day 4; Rest
======

I primarily want to increase the size of my muscles a bit, as well as NOT gain fat, however.

Anyways, I was thinking of changing it to this;
=======
Day 1; Weight training
Day 2; Abdominals, legs
Day 3; 30 minute circuit
Day 4 ; Rest
=======

What do some of you reading this think? My reasoning behind this is that I figure I will be working out for more then 10 minutes on days 1 and 2, so therefore I should be burning SOME fat, not too much, but some. Then, day 3 is just pure circuits. I figure I would burn my primary fat here. And day 4, of course, is rest.

Do you think there will be any serious drawbacks, or rather flaws, in this new plan?

Dude, If your goal is to put on so much weight as it says in you Sig. You gotta start training for it. There is no way you will make that before xmas.

This is gonna sound like a bit of a burn, but thats a bit of a silly question for someone thats posted as much as you have. You must have read all this in the last few months.

If you wanna gain mass, search and read up on your diet, compound exersise, training programs for 3 times a week stuff like that.

I know it is, I was just wonder what people thought of this new workout, and how effective it would be comparfed to the last.

Effective for what?
Mass? No way.
fitness? no
strenght? no

Youve not mentioned what you do in your circuit training!

Do you want to get fit and loose weight, or add muscle. You'll be hard pushed to do both.

If you wanna get fit and add a lil bit of muscle, then do your fitness training 3 out of 4days.

1, push weights - LBCV (leg based CV)
2, pull weights - LBCV
3, Squats - boxing, climbing, bagwork, hand cycle etc...
4, rest.

If you wanna primarily build mass then you gotta drop your fitness program, as this will burn your muscles. You gotta choose a goal and be specific so we can help more.

Hrm, the reason WHY I have decided to cut out the circuits from the weights and such is primarily FOR the reason of NOT burning the muscle.

I figure I use up carbs, and some fats on the two weight training days, and burn fat as a primary on the circuits. I hope that by isolating circuits to its own day will ensure that I do not burn mucsles.

Again you have not specifyed what it is you do on your circuits.

When you exersise for more than 15-20mins your body will STEAL glucose from your muscles. Making them smaller.

If you wanna build muscle and do CV you should try 20min a day/every-other-day of fartlick. That is where you go as fast as pos for as long as pos (1-2mins) then slow down for 3mins, and keep going in this pattern

you want to work your heart at 90% or your MHR then drop it to 60% then back up. This will burn fat and get you fit.

You will be burning fat when you weight train and for days after whilst you are healing anyway. Your body fat will drop and rise depending on what your eating more than any exersise.

Fartlick? Eheh, that gave me a laugh (immature..)

Anyways, for circuits I do;

Up/downs
Mountain climbers
Jumping jacks
mountain jumpers
running in spot (high leg)

Anyways, I have no idea what you're talking about. It could help if I could understand. How can 1 single day of circuits, with about 72 hours in-between them do me BAD?

Its not when you do it, its the lenght of time you do it for.

This is gonna be really basic and not 100% scientific cos it's really complex, but here goes.

there are 2 types of energy systems that your body uses. There are 3, but to make it easy to understand were just gonna pretend there are two.

1, the energy thats in your blood.
2, stored energy, i.e. energy in your fat and muscles fibers.

1, when you need a short burst of energy like lifting weights or a quick sprint 1-2mins your muscles use the energy thats in your blood to power them.

2, When your running at a steady pace for more than a few mins all the energy in your blood is used up and must be replenished. There is not enough time to rest for your body to make more energy from whats in your stomach so it breaks down the fibers or your fat and muscle and turns it in to fuel.

Therefore when running for fitness you should run at max speed for 1-2mins (When I say max speed, I mean really push it!!!) when your exhausted it means you have burn all the fast burning energy from your blood.
Then you go back to a fast walk. during the next few mins walking your body will pump fresh energy back in to your blood stream from the glucose in your stomach. Then you sprint again to use it up, then slowly so your energy system can catch up. etc...

as you can see, you are still burning the same amount of calories, but your not STEALING energy from your muscles. The reason you wont learn this in the gym is because 1, its not fun and 2, its dangerous for people with heart problems cos of the sudden rush. your also working your "fast twitch muscle fibers" (the white ones) that you dont work jogging.

NOTE TO KNOW-IT-ALLS: I know this is not accurate, but im just trying to make it easy to understand. If anyone wants to explane it better please do.

That is interesting stuff, thank you very much.

However, I don't understand how I will accomplish this with the circuits I am doing...

Dont!

Weight training, CV, Streching.

Thats all you need. the circuits will not help you in any way. When you do circuits you are training fitness and muscles at the same time. But your muscles cant work or grow with out your full attention and effort. It just wont happen. Train your CV and Weights seperatly.

Im not sure it ever did.
If you wanna build muscle - weight training
if you wanna get fit - CV

There are many things that ppl do to try and work both at the same time. But they are just designed for fun, to keep ppl interested, and if you dont have weights.

If your serious about them, work tem seperatly cos they are two diff things.

If you like painting and you also like sky diving, You wouldn't do them both together would you?

Hrm, this is a good point.

I see. But won't cutting out ALL circuits basically make me get more body fat? :(

Also, I only have a machine, and well, there are not tooo many exercises to do... -__-''

So, could I just do the same exercise, over, and over? I don't QUITE understand how this is supposed to work.

If I do only 1 exercise per body part of 4 sets, and lets say 7 reps, then my training session will be over rather quickly... Can you help me out here as well?

Nice example, by the way...

...

Why no mr Nobody because you'll replace the circuits with CV and weight training.

What is this "one machine" that you have? Be as specific as possible.

If you wanna stick to a 4day program (witch is good) Try the program I typed a few days ago.
1, push weights - LBCV (leg based CV)
2, pull weights - LBCV
3, Legs - boxing, climbing, bagwork, hand cycle etc...
4, rest.

Do you understand the Fartlick training?
Do you understand what the push/pull exersises are?

Try writing a detailed program and type it up.

go for 5-6 exersises, hit each big muscle twice.
4-6 sets or 6-8 reps Dont do over 90 reps in a work out per muscle.

If not send me a personal message and I'll send you some of my old programs.
