The scale is stuck...trying to lose the last 13 pounds, doing cardio 5-6 times a week.

I'm trying to lose the last 13 pounds to hit my goal weight. I've watched my body transform this past year since I started working out and it has been great, but I'm frustrated now because I want to hit that goal weight I had set for myself. I don't know why the scale is staying the same even though I'm doing cardio 5-6 times a week. Any tips?

Hey and welcome to the forum!

Just a question... Do you NEED to lose that last 13 pounds or are you just aiming for it because way back when, you decided on a certain number? When you get really close to your goals, it's really important to evaluate whether or not it's necessary to get to the exact number you were shooting for. Many people focus too much on a specific number, when they could be out there enjoying their fabulous new body and fitness status instead of stressing out about it! I'm not saying that it's a good idea to 'settle' before reaching your goals, but when it comes to weight, it's more about how you feel, look, and your overall health status that's important... There is no specific weight that a person should weigh.

Hi and thanks for the welcome. I completely understand what you are saying and I would be happy with the weight that I am at now, but I have these ridiculously looking saddle bags, exaggerated saddle bags at that. They throw the whole look of my new body off. I was hoping that as I was losing weight and my arms, legs, abs and even my glutes were getting toned, that they would go away, but they havent. Its quite frustrating because I've worked very hard this past year. I have never been in shape before, not in my teens or my 20s, now at 36 I'm in the best shape of my life and I feel great. Its just these darn saddle bags that are bothering me. Can you recommend maybe some exercises that would target that area better than what I have already been doing?

Ok fair enough :)

I know you won't want to hear this, but you cannot directly target those saddlebags. It's going to be a combination of a healthy, clean diet and keeping up with your exercise program. It's very similar to people who want their abs to be showing... they do hundreds of reps of ab exercises for months, and still, nothing shows. This is because they need to reduce their overall body fat.

Keep the junk out of your diet - especially processed foods - and try to keep the saturated fats and salt to a minimum. Eat lots of veggies and fruit, whole grains, and lean meats - try to get some of your protein from plant sources, not just from meat, cheese, and eggs which contain cholesterol and saturated fats.

Definitely keep doing cardio. When you do cardio, is it at a constant intensity or are you varying the intensity at all?

Also, are you currently doing any weight training?

My diet is terrible, I should of mentioned that before. I'm eating less, but what I eat is most of the time, not good for me. I figure if I'm working out then I can eat those french fries, as long as I skip the burger. So I'm "snacking" through out the day because I tell myself that if I just "snack" rather than eat a big meal, then its better because I'm eating less, but my snacks are usually...tortilla chips, crackers, chocolate, a bagel. Every once and while I'll have fruit or a salad but Its always with crackers. Its always after a workout, I say to myself," you just exercised, you deserve that piece of cake, lol.

I'm doing strength training along with cardio, where youre using your own body weight?

I also have 2 grande regular coffees from starbucks a day, probably not good either, sometimes I substitute a "snack" for just a coffee at Starbucks:(

try changing your routine - since muscles have memory and can adjust to the workouts you do and their intensity too. What I suggest is you use interval training or a circuit style bast a la Jillian Micheal's 30 day shred. You can also incorporate vibration training into your daily routine, since this can really help to tone your body up and boost your metabolism. Here's a tip - replace your daily tea or coffee with green tea instead to boost metabolism further.

its definitely your diet. garbage in = garbage out.

Da Vinci didn't make masterpieces out of crap, and neither can we.

Yeah, I read somewhere else about interval training and I've already started that. Whats "vibration training"? I could probably google it and find out...
