The ups and downs of Dieting...

Okay.. thought it was high time that i started myself a journal seeing as everyone else has... dont wanna feel left out.

I cant write down what im going to eat.. seeing as i have my food set out for me. :D

But here are my goals:
1) To go to the gym at least twice a week for an hour..
2) Go roller blading around the park when ever i have a free time.
3) Resist all temptation to eat what im not allowed... no more thinking its low in calories so i can get away with it.
4) Stop feeling sorry for myself because i cant eat what i want to.. Its not the end of the world.. its only a diet!
5) Walk to uni and back everyday.. no more takeing the bus.. its only a 30 min walk.. i can do it!

I think thats everything? :confused: If i remember anymore ill put them down. :)

Will keep everyone updated on my progress etc. :D

Thanks TallGirl... its nice to hear about other people that are doing this program. Also good to see that other people are having the same problems as me.

Im finding it... pretty hard to be honest. I fell off the band wagon a couple of days ago.. ended up having a KFC burger and then 2 speciality cookies. Felt divine when i was eating it.. but then afterwards i just thought.. Why? Why did i do that? I hate to think what my weight loss is this week...

Spoke to my counciller about the zero foods and basically said that i was allowed to do what ever i liked.. but then went into a lecture about the fact that if i started eating that.. then what was stopping me from moving onto other things like a small peice of chocolate every now and then.. or a takeaway every now and then. Truth is.. because its pretty expensive, if i cheated im only cheating myself, because im slowing the weight loss and having to pay so much for the packs bla bla bla.

Truth is its really really hard. Some days i find i can get through without thinking about food at all.. its fine.. I have my shake and be done with it. Other days im sitting in my room just craving chocolate.. Even just a proper meal.. like a nice salad!

I think the most depressing thing about it is the fact that im going to be on it for another 2 months or so.. I just think im wasting my life and money on packs which i dont really even like that much. The only satisfaction i get out of it is the weight loss of 3lbs or possibly more each week.

The problem is that i have been 'porky' now for ages.. and i feel that if i abandoned the diet.. i would be letting down all the people that have sponsered me. Im only on my 3rd week.. im hopeing that as the weeks go on it will get easier and easier to do.. but i doubt it highly. :(

Oh well.. i guess all i can do is plod on and try my hardest not to fall of the wagon too many times.. well.. not at all really is what i should be saying.

I got so many friends birthdays coming up and they want to celebrate in style.. and i just cant be fun anymore.. no alchohol and no food. :( :(
 
So what do you actually get to consume each day? What do you mean that people are sponsoring you? Are you getting much out of the cognitive-behavioral therapy? I hope that is a HUGE component of that program, otherwise, it would be very difficult, I imagine, to maintain the weight loss once the program ends. I wish you the best of luck with this! Love, J.
 
Well.. basically im having a sweet shake made with water in the morning (chocolate flavoured as i dont like any of the other flavours..) I then have a food bar throughout the day.. Cut it up into tiny little peices so that i can snack on it as i go about the day. Means if im suddenly attacked with a hunger pang, i can cure it with a few chunks of these bars. (the lemon ones are alright.. toffee is okay and then a peanut flapjack type thing.) Your only allowed 1 bar a day, and only get them in the second week. I then have a soup for dinner (Thi sweet chilli.. which is the best out of them.. and mushroom.) The flavours arent that great to be honest.. and there isnt a great choice to choose from. It gets very boring.. very quickly. Especially seeing as i dont really 'like' any of the flavours.. these are simply the best out of the choice im given. Im currently playing around with reciepes of what you can do with the food packs to see if it makes them any easier to eat.. if im enjoying what im eating.. it will mean i wont find it quite as hard to do it.. and stop these sudden urges to eat convential food again.

The cognitive-behavioral therapy is... well.. alright. Nothing great! I have a two hour weekly seminar, where we get weighed, make sure we are still in the ketosis stage (burning fat still) by drinking enough water and sticking to the plan. We get measured sometimes just to see how many inches have been lost. We then pick up our weekly 'food supply.' However, most of the sesion is where we all sit around and talk about why we think we have over eaten in the past etc etc.. its alright.. but to be honest i know why i have over eaten. 1) is out of bordem.. and 2) is that i love my food! Just havent bothered with much exercise and smaller portions before. All i really get out of the seminars is the proof that i am looseing weight.. Although i have to say that hearing how much other people have lost and then comparing it to myself sometimes gets me down a little.

There is a maintennce program that i will go on once i have lost all the weight i want to.. which basicallly re-introduces me to food slowly so that i dont go overboard and put most of the weight back on.

Im getting sponsered to loose weight. Bascially my grandfather is dying of motor neourone diesease. Its a muscle wasitng diesase which currently has no cure. I was fed up with the fact that i was overweight... so i thought about what could help me to keep motivated to do it. Managed to raise about £600 so far.. which is great because not only am i helping myself but i am helping others too.

Why do i have to read these articles? i know what im doing and my plan on how to do it.. so how are these helpful?
 
Yippee.. Ive lost another 4 pounds!

And ive managed to switch my program to something simliar.. only they have much nicer flavours and dont have the weekly meeting. To be honest i wasnt getting much out of them anyways. :D

*bouncy bouncy* If i continue to loose weight the way i am going then im going to be thinner then i have been in years next week..

OHH OOHH.. and the best thing about next week is its 'add a meal week.' So im going to be having salad and chicken for dinner. I cant remember the last time i was so excited about having salad. :D:D hehe
 
Pinky, what is the new program you are doing?? Also, it's too bad that the cognitive-behavioral part of the other program was essentially missing. Basically, with cognitive behavior therapy, we teach clients to change their thoughts in order to change their behaviors. I would love to expand my practice (one day) into working with compulsive overeaters. I'm not equipped for that now.

Keep posting, I'm interested in hearing your progress!

I think the problem with the seminars was that there was far too much competition between everyone. When ever we got weighed everyone would be like.. how much did you loose? how much do you weigh now? I found it almost a little intimidating.. dunno.. maybe im just being stupid. :eek: Plus.. The first week was alright.. i picked up on small things that i did wrong.. like eating too much and not finishing when my body was telling me i was full. And snacking way too much. Now that im not snacking at all i can see that i didnt really need all the food i was having before.

This new diet is called the Cambridge Diet. Its basically the same concept of Lighter Life.. altho the packs and bars taste much much better. (aparently.. i havent tried one yet. :rolleyes: ) It is also a lot lot cheaper then LL. before i was paying £50 a week.. where as now i am only paying around £35- £40 (once you put travelling costs on over the top.) :D Instead of set group meetings.. you get the choice to have group meetings if you want them.. or just stick with the weekly stop in's with your counciller. Just talking to my woman today made me feel alright. Think i can work on my own with it rather then with a group.. besides.. my group thing is on this board. :D You guys are keeping me going.

The other difference is that the packs are not quite as many calories.. i think we are working around 400-500 calories a day.. which is tiny. i was like.. wow! :eek: LL was about 600 calories a day i think..

Plus with the CD after 4 weeks of being on 'Sole Source,' (having three packs a day and nothing else) there is something called 'Add A Meal' week, where we basically have a low fat meal instead of a pack. Not sure what we are allowed but i presume its going to be chicken etc and salad.. which i cant wait for! :D a nice hot spicy chicken salad. *licks lips with anticipation.* Its to raise our metabolism rate aparently.. dunno.. but to be honest i cant wait. hehe

This is my first challenge.. should be interesting to see how it goes.

Been ill over the last couple of days which has been pretty hard for me. In the past when ive been ill, ive gone straight for the chocolate bar.. or the cookies. :( But because im not allowed to eat them ive been struggling through.. been drinking so much tea and coffee. hehe

Will post here again when i know my next weight loss. Hopefully it will be high! :D
 
maybe a good time for the old liquid diet? J/k whatever helps you though... Teas and chicken soups... mmmmmm.... better than the chocolate in the long run Pinky!

My house mate was eating a large bar of chocolate last night. I could have cried i wanted it so badly. :(

Spent the last day or so in bed.. trying to get over this horrible feeling. Im feeling a little better now.. just have to get rid of this blocked up feeling.

Oh the joys of being a woman! hahaha
 
Being a woman has its advantages and disadvantages... sometimes a curse, sometimes a blessing... Men always say "never trust someone who can bleed for 7 days and not die" LOL We are the stronger sex!

Actually i was having this conversation with a friend of mine a couple of days ago.. who happened to be male. I love men... don't get me wrong. Completely understand that they have to go through pressures in life bla bla bla. However! While men may be stronger when it comes to muscle mass, i firmly believe that women are the stronger race. Afterall.. we have to deal with stomach cramps so bad that they can bring you to your knees (happened to me once in a shop.. so embaressing. :eek: ) every month... lets not forget the fact we happened to be bleeding! (so gross) What else.. oh yeah.. Pregnancy then childbirth... raising the kids... I DID have a huge list of things that i had managed to come up with.. had a really good argument... but for some reason i'v practically forgetten most of it. :p

Bah.. oh well.. I've just seen the first screening of Harry Potter 4 over here in England.. ha ha! :D It was sooooo good.. but i cried so much. Woops.. this is supposed to be a weight loss diary... not just a random blog! :D

Oh.. by the way.. its currently 4am here.. i'm wide awake.. only just got home from the city...

Oh god no.. don't take a 6 year old to see the new HP. I cried my eyes out.. Have you read the book? There are a few scenes in it which a kid that young might find very disturbing. Its been rated a 12A here.. first HP movie with a rating higher then a PG.

Im feeling a little better thanks.. my throat is still killing which makes it difficult to breath. But at least i managed to get out of bed.. havent done much though. Still taking it slow.
 
Okay.. an update on my diet.

Last week was a complete nightmare. I was ill for the whole week practically so did no exercise. Most of my nights and pretty much all of the day were spent in bed trying to sleep it off. :( And i fell off the band wagon so many times that i actualy put on a pound this week. So instead of being 171lbs im now 172lbs. Im so dissapointed! :( But to be honest its my own fault anyway.

Techincally this week is meant to be my 'add a meal week,' where i still have the same amount of shakes and bar's a day, but i also have a very small meal. (like chicken and salad..) I'm not going to do it all this week.. seeing as i was snacking last week. My counciller said it was alright to do it for the whole week.. but what i choose is up to me.. so naturally.. im not going to do it for the whole week. :D if i can stick to the shakes etc then i might loose the weight that i didnt loose this week. But knowing that i can have a small meal if i want to helps.. kinda puts less pressure on me i think.
