The mind is the enemy

& I feel the same & I AM in the Southern Hemisphere. Middle of the night I'm wide awake, evenings & mornings I want to sleep. It must be a seasonal change thing! zzzz xoC

Tonight will be my first commute home fully in the dark :( But the temp is great and I went on a nice long walk when the sun was shining. I'm at almost exactly 10,000 steps but I'll get another 1,500 or 2,000 in with my commute, I think. I'm not sure if I've mentioned but the step goal on my activity tracker changes daily depending on how active I am. Today my goal was 9026 but tomorrow it'll jump up a couple hundred. It's neat, I like that it's constantly pushing me to do more.

O, that´s interesting, does that mean it expects less of you when you´ve been inactive for a while? Or does it just generally try to get you to a certain amount?

LaMa, yeah, it expects less of you when you get lazy, haha. Without training for any races my goal got down to almost 7,000 recently. I'm not great about checking in to see how many steps I've actually been doing recently, but if my goal is low it's instantly clear that I've been slacking.

You can override this feature, of course, and set your own goal, but I like it.

Couldn't sleep again last night. The consequences of this are:

1) Emotional eating. I had a small bowl of Cheez-Its and eight Chips Ahoy cookies after 11 pm because I was frustrated that I was awake.
2) Didn't go to the gym because I wanted the extra ninety minutes of sleep.
3) I'll be exhausted today and work is painfully slow at the moment so there's little to distract me from being tired.

On the plus side, I stumbled upon a documentary called How To Dance in Ohio which is about a group of people on the autism spectrum preparing for a big spring formal dance. It followed them for twelve weeks and I cried at the end and immediately began rethinking my chosen career path.

Now I need to go watch that documentary... Sleep deprivation is a bitch but you´ll get into the new rhythm soon so just try and minimize the damage for the next couple of days without fighting it too much. Maybe you can use those slow workdays to walk everywhere in between doing whatever it is you do all day?

I've been having trouble for the past couple of weeks so it's more than just the time change. I'm going to hit up the gym tonight because that seemed to work last week. I've been falling asleep on the couch, so I know I'm tired, I just can't get back to sleep once I go to bed. Which I know means that I should just get into bed earlier.... New goal, stop going to sleep on the couch!

LaMa, I just used you as motivation to get outside for a random mid-day walk. Except I ended up at a store where I bought a bag of discounted candy (peanut butter cups in the shape of pumpkins). Oops.

I have been having trouble sleeping lately & I have been falling asleep in my comfy recliner. It may be worth sitting in an uncomfortable chair for a few evenings just to break the pattern! Sleep deprivation sucks!

I love that quote, Stacy!

Cate, I was sorta thinking the same thing. We just have one big couch but I do keep a yoga mat in the living room.... I may have to sit on that in the evenings until I break the habit of sleeping in front of the tv. Bonus - I'll probably do more stretching if I'm already on the floor! I'll report back tomorrow on that :)

Four miles on the treadmill Tuesday night = a full, easy night of sleep entirely in bed. I knew it would work! Got a few incline pushups and squats in, as well.

I am absolutely in love with the workouts I created for the treadmill. I'm a spreadsheet nerd so I have a little schedule that I put together. The time goes by FAST. My plan is to improve ever so slightly after each successful workout. Make one hill slightly harder, or one sprint slightly faster. Baby steps so I don't get hurt or burnt out. I'm attaching here what I did last night.

Woohooo! Yay for decent sleep and fun workouts  I´m sure things will be easier all around now.

Alright, it's Friday so let's see how I did on my mini-goals.

Food: No booze! None whatsoever. I can think of a million food goals but this is what I'm going with. Did not meet this goal. Stayed strong Monday and Tuesday, but had two glasses of wine on Wednesday and one glass on Thursday.
Exercise: Two runs (likely Tuesday and Thursday). One hill workout, and one speed workout. Success! Hills on Tuesday night, sprints on Thursday morning.
Other: Out of bed by 6 am on the days I don't run. The quiet mornings are my favorite but I rarely take advantage of them. 2 for 3 on this one. Tuesday I hadn't slept much the night before so I opted to sleep in. Today I got up at 6:05, which I am counting as a win.

Could have been better, could have been worse! What should my goals be for the weekend?

Food: No sneaky eating.
Exercise: One run + sixty minutes of yoga.
Other: Clean the floor in the room I do yoga in. Preferably before I do my sixty minutes of yoga.

Wohooo! I say the grand total is a win so far. Also: yay for clear, practical goals. "Preferably before I do my sixty minutes of yoga" made me chuckle :p

I like your goals. I really need to make it a goal to be out of bed by 0600 also, I'm so lazy though that even if I go to bed at 10pm I could still sleep till noon, lol!

Well done on what looks like a successful week. I am so not a morning person & even if I am wide awake I stay in bed until after 7am. I become human after half a pot of espresso. You made me laughtoo re the cleaning the floor, preferably before yoga! :D xoC
