Sport The pH Factor

Sport Fitness
I've heard about this idea that we should strive to keep our bodies in slightly alkaline state. They say having an acidic system brings on a whole host of health problems.

Does anyone have any good info on this? Is there anything to it, or is it a bunch of nonsense?

well, yeah, being acidic isn't good for you, but neither is being too much in the opposite direction. I don't know exactly where the body wants to be, but I bet it's somewhere around neutral.

The body does do a good job of maintaining optimal pH, but I suppose if you're constantly eating acidic food and your body needs to alkalyze itself all the time then that could put a strain on some systems. But that's for Mreik to decide if he ever gets here :p

I heard guy go as far as to say it's impossible to get cancer if you're alkaline.

...People will say anything in the health and fitness industry so I just wanted to see some info.

I just got some of my shake mix delivered and there was a flier for this stuff:

It's not the first time I've heard of this idea...but I've never seen it discussed here

Well, there are easy ways to get more alkaline things into your system, like you could eat more vegetables, or you could eat some sort of bicarbonate, like sodium bicarbonate, but that would also increase your sodium levels, which is not necessarily a good thing. I just don't know if I would spend 30 bucks on something like this.

I'm gonna try to search around for reasons why acidic food can damage your body, and if that damage only occurs when the buffering systems are overrun, or if damage can result from the body having to buffer too intensely.

Yeah, I usually hear people talking about what foods will change your levels. Maybe I'll pee on one of my hot tub test strips and see where I stand LOL

You should try Greens + It is all natural, a powder or pill if you prefer and it will balance you to where you are suppoused to be about a 7.5 on the PH Scale which ranges from 0 - 14. You should ideally be slightly more alkaline. It worked for me:) Feel great now. They sell it in all health food stores and some pharmacies. Good Luck!

Vegegreens supplement rocks for this. Just have lots of vegies in your diet. Fruit is less acidic than grains, so it's always better to eat an apple than a slice of bread.
Don't be afraid to have a couple tums after each meal (calcium carbonate) The calcium is good for your bones and your CNS, and carbonate is your bodies prime choice for an alkaline buffer. Plus if you are someone who drinks coffee, the tums will be welcomed in your stomach, as caffeine causes an increase in HCL production in your stomach.

I can't comment much on the acidity issue, but I've heard from many sources it's nothing but bad. Increased risk of cancer, autoimmune disease, and poorer overall bodily function. The western diet of grains, sugars, and grain fed beef causes most people to live in a state of chronic acidity.
