The Trials of Running...

Though I told myself I would not start my official weightloss program until Monday I took an opportunity tonight....

I have a friend, Johnathan, who runs EVERY night. He started running when school got out (June 3rd)... and lost 12 lbs since! He should be so proud of himself:) He's doing great... :D

Anyhow, tonight I asked him if I could perhaps try to run with him...
His course includes a certain path he memorized around his neighborhood. He said sure he'd let me come along today....

I did not know how powerful the man was. MY GOODNESS... or just how out of shape I was. I have done miles and miles of jogging and cycling in the gym before, but the actual outside world is so different. Seriously. Once we made it down the street and around the corner I was already gasping for air. Johnathan looked back at me and said, "Breathe through your nose and just push yourself. Don't stop running, even if you want to give up." Oh, I tried, but I found myself giving up. Each street I gasped for air. Sharp pains stabbed my side and I felt the sweat drip from my forehead. Deep within myself I felt the horror, the guilt, the shame invade my thoughts. I felt terrible for continuing to give up over and over again, though proud that I did another lap after believing I'd die after the first. Then I felt horrible because I was slowing him down. In his mind he was probably thinking, "I wish I'd just left her at home!"

Johnathan inspires me. He's opened my eyes to what I have to look forward to. While he is on his own journey and already doing great, I am starting my own. One day I will be able to run along side him, without stopping. I will lose those glorious 12 pounds that he has seen shed from his own body.

This run has also showed me what I need to work on. This, the weightloss, will be a difficult process. I will probably want to stop every now and then, but I must push forward. I have the potential to achieve my goals. I will do it. I know I can....

That's awesome that you've started running! Your friend sounds like great inspiration! Welcome to the forum and keep up the great work!

You know what I called those pains and gasps of air.

"THE BEGINNING OF YOUR NEW LIFE"

You have just taken your first steps to the new you. Just think in a couple weeks of running and dieting you will be able to look back at that day and say WOW what a difference and only in a matter of a short time.

You may not still be able to keep up with your friend but that doesn't matter it is the improvements in yourself that matters and you will see them.

Keep up the good work and don't give up......I wish you all the luck

GOOD ON YOU for getting out there and making the decision to start your journey now rather than waiting til Monday.
Keep up the running. It is real hard outside. I was the same. When I started running on a treadmil at the gym I was like running for a minute and walking for 3 kinda thing, then I built it up so that I could run for 20minutes without stopping. Then I couldn't afford my gym membership anymore and started to run outdoors and I could barely run for a minute without having to stop. It's really hard and de-motivating and I have struggled to get past the running for 60seconds on concrete but I only go out twice a week and some weeks I don't go out at all. I really need to start motivating myself to go out running on a regular basis. Yesterday I decided that instead of following one of these programms where you run for 60secs walk for 90 I decided I would just run until I couldn't run anymore and i managed a mile.

But you keep up the good work x

Outstanding, Moni!! That's the only right way to do it! Just keep believing in yourself and keep pushing! You can do it no matter what! Keep us updated on your progress :)

Lot's of love,
Az xx

Yes, yes! lol I am his grasshopper ;) I just hope that I can keep up with all of this stuff.... today my thighs are screaming AHHHHHHH, so sore. lol :) I'm ready for this, though. No more fatness!

And thank you so much! Your words help keep me motivated. :)

Yes, I'm hoping that's exactly what I'll be saying:) I want to get back into my old jeans and then into even smaller ones than before. That would be fantastic!!!!
I know i'll be taking a lot more of those "Beginning of my new life" steps.

For now I know I won't be able to keep up with him, but I hope I'll catch up eventually. haha I remember gasping for air in gym when we were out on the track, too. Felt so proud after a few weeks when I got a fourth of a mile down to 1 min 25 sec. That was a first for me.

But, anyhow, I plan on destroying these obstacles. I really have to do this. For me.

Thank you so much for reading my post. You keep me super motivated. :)

Yes, last week I spent an hour on an exercise bike and managed 15 miles. Then did 2 miles on the elliptical and treadmill...
But going outside...? It DESTROYED me. I was like, seriously? This is terrible.
And the whole running thing... Yeah, my friend tries running and running without stopping. "I run until my body makes me stop. Physically stop. Until my knees are about to give and I'm drenched in sweat." --So Johnathan says. He's up to 3.6 miles now! I was like :O My first goal is going to be running a mile non-stop. Geez.

I'm going to try getting back into a routine. And I'm sure you'll be able to find the motivation to get back to running. :) Running a mile non-stop was excellent! You should be proud! You're a great inspiration and I'm aiming to do what you've accomplished. Let me know how things are going. I'd like to hear from you soon!

I'll post again tomorrow to let you know how my official day went:)

Thank you so much!

I'm glad you did good today:) you're a great inspiration...

As for me, well, today was a terrible start...
Had my first weigh-in (starting weight)... at 168.6 lbs.
Woke up and walked into the kitchen to see what all the noise was... mom had made muffins, my favorite kind.
I had cereal for breakfast and later broke down to temptation and had some muffins.
Had to run errands with my mother today so I didn't get to hit the gym, but spent hours walking around numerous stores, if that counts.
Had pizza casserole for dinner, oh my.
Then got to walk my dogs for a half hour.
Terrible mood after getting into a huge argument with the brother and have the urge to paint again....

I don't know... Hopefully tomorrow is a better day.

Thanks for checking up!

You'll have those days. Trust me I can witness to that. The important thing is to not let one day ruin the days after. You don't want that one day to lead to another that leads you to another syndrome. Just blow it off and start strong tomorrow.

As for your walking around the different stores. Exercise is exercise, walking is just as good and anything. Even better than not doing anything at all.

Good luck and keep it up....

I'll try to keep that in mind....
Next couple of days aren't going to be too fun...weightloss wise. Taking our mini-vacation to Louisiana... so lots of fast food and restaurants. I'll just try to swim a lot and walk around... then try super hard when I get home.

I got this... ;)

haha Thank you:)

Hiya,

Don't beat yourself up. Although you've given into temptation - we all do. Last week I ate this gorgeous homemade fairy cake and had a bar of chocolate and some crisps etc. You cannot deny yourself everything. If you continously have this constant fight with yourself that you cannot have this and cannot have that then you will give in and fail and give up. This is the kind of thing that happened to me previous times I've tried to diet and then given up. So long as your main meals are healthy and balanced you can have a wee treat during the day, all you have to do is make sure you get yourself moving and all that walking you've been doing is great and of course your running. Apart from the fairy cake which was high in calories, when I craved chocolate instead of grabbing a mars bar or a snicker etc etc I popped into boots and bought a 99cal chocolate bar which is yummy and a 99cal bag of crisps. If you do crave and need something to satisfy your sweet tooth just choose wisely and if you stick to healthy balanced main meals you will have enough calories in your daily allowance to have a treat.

I really do hope you enjoy your mini break I'll hear how it went when you get back xx

Mmmmm... cake sounds great. lol But not after these past few days. I ate enough to last for the next week. Casino buffets... so good, yet so bad.
Not looking forward to weighing in on Monday.
Wouldn't have been so bad if I could have gotten into their fitness room, but nobody under 18 allowed... So lame.

So after our little family trip to Louisiana I came back a pound heavier, but I've dropped back down to what I was previously.

This week has been a tad lazy.
However, the other day I was at a friend's house and we decided to go swimming. This included a fun water gun fight and noodle wars:)

Then went out to the pool for about 2 or 3 days the next day with the girls:)

Warped Tour this Saturday so I'll be out all day walking around listening to all the different bands. I can't wait! :)

Oh, hopefully I'll also have some time tomorrow to go down to the storage unit and pull out my old bike. I plan on fixing it up so I can finally start riding it again. I've missed it so much. lol
