The Ulimate Sports Debate; Hockey=Best, Baseball=BORING

OK,
First of all, i want this to be a serious debate, like with explinations, and things, not just "I like hockey," or "i think hockey is the best because i play it."
Second, I kno that most of this is personal opinion, but i want to see why other people like sertin sports more than others.

Third, id like a brief backround on yourself, for example:
I play Hockey, Soccer and Baseball, and Run Cross Country.

1. My favorite/the best (haha) sport in the world is Hockey- mainly because of its unique qualities, that seperate it from other sports. Things i like about it is high speed, very few sports give u the ablity to move that fast, and still be physical- which in my opinion is a good thing. Not a ton of stoppage (is that a word??? haha) like it seems like it keeps going, theres not like 3 mins in between plays. Its on ice (uniqueness). Its challenging, and tireing.

2. Lacrosse. Its fun to watch, its high speed, and physical. Its an over all good idea.

3. Soccer. It keeps going- hardly any stops. although i admit it can get slow. and theres not alot of scoring, making it kinda boring.

4. American Football- Cool concept of scoring. very physical, but too much time inbetween plays,--- which is why Rugby is way more exciting. its fast and also unique.

5. Baseketball- I hate basketball. I dont kno y. maybe cause im bad at it. but im bad at lacrosse too, and i like that. i dno.

6. BASEBALL-Ok. this has to be the slowest sport in the world. I can watch 3 and a half mins of hockey, and miss TWO PITCHES of baseball, both of which were fouled off, and had no effect on the 2-2 count. It just seems like a waste of time. i said earlier that i played baseball. its just a fun league, not to competive, but it is slightly more fun to play, and is exciteing if your pitching or catching cause ur actully in the game. i have no desire to watch baseball on television. its a unique sport- but its to slow. im from st louis, and im a big Cardinals fan, but i have to admit, unless im at the stadium, baseball bores the hell outta me. we better beat that pond scum.

Id like to see what other ppl say. thanks.

GO CARDS!

!. Volleyball- im really good at it, its fun, easy to understand. ive never played on a team, altho i might just do intramural here at college.

2. Hockey- my boyfriend really got me into this because he played in high school so i went to every game. i think its easy to understand, and it moves quickly (like you said). i can be agressive so i get really into these games. i love it when they fight too. lol makes me want to get in it. ha! and red wings are awesome.

3. Basketball- played it for 6 years. im a good shooter from further distances. i liked tricking people on the other team, like making up plays that they couldnt follow. i also hate basketball because of my 5th grade coach, she didnt let me play because she hated me cuz i was too talkative...go figure

4. Soccer- i just like this sport

5. Baseball/softball- played for 8 years. played on an all boys team when i played baseball. that was fun :D its an okay sport, only continued cuz i thought that was what made my dad happy.

6. Football- only into it sometimes, like when i hate the other team. and my bro played it so i have to support it somewhat.

yay for sports! :)

Hockey: I am canadian, but am sick of it. mainly because every parent thinks their kid is going to make the NHL. Good sport still.

Lacrosse: hockey in the summer

Soccer: great exercise, but running up and down the field for 1 1/2 hours and no scoring seems pointless

Football: much more exciting to watch then hockey, but not as exciting to play unless your the QB or get to tackle him

Rugby: best sport to play. Combines speed and endurance of soccer and adds physical and planning of football

Baseball: most people don't like it because they don't understand it. It's like Chess. Each pitch/play is calculated based on the hitter, score, players on base, who's up next, etc. It is the most thought out sport out there. It is a very fascinating game to analyze. I will admit that it used to be a fat-man's sport, but not in the last 10 years. Of course, i'm a bit biased because I played college ball and now coach pre-college players.

Now softball ... ummm, beeeeeerrrr!!! that's about all i have to say about that :D

Baseball is a great lazy sport. Meaning, cracking open a nice cold...err...water :) and some...celery and cottage cheese (aka hotwings :) ), Soccer is boring. Unless zidane headbutts someone. I like hockey somewhat. I dont know the rules but i want to learn. For those that dont like football, watch college football. More specifically auburn football. The atmosphere is insane. At the beginning of every game a golden eagle and a bald eagle fly circles around the field. Its the most beautiful sight in sports.

Hockey's good to watch, but I get frustrated with the amount of "technical" penalties that I see (rather than a penalty for smashing someone round the face with a stick, players get sent to the bin for tripping... whats that about? Supposed to be a physical sport!)

Rugby is awesome to play, I think. It combines the good stuff from all other sports and filters out the crap. Decent scoring (30-18 was the score of the game on Sunday I watched), fast paced, very physical, set plays and so on without the needless crap that comes with other sports.

I like playing "soccer" but I can't stand watching it anymore. I hate the diving, rolling around like they've been shot antics that have come into the game over recent years and its non-existant at amateur level, so I don't mind playing it still - I'd much rather pay to watch a non-pro side than a pro one nowadays because get to avoid all the fake-injury rubbish.

Baseball I've never sat down and watched, so won't comment on that.

But the most boring sport I've seen/played (from my POV) has to be Tennis - no physical side to it, plus mens rallies never last more than 3 shots, and thats if the serve is returned... Plus where I live when Wimbledon is on, everyone is instantly an expert on Tennis and it irratates me! :)

In short - eat healthy, drink water and play Rugby. :)

Plus where I live when Wimbledon is on

:D

For me...

I like watching US football highlights, some of the hits are awesome. Too slow for me to sit back and watch over here though, at 1am I can't afford to stay up to watch a match.

I like playing soccer, its a good workout and I still fancy it as a really hard sport to play, merely for the fact you play it with your feet, which is just unnatural. Sick of watching the sport and seeing big name players going to ground at the first oppurtunity.

Rugby...well I love watching and playing both league and union. I was bread on this sport so its in my blood for life most probably now. I can appreciate the subtelties of the sport as well as the bloody nosed controlled agression involved. Its kind of like American Football, without the padding and with some rules. Having said that domestic league fixtures in union can be a little 'flat' atmosphere wise, with the whole sport centred around international fixtures. Which does admittedly make for awesome games once the internationals roll round.

Ice Hockey I really like watching. I can't skate worth **** so thats probably half the reason why I appreciate it, but also the physical side and the atmosphere that can build up in those little stadiums. Often find it awful hard though to find just where the hell the puck is

And I too loathe watching basketball. Players are the only ones in the world more "pussified" than soccer players, smallest gust of wind as an opponent nears them and bam! they're down. wtf??

Generally I'm something of a sports nut so I can sit and watch most sports, with the exception of things like darts and dwarf tossing.

I don't like Baseball because its too boring and I don't like Hockey either. Or soccer, or rugby or any other sport except for american football. Lots of people say they take to much time in between plays but when i watch it time flys really fast; thats how you know when you like it.

yeah you must love it. when i go to Michigan games, im ready to die during the first 3 mins. 3 mins on the clock = 45 mins in actual time!

good response, and well explained, it seems like many of u agree with some of my points, so thats cool, and its even cooler that theres something different about everyones top sports, and for different reasons, and that some ppl like a sport, for the same reason i dislike it.

I just thought of something else i find quite entertaining. Ulitmate Fighting.
I dno about sport, but its deifanlty fun to watch. it can get a little scary, even thru the TV, tho. any additional comments on that would be appreicated. i just wanna see if anyone like actully gets into it. my uncle has parites with his buddies and they all get drunk at watch fighting.... lol sounds like a good time.

Baseball is a sport that you either love or hate. There really isn't any "in between"

I played baseball, I officiate baseball, I love baseball. People who love baseball will tell anyone that its not about just the game, its about statistics. There's a lot more going on strategy wise then most casual fans see. Pitchers know where to pitch certain hitters, and when they make mistakes, thats when homers happen. Hitters have certain tendencies, and teams know that. It is slow, but I like nothing better than going to the ballpark, relaxing and watching a game with a nice cold beer.

Football is my favorite sport though. It does have its down side (Time between plays being the big one everyone mentions) but when you see a nice tough goalline stand, a running back bowl over a linebacker, a quarterback throw a 30 yard strike for a touchdown, these things are what make the game great in my opinion.

Basketball ? Other than the NCAA tournament, no thanks.

I like hockey, I used to follow it religiously in high school, im more of a casual fan though. I know the rules, strategy, and used to play goaltender when I was younger.

I watch ultimate fighting, but Im a martial artist. I enjoy watching fights.

I'm not a big soccer fan, I have respect for the conditioning of the players, but I just can't watch it.

I love watching rugby on tv when i can catch it. I don't know much about it, but its cool to watch :D

1-football...requires far more strategy, strength and power than any other sport. very physical. by far the most fun to play and watch.

2-basketball...fun to play, boring to watch unless it's in the final minute of a close game(only college basketball is good to watch, nba sucks)

3-the rest suck

the 2 worst

2-Baseball...nothing is more boring...that's just a fact

1-soccer...it's hard to list it here because i dont really consider it a real sport as it is just a bunch of fairies prancing around

"to me, soccer is for little boys who's mommys wouldnt allow them to play football because they were scared of them getting hurt."

Dont even have to give this guy a response.

:D eeeeeeeeeeeeeeediot.

andy, lets remember there are differences between facts and opinions. you stated opinions. i think you might want to keep your stereotype of soccer players to yourself because people from all over the world are on this site and soccer means different things to different people. im sure they could say a lot of **** about american football too. you can say you dont like it but you dont have to rip on it.

^what she said^

to whom it may offend,
i aboslutley hate it when ppl say things like "you either love it or hate it," cause its complete bull****. that cant be farther from the truth, espically in the case of baseball. i dont LOVE baseball, like you do, and i dont HATE it, i atully enjoy watching some games, and im watching/rooting the cards on right now, but im not saving up for season tickets, playing ball year round for my highschool, coaching, umping, and reading about it in my free time.
for some reason this love it or hate it nonsense reminds me of when my mom would say "if you like ketchup, then y dont u like tomatoes" uh cause those are completely different. im aware that that probably doesnt make sense to anyone, lol but it makes me feel good to tell you all.
football does take a lot of stratigy like baseball so i, not sure which one is more stregical, id say baseball, cause only idiots make the football team.... :D

to the person that said all sports are boring to watch- then i think they need more patience and should check out all the sports out there.

To bad you have to take drugs to compete in American football, no need for that in soccer which is good.
Cycling is the most ridiculous sport tho, whoever takes the most drugs and gets away with it wins lol no technique no nothing just having the most juiced up cardiovascular system haha

you dont think its possible to straight up hate a sport? i dont know really but i think its possible. just doesnt mean you need to make fun of it like andy chose to do. i guess it could also be just that the person doesnt fully understand the sport so they think they hate it. cuz i dont think i hate a sport, but theres some i sort of dislike because i dont understand the game yet. aka football lol. but i will go to the games and attempt to learn some things. and watch at home. one thing that makes any sport ok while watching is winning! ha

Being a sports junkie, I don't care if it is Badmitton, if it is the only sport on tv, I will watch it. However, if I had to choose to go see a sport live I would choose College Football #1 and Hockey #2 hands down.

yeah going to hockey games are the best, and then i like going to basketball games. college football isnt bad, especially when its my college :)
