The issue of mindset.

How does someone go about changing their mindset?

I'm tired of hearing the question of "Why don't you just lose the weight?" And having no answer for them.

I think changing your mindset is the hardest part about the whole process. In the end you have have a reason to change your mind and YOU have to want it. If people are telling you to just lose the weight then your reasons aren't good enough. Find set a goal for yourself and take baby steps. The loosing the weight will end up being the easy part...battling with your mind is a whole nother ball game.

well.... if you honestly don't WANT to lose weight then I wouldn't even bother trying... it won't work...

however, getting your mind made up should be the easiest part - just decide you want to look better, feel better and overall BE better (i know - bad english!)

The not so easy part - watching what you eat & exercising.

If you aren't ready - then re-evaluate yourself, how you feel, and your health level perhaps that'll give you a little kick in the pants

I'm pretty healthy, I mean besides being fat :) but I'm not sick or anything - I'm nowhere near diabetes or any fat-related diseases/illnesses. I have low cholesterol... I'm just effin lazzzzzy.

I recently decided that I want to lose weight because I'm tired of being disgusting!!!!!!! I'm tired of being and looking and feeling lazy - like all I want to do in my spare time is eat and sleep. I want to do things! I want to be able to run up a hill without feeling like I'm gonna keel over dead! I'm tired of having to opt for baggy pants cause my fucking legs are huge and disgusting!!! I'm tired of being self conscious when I walk into a room. I'm tired of not going swimming because I feel like a naked whale.

So- that's my motivation to get my shit started lol. Sorry I'm so chatty....

LOL that is some funny ass motivation lol. On a serious level i agree completely. It's one onf those, sick and tire of being sick and tired kind of things. the most important thing IMO (ive said it a million times and ill say it a million more) is realizing its about changing for life not just dropping the pounds and then your set. Start off small. try to find something you truley enjoy. Most importantly stick it out! make for damn sure you pull you butt off the couch and get it done EVERY TIME. one excuse leads to another till one day you've given up completely. Soon you'll find yourself enjoying your long walks and those gruling workout will actually turn into your release and a source of stress relief. hard to believe at first but oh so true.

here are some posts I've made in the past regarding the subject:
I've read them, and read the stickies. And to be honest, none of them seem to hit home with me. That is why I posted this thread, looking for something new, something that might actually resonate with me.

Well, one small bit sounded about right.

If you've been told or if you've thought your entire life that you're fat and will always be fat... guess what? Without mentally, consciously intervening... your mind is programmed to keep you fat. Simple as that.
I've tried to explain that to people that don't get it. The way I look at it is:

If you are told something long enough, you begin to believe it. If you believe it long enough, you become it.

I guess the path I am looking for is the one that will lead my away from that, and the more I read online the less those impersonal words help.

there's a thread in on topic called fear of thin...

read it - there is an exercise in the thread that might give you some insight.

it's listing the reasons why you want to stay fat...
